Today, I was listening to a Bible-teaching podcast when the speaker referenced a book written in 1729 by William Law entitled A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life. I was interested in reading it so I Googled it and, to my surprise, found that Google has been digitizing public domain books. I was able to read the book on-line and download a free PDF copy. :thumb I haven't fully explored this, but I wanted to pass along the information to all of you who like to read as much as I do. There are a lot of great literary works by Christians of yesteryear out there and my hope is that they have been or will be made more widely available through Google Books.

we were at church when a tornado hit it. we are home now, w/ another tornado on its way. I got word we had some boys at this camp. Don't know if any of ours are killed. some friends' houses have been damaged/destroyed. there are people still trapped at the church b/c they didn't have the "all clear" in the direction they were headed. we hydroplaned and jumped a curb, but we are fine. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,365782,00.html

Since it's June already and my husband and I are going to be counselors at camp next week, it gave me a topic idea. :ideas: What are some of your favorite memories from camp (if you ever had the opportunity to go)??? Who was the best camp meeting preacher? What decisions did you make at camp that changed your life? Where was the camp located? What was it like? Things like that... :cool I'll start off.... The only time I've ever been to camp was when I was 12. It was some place outside of Salem, Oregon. I don't remember the name or the preacher, but he preached a really good message about Samson and Delilah. The message was about choices that you can mak…

In my church the majority of teens have gone over to the world, and no one seems to care neither do they say anything to them. These teens have been in church all their lives and wouldn't have been so corrupted had it not been for the couple parents who let their teens into the world and do whatever they want and they of course spread it to the others. There are currently about 2 or 3 teens who have any heart for God the other ones blindly serve a religion rather than having a relationship. It's sad and i've been saddened by it many a time and whats even sadder is that the parents are so apathetic about it. I've heard this is common and I don't get it, the world is appeal…

I found this aritcle on wikipedia and it reminded me of a previous thread in which some people were discussing the spiritual merits of some of our early presidents. I think it is interesting to find that many of our founding fathers and presidents were unabashedly not what most on this board would call christians. For a country that is so often stated to be found upon christianity, it sure is interesting to see how those founders defined christianity. I for one am shocked. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U. ... filiations

Has anyone here ever gone to, or currently go to, a mega church? My husband took a new job out in Cali and we will be moving out there at the end of June from New England. The only IFB church in the area is HUGE! I mean HUGE! Thousands of people go there, they televise everything, have their own school, have their own bus system... The website even said they have security guards and escorts to direct the massive parking lots so people don't get lost! :puzzled: I'm really nervous about going there and don't know what to expect. The largest church I've ever been to had 200 people, so this one will be a huge change. Unfortunately the few people I know in person w…

So I know we've discussed guns plenty of times here, but a search on the word gun yields no threads. Has BroMatt censored us? Seriously though, I was looking for an old thread that had some information on it... perhaps it was archived... if so, do you actually delete them for good?

Have you ever stopped to think what a blessing prayer meeting is? We have just come home from ours, and even though there was only a couple of us there; I KNOW we are going to see God answer prayer! Some of the sweetest moments I have experienced in church have been during prayer meeting. How awesome to come together before the Living God and to comune with Him! What a wonderful privilege! What a mighty and magnificent God we serve! :amen:

Now that it seems we know it will be Obama or McCain, at this point who do you really think will win. We all understand that many things can happen between now and election. It would not surprise me the least bit if Obama wins. I just don't think as of this time that McCain can pull it off.

Do you know anyone who does not drive? In my younger days, during the 50 and 60's, I use to know several women who had never driven a car. I remember neighbors from the 50's who did not even own a car, of course they had horses or mules and a wagon. I had one classmate, I graduated in 65, he did not get his drivers license until in the mid 80's.

What a game last night!!!!!!!!!!! Did anyone stay up and watch it? It went to triple OT and didn't end until 12:50 AM ET. I think it might have been one of the greatest games ever. Fleury made so many great clutch saves it was unbelievable. Malkin even looked like he remembered how to play toward the end last night. Now, we get to come home to win game 6 and tie the series. LET'S GO PENS

I am attempting to make a 9-patch quilted bedspread. I have all the 9-patch blocks made and I now need to make the strips that go between each block. In other words, there will be a strip of a neutral color all around each block to separate each block from each other. The blocks will be in rows going from the head to the foot. Does anyone have any tips or tricks they want to share? I have never done this before and could use some info. Thanks!!! CJP56

Which one is your fave? Overall, my fave is Gold Miner. 8 ball champion is fun too. Hexxagon was challenging but those white guys always annoyed me; they acted like they had an attitude. Oh well. I figured out how to get a perfect score so... :Bleh

E Bay or Craigslist? I told the wife that I was going to E Bay a bunch of junk. She said that it was her understanding that E Bay is getting to expensive to list and sell goods. Your vote and/or opinion is appreciated!

Do you think debates about Bible versions between believers does the least bit of good for those who have not been saved? Does defending the KJ Bible at all cost and at all times bring glory to God? Bible version debates & discussion, what's your opinion, where and when should we debate & or discuss this?

Are there any NHL fans here? The Pens dominated the Sens last night. Looks like they're one of the favorites for the Cup this year. Hopefully they do better than last season (I think they already have). Let's go Pens!!
