There was a crooked man and he walked a crooked mile,
He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile.
He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse.
And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

The origins and lyrics of the Nursery rhyme in British history:

The content and lyrics of this nursery rhyme have a basis in history. The origins of this nursery rhyme originating from the English Stuart history of King Charles 1. The crooked man is reputed to be General Sir Alexander Leslie of Scotland. The General is one of those who signed the Covenant securing religious and political freedom for Scotland. The 'crooked stile' being the border between England and Scotland. 'They all lived together in a little crooked house' refers to the fact that the
English and Scots had come to an agreement. The lyrics reflect the times of old England with reference to the animosity between the English and the Scots. The word crooked is pronounced as 'crookED' the emphasis being placed upon the 'ED' in the word. This was common in olde England and many references can be found in this type of pronunciation in the works of William Shakespeare.

I love autumn and winter. The summers in Australia can be unbearably hot. :uuhm:
Autumn in Western Australia, is just beautiful! Lovely warmish days and cool evenings! so you can sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( and snuggle! ) Summer is so hot you just want to go and sleep in the refrigerator! Our winters tend to be mild so we can still enjoy many outdoor activities in the lovely cool weather.
I love autumn even though here in central Maryland it doesn't last long until we jump right into winter, but for some time it is cool and crisp. I love the clear nights when you can see alot of stars. I love the trees changing to it is so beautiful.
Right there with ya. I like Spring too. The moderate seasons. After a hot Summer, Fall and Winter are looking very appealing. Besides, I like my Winter clothes better than my Summer clothes. :lol

Autumn and summer, not that I have anything against the other two. Winter can be rough to drive in since I live in a very hilly region, spring gives me allergies every year.

Summer is best if you like the outdoors, autumn is great, but I used to dislike it when I was in school, because that meant summer was over.

But I like all four seasons, the concept.

As a youth and teen and into my twenties I used to chop and split firewood in the midst of winter wearing a t-shirt. My Dad had a wood stove in the garage and I used to help get the firewood ready.

I have some really really bad winter stories, which I won't share. Worked on farms when I was younger... some of the horrible things that the cold did to the livestock...

In the southern hemisphere, our seasons are not as well-defines as the seasons in the northern hemisphere. Basically, we have 2 seasons here, hot and cold. Then you have Melbourne which is called the "3 seasons in 1 day place". Seriously, it was hot yesterday, and today... my feet are still cold! (I live about 4 hours from Melbourne.)

I like summer, and ocean breezes, and swimming... though I haven't done that for ages... I'm afraid I'll drown these days! Besides that, I'm a bit of a reptile anyway!

One winter we were caring for a friends livestock; feeding and watering them, and the temperature was 20 below zero. That was bad enough, but then the temperature stayed there and the wind started blowing which made things horrible trying to take care of those critters!

When I think about it, there were some nasty summers also... the snakes, the heat, the thirst, heatstroke, sunburn and blisters... nah, that wasn't fun either--but as a preference, I prefer warm weather. I guess it isn't for any real reason. That is what fixes me asking why on earth other people like the seasons that they like.
