Like I said earlier I am a big fan of Sci-Fi. I agree that some of the stuff is not good at all, and a bunch is just plain weird. I have a hard time finding good new series to read.
I am a big Star Wars fan (except for Episode 1). I have read most of the books and some of those are good and some are terrible. They use a bunch of different authors and therefor the quality and feel vary widely. On the other hand I do not like Star Trek at all. In other series I like Babylon 5 and Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis.
The best book series I have read is David Weber's Honor Harrington series and some of his other books are good too. Right now I am reading Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series and that is really good. There are some other ones, but those are the best.

Wow, you spend a lot of time reading Sci-Fi! Do do any other reading? What other material do you like to read?

Pep, you are one of very few I know of who likes Babylon 5. That is a very unique show and I enjoyed watching it when I got a chance to, which wasn't too often. I do still enjoy watching the old Star Trek show but only certain episodes. I like to watch Deep Space 9 too but haven't seen it for a long time. I have a few Star Trek books that I like to read. My favorite sci-fi books to read are the old Robert Heinlein books for boys. I have over a dozen of those. Heinlein's other books are not good though. I also like a very few of Andre Norton's books. Most of her stuff is too weird for me. I read some of her somewhat weird books before I got saved but don't read them anymore. I prefer straight adventure type sci-fi.
As far as movies go, I like the older Star Wars movies, the old classics like Day the Earth Stood Still, and Robinson Crusoe on Mars, and a few other sci-fi movies. I have them on video or DVD.
I am not real brainy, so I like my sci-fi fairly simple. Hee hee. CJP56.

Babylon 5 :thumb Way back when my wife and I were both working (at the same place even) it so happened that Babylon 5 was on shortly after we got home and we would sit and watch that to wind down after a long day at work. We just happened upon it but we both really liked that show.

A buddy of mine at college has Netflicks and he got all 5 seasons of Babylon 5 and we watched them over the year. Most people thought that we were crazy, but it was a lot of fun. The only Heinlein book I read was "Starship Troopers" which I absolutely love. I refuse to watch the movie, because I know that they take the soul out of that story. I would like to read other books by him. I have a couple of his quotes that I like.

A few of Heinlein's books are: Citizen of the Galaxy, Farmer in the Sky, Have Space Suit Will Travel, The Star Beast, The Rolling Stones, Starman Jones, Tunnel in the Sky, and Red Planet. I won't watch the Starship Troopers movie either. They always ruin the movies by departing from the book story line.
My favorite Andre Norton book is Star Rangers. I may be a senior citizen but I still love sci-fi. Hee hee. CJP56

I like some sci-fi' date=' but not all of it - and definitely not the stuff that gets demonic.[/quote']
:goodpost:
I really like sci-fi, and used to watch a lot of the series (Star Trek - all series, Andromeda, Stargate... anything else you can think of). Stargate SG-1 was a particular favorite, and I would probably have liked Atlantis. I don't watch any science fiction anymore, though, both for the reasons that were named above and the following:

Star Trek
Constantly pushes humanistic and evolutionary viewpoints.
Star Wars
Teaches an impersonal 'Force' that can be controlled for one's own power and turned to good or evil.
Andromeda
Strong religious teachings in Rev Bem's 'Way,' which is sort of the ultimate ecumenical religious mix.
Stargate SG-1 (much as I like it)
Buddhist teachings -- Daniel evolves into a higher level of being, and later is reincarnated as a human.
Historical revision that could lead to confusion about Biblical history -- in the series, the pyramids were
created by aliens and these aliens were the 'gods' of Egypt and Canaan (e.g.: Apophis, Ra, Baal).
Stargate Atlantis
I only watched the pilot of this one, but if I got it right, the enemies in this series feed off human life
force or energy -- always a New Age idea.

Almost all science fiction works on the premise that there is intelligent life on other planets. This philosophy (for it has no scientific evidence to back it up) is unsustainable for Christians. All Creation is under the curse (Rom. 8:22), and Christ came to redeem us from that curse (Gal. 3:13). He is able to do so because He is our Kinsman-Redeemer -- the second Adam (1 Cor. 15:21-22). Any sentient beings on other planets must thus (a) be under death because of Adam's sin and (B) are unable to be redeemed because there is no Redeemer for them. Such a situation would be eminently unjust of our just God.
C. S. Lewis, in the Narnia books, slightly propulgated the idea that, should there be many worlds (read planets), there must be a Savior for each of them. He puts forth that this 'Savior' would be one and the same, although in various manifestations. I think it's in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader that Aslan tells the children that he is present in their world under a different name. Such an idea is blatantly heretical, as it requires the 'Savior', in this case Aslan/Christ, to be sacrificed multiple times -- once for each world. Yet we know that "Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many." (Heb. 9:28) (Heb. 9:24-28; 10:12-14; 1 Pet. 3:18)

I'm not trying to condemn anyone for watching sci-fi -- hey, I'd love to watch it still! But I couldn't let this thread go unchallenged without spelling out some of the heresies taught by these shows.

I believe you misunderstood what I said.

What I was stating, I don't suppose I got that across, maybe I will this time. I believe many who write science fiction get their ideas for science fiction from the Bible, for they feel its science fiction.

I was in no way saying that science fiction was from God, that is something I would never suggest.

I rightly do not understand why any God fearing person would have anything to do with science fiction. That is I think science fiction is a stumbling block for many people and keeps them from accepting Jesus as Savior.

yes, they definitely do seem parallel to the bible. In fact, I think just about every books do. Take Lord of the Rings for example (it is more fantasy than SciFi though). It reminds me so much like the bible but it isn't the bible at all.

Yes, and how many get miss led by junk like Lord of the Rings which many Christians support with their money.

Same thing with most science fiction stuff. I have no use for the junk. I just can't see how it can be pleasing to Christ for one of His brothers or sisters to read, listen, spend money on such junk that is a stumbling block to many.

13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
Romans 14:13 (KJV)

10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Col 1:10 (KJV)

22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1 John 3:22 (KJV)

1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
1 Thess 4:1 (KJV)

4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
1 Thess 2:4 (KJV)

Oh, I remember "V" on tv! I was creeped out by it!

I was little girl and I thought they were peeling their skin off from their face. creepy. Never liked it since.

Hi deafnva77

Try ?V? out again now: The first 3 hours of it are great.

?Firefly? is a another great series, that has no references to evolution, and puts a positive spin on Christianity.
