Dear Praying Friends,

On Tuesday, my 8-month-old granddaughter was rushed to the emergency room after her mother (my middle daughter) couldn't wake her from her afternoon nap. The baby was still breathing but she wouldn't open her eyes. The local hospital had her life-flighted to a major hospital two hours away that had a pediatric ICU.

Several tests (CAT scan, blood gas, MRI) proved normal, yet the baby was still having trouble staying awake. Finally, late last night, a urine toxicology test result came in, showing opiate exposure.

Yes, opiate exposure. Her other grandfather has a prescription for 30mg of morphine for a medical condition he has. He also takes several other prescriptions for the same condition.

The thought is that he inadvertantly dropped the pill on the floor without realizing it. Well, our granddaughter found it and like all good rug crawlers, put it in her mouth. Imagine what a 30mg adult dose of morphine can do to a 13-lb. little girl. God OBviously held her close to His bosom during this ordeal.

Doctors are confident she'll fully recover, even though there's some fluid around her lungs. That's being treated and she's improving. She'll prOBably be released on Thursday.

The other grandfather, also a IFSB preacher, is devastated. He came really close to killing my/his granddaughter. OBviously, he's changing his routine to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I didn't inform y'all earlier because I spent most of my time making travel arrangements for my wife and making phone calls. Now that the dust is settling, I can fill you in.

We're still asking for prayer, because social services has been called in. It's a state law that hospitals must report anything suspicious involving children. Even though everyone in the hospital knows it was an accident, we're praying that social services sees it the same way. We've all heard horror stories about children's services.

Please say a quick prayer thanking the Lord for protecting this little girl, and pray that sanity will prevail in the state's investigation.

Mitch

I will certainly pray for you all. I'm sure the investigation will see the loving care your grand daughter gets and that this was a once in a million happening. Things will be fine.

Mitch, I'm praying. I can't even imagine what I would feel like if this was me. Hopefully everything from your granddaughters health to the social services visit goes well.

Mitch, We are praying for your family and expecially for your Grandbabie's speedy recovery. Our daughter is 8 months and around the 13 pound mark. We can't imagine the scare and the different emotions you all must have had/are dealing with. We pray that the dhs situation will be resolved quickly and they will realize it was just a accident. I Thank the Lord for his goodness and mercie's He shares with us, and for watching over us and our loved ones daily. We are praying for you all!!

Mitch, Sorry y'all have to go though this, accidents do happen, hopefully Social Services will be people with horse sense and figure this out quickly and will not add to the prOBlems.

Prayers!

praying, this is why they make childproof caps. children will get into everything.

more likely the social service will educate parents and whoever responsible on preventing something like this happening again. If the house look very unsafe, they will have someone to keep the child until everything is straightened up (childproofed). Because I guess in their opinion, if a person can't watch the child all the time, then they better childproof their home instead.

I believe Mitch said the grandfather inadvertently dropped the pill on the floor without realizing it, not because the youngster got the bottle of pills and opened them.

I know a couple of times I've dropped a small blood pressure pill on the floor without realizing it.

I was saying because a child get into everything and put anything in their mouth is the reason why they invented childproof caps. what I mean is, I understand because these things happen. it happen so often that they had to invent childproof caps. I wasn't trying to be mean about it or anything.

But from a social service point of view, they don't know the real story so they will do what they can do for the child. Ask the parents to childproof the house. My older sister was a social service for a short while.
