But Pastor Scott, how would you know I was a Honda if I didn't have a Honda Badge? How could you possibly tell?

Well I can't speak for Pastor Markle. But as for me, I can look at your profile picture and tell that that is not a Honda.

But then I could just say I was whatever I wanted without any burden of having to prove it....

And no one could deny my claim.

But then, how you would ever know who or what someone was?

And what if someone was lying about what they were? how would you know, and how would you warn others that they were not what they said they were?

That is correct.  Within present-day society, no one should attempt to deny your claim; for your feelings about yourself are indeed your reality for yourself.  Thus the only "correct" way for anyone to determine what another individual is, is to ask that individual what that individual "feels" that individual is.  And for anyone to make judgments about what an individual is apart from asking is to engage in prejudicial profiling.

As far as someone lying about what he or she is -- Well we need to understand that humans are naturally good at heart, and that they only engage in falsehood because circumstances force them into a corner wherein they feel that falsehood is the only way out.  Therefore, if we would just quit being so judgmental with our prejudicial profiling, then people would not "feel" that they are in a corner from which they need falsehood to escape; and then people would simply quit engaging in falsehood, right?

Actually, answering this question has a different answer depending upon our context --

1.  If we are approaching the question from a societal context, then whatever you "feel" at any given moment is the correct answer, such that I must ask you what you "feel" in order to discern the answer.

2.  If we are approaching the question from a scientific context, then specific principles of observation and standards of classification must be employed in order to discern the answer.

3.  If we are approaching the question from a philosophical context, then only the understanding of the "expert" philosophers can provide us an answer; and they have not yet come to any definite conclusions, so we are still in waiting.

4.  If we are approaching the question from the absolute truth (a "bad" word in today's society) of God's Holy Word, then everything changes in how we approach your question.

Well, Brother Middlebrooks, the profile picture might just reveal that he is in the "wrong" body -- A Honda in truth, but in the wrong body.

Ahhh, one more thought --

The really confusing part of this is when the "societal context" and the "scientific context" try somehow to merge in consensus, since the standards for truth in each of these contexts is so different from each other.

➁But if God created you as a Ford, than you will be dead much faster.

BLASPHEMY!

I drive a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2. It has almost 300,000 miles on it. Needs a valve job, but I don't want to spend the money on it. It runs a little rough and takes skill to keep it running until the engine warms up...however...the thing just refuses to die. Every time I get in it to go to work each day, I wonder if it will be the last hoorah...but the thing just keeps going.

Ford...

F - friend

O - of

R - real

D - drivers

Now watch it finally break down today. LOL!

Bro. Scott, I think it a shame that we do not have a "tongue-in-cheek" emoticon for your posts this morning.  :10_wink:

Indeed, Brother Jim,

Those who know me (either in personal reality or through the forum) will recognize that I myself DO NOT AT ALL hold to any of this "societal viewpoint of vanity."  Rather, I myself hold that God's Holy Word is ABSOLUTE TRUTH IN ALL ("true and righteous altogether"), and that we must understand it through PRECISE grammatical, contextual, and Biblical examination.  As such, I myself hold to a specific standard for truth by which we can examine all things (that is -- all thoughts, all feelings, all ideas, all philosophies, all decisions, all behavior, etc.).

Like I said.......

➃But the Bible says, that if we strive to please God by honoring Him and being the best  Ford we can be, than He could see to it, that we last longer than expected.

It appears that I told a fib about my car...when I typed what I did, I knew something didn't seem right. I said that it had almost 200,000 miles on it. That was wrong...it has almost 300,000 miles on it. I edited the previous post to reflect the correct mileage.

...and no, it didn't break down on my way to work!   :478_blue_car:

Otherwise just claiming you're a car or a pair of shoes is a mental condition and should consider seeing a psychiatrist.

Not so long ago it was declared a mental condition and properly so.  But, they need Jesus and not a self-help psychiatrist to blame their woes on their father or the school yard bullies.

Well, no one has yet actually disproved that I am a car, and many have simply decided to accept it without question.

I can certainly prove that Dave is not a car, for I identify myself as Dave and as identifying myself such, I do not identify as a car. argument over and won.

I can certainly prove that you, Jordan, are not me.

You can call yourself DaveW, and you may indeed be a DaveW, but you are not me.

And it is a reasonably easy thing to do.

I need only ask you what you eye colour is, what your hair colour is, what you height, weight, and various other of your attributes are.

You may have some or even possibly many attributes similar to me, but you will not have ALL the same attributes as me, and you are therefore not me.

Regardless of what you call yourself.

And the way to tell the truth of the matter is by checking various attributes that are unique to me. If you do not have them, then you are not me.

Despite what you may claim.

Ok DaveW.

You are definitely not a car because cars do not and cannot, of their own free will, post on this site.

It is not in the nature of an object, with no such function of operation, to communicate with humans who do have such a nature.

Cars, no matter the brand, do not of themselves type, nor care to state that they are a car. Nor do cars know they are a better brand than anyother car.

Hence, being out of the nature of a car, and lacking the intelligence of a car, you prove from your own words here, that you are not a car.

Plus, unlike a car, you never seem to run out of gas!

And etc., and etc., and....
