I have a group of soldiers from Any Soldier that I have "adopted." I send them cards, letters, and care packages from time to time to help show them my support. They are a real humble bunch though and usually say anything is appreciated. Do any of you who personally know soldiers know what is best to send in care packages? They do recommend snacks, personal hygiene, and fun items, but that is still pretty vague. Also since it is so hot out there I'm afraid of what might melt along the way. Anyone have any tips on what soldiers you know wanted in their care packages?? :puzzled:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090312/ap_ ... _tennessee The man who killed two people and injured six when he attacked this group of assembled people went on trial yesterday. I don?t condone the actions of the shooter. I don?t believe God had anything to do with his mission, to the contrary, I believe godlessness was behind the actions of this individual. I wanted to understand if the shooter, had correctly identified them as a ?cult.? So, I went to their web site and found the following. From their pastor: http://www.tvuuc.org/welcome.html Religious education: http://www.tvuuc.org/education/index.html Youth Religious Education Program: http://www.tvuuc.org…

I May Run for President of Texas by Chuck Norris 03/10/2009 On Glenn Beck's radio show last week, I quipped, in response to our wayward federal government, "I may run for president of Texas." That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not I, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star State, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state. From the East Coast to the "Left Coast," America seems to be moving farther and farther from its Founders' vision and government. George Washington advised, "The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is, in extending our commercial relations,…

Calling all ladies and men, I did not realize that March is ladies month. With many articles out there extolling various achievements of women I thought I would ask who from among the board members would you consider to be the most influential women not only in our time but in any time frame. They could be infamous, a believer, a scientist, an athlete or what ever. If you would be so kind as to list your choices and your reasons for placing your choices in this list I am sure we would enjoy both reading and discussing them at large. When I think of influence that woman have had in the world at large there is one that to me stands head and shoulders above the res…

We have the topic about the couple whose having their 18th child. So do you think about this. A family has many children, but can't afford to feed them and clothe them, so the government pays the way for their children. Do you think that is proper? One thing that got me about the Mormons who have many wife's and lots of children, many of them get government assistance to care for their large family that they cannot afford to take care of.

Here's a great book you can read online by Sir Robert Anderson (author of The Coming Prince). It's pretty heavy reading compared to today's news print style of writing and a bit outdated in some parts but he throws a lot of light on probably the one thing that mankind questions about God more than any other. The Silence of God. Here's the link: http://www.newble.co.uk/anderson/silence/preface.html

I recently finished the book for the second time in a 4 or 5 month period and my wife has just finished it as well. I must say that it is of excellent quality and majors on how "God shapes us through the events of our lives". The illustrations are rich and powerful, his understanding of scripture is solid but the most important part of the book is his ability to enable the reader to focus on the events of their life as having been needed for Christ to make you who you are. If you have struggled with why something has happened to you in your Christian walk this boook could very well be a great encouragement to you. http://search.half.ebay.com/grand-weaver_W0QQmZbook…

I've only just found out that Seth has left the forum--how tragic! I'll certainly miss his regular postings and I hope he'll return. Here's a few others I miss: deafnva77 a.k.a Psalm18_28 a.k.a Angie hasn't posted since the 05th Feb. Where is she??? MilkManDan last posted on 19th Aug 2008. A very enthusiastic chap--wonder if he still lurks. Qwerty Guy flies in now and then but is too busy most of the time, so he told me. GrannyGumbo used to post on another forum I was on but hasn't posted here since 2004. Special mention to U4tarheel, who does still post on here, but whom I haven't spoken to for years. A neighbor of ours had 2 nephews on a bus in Oklahoma that was hit by an 18 wheeler, one is in critical condition, the other hurt quite bad. I forget just how many major injuries there were in this wreck. The one that was badly injured was thrown out of a window of the bus. She is on her way to Dallas to be with her sister, at least one of the nephews has been transported to Dallas.

We watched this in seminary. It's not for everyone, because someone weak in their faith could take it the wrong way. It's titled "Marjoe" and it's about a guy who was a traveling evangelist from the age of 4. When he was in his 20's he decided to come clean and admit that he didn't even believe in God. He had a film crew follow him around for his last round of crusades. It's very enlightening in regards to the methods people use to con weak christians. He was part of the holiness movement and did the whole healing/slayed-in-the-spirit stuff. The first part is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKln1sQXvmo, and you can find the other parts from there. We've been watchin…

Pardon me while I wax philosophical, but over the years I've experienced much joy, pain, tragedy, love and blessings. I've come to realize that there are many times when less is more! Do you mind sharing some areas where you believe "less is more?" Thank you.

Many of us question the news media and government on crime statistics, volume, type. I am one of those people. If you don?t feel comfortable providing city, county, state, and for some country then, as close as possible (South East China, Western Canada, North Africa, or South Central U.S.). If you can provide factual examples of crime indications and links to articles thanks in advance. Community populations. I just read my 6 and 4 year old a children's version of Pilgrim's Progress. They loved it. They didn't get all the lessons to be taught. I'm going to leave it for a few months and then read it again more slowly discussing things as we go. I've never read the adult version but I may now. Does anyone know any other good books to read to this age group? I've bought some missionary stories for young children but the kids have not found them interesting. I think they are too basic.

GOP tussles over leadership, party's future path NEW YORK ? Rush Limbaugh has been Topic A in the political world, with Republicans debating his influence on their party and Democrats trying to elevate the conservative radio host to the GOP's de facto spokesman. The skirmish has cast a bright light on the GOP and its search for leadership in the Obama era. But the personality-driven diversion has deflected attention from the deeper problems the party faces. Simply put, the public isn't buying what Republicans are selling right now. An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll this past week put Republican popularity at near historic lows. Just 26 percent in the survey viewed t…

Afghanistan South by Patrick J. Buchanan 03/06/2009 Heeding the advice of Gen. David Petraeus, Barack Obama has committed 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan and will keep 50,000 in Iraq after U.S. combat operations end in August 2010. But are U.S. vital interests more threatened by what happens in Anbar or Helmand than in the war raging along our southern border? Prediction: After all U.S. troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and Korea have come home, there will be a U.S. army on the Mexican border. For this is where the fate of our republic will be decided, as the fate of Europe will be decided by the millions streaming north from the Maghreb and Middle East, sub-Sa…

Is anyone giving up anything for the season of Lent? My wife and I have decided to completely turn off our television for the next 40 days to focus on God. For the most part, I think I can do it, but there is one show that I love that is difficult to give up for 40 days.
