I taught the family on the scriptures on Sunday. I have been chewing on some verses and want to share some concepts. 2Pe 1:16 ¶ For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 2Pe 1:17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 2Pe 1:18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 2Pe 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light…

Today's New International Version was produced to meet the ever-growing spiritual needs of today's generation of believers—as well as to help nourish the next generation of believers—by offering a Bible that faithfully communicates the timeless truths of God's Word. Like the original NIV was not bad enough.

You’re peacefully laying on the couch with a good book, all bundled up by the fireplace. Peeking over the book you can see out the window that it’s snowing outside in the dark. You just ate your favorite dinner about forty minutes ago, and everyone in the house is in bed for the night. You’re all alone, and you’re as cozy as cozy can get. You lazily bring a cup of hot chocolate to your lips when all of a sudden... **BWWWWWWOOOONNGGGGGG!** Imagine being in such a wonderful situation and then having someone slam one of those old Chinese gongs right behind your head! The sound of the gong pulsates through your body shaking you like a cat at a dog park! Scalding you…

What are your thoughts on the Ryrie Study Bible? I have been using the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible to gain more understanding of God's Word, but am looking for some more tools to do so. In one of the emails from Brother Cloud, he mentioned the Ryrie. Of course, I would be looking for the KJV version of it.

I asked this question in another thread and received one answer before the thread was locked by the author. Just wanting to get a few more answers. "View Postrancher824, on 24 OctOBer 2010 - 09:43 PM, said: Just wondering, since it has been stated that any future temple would be disgusting to God because of Christ having made the supreme sacrifice on calvary, at what time were the christian jews to stop going to the temple to do sacrifices? Was it right after the crucifiction and resurrection, or were they to continue until the destruction in 70 ad?" "Christ was the final sacrifice. No sacrifices were necessary or acceptable after that. In Christ, John "

I’m hearing more and more about people who claim to be “non-dispensational”. From time to time, I can’t help but think that maybe well established truths become stale to some and they have to come up with something new or “out of the box”. Whether or not this is the heart motive of those that claim to be non-dispensational or not, I don’t know, but I’ve personally seen the mess that people get into when they do not apply the command to rightly divide the scriptures. Before we jump into the prOBlems of being non-dispensational, let’s clear up some common misconceptions about dispensationalism: Common Misconceptions about Dispensationalism 1. Dispensationalism Teac…

Can someone give me a good analysis of Ray Comfort's Evidence Bible which is a "Comfortable" King James Version. It doesn't seem to change the meaning like the NKJV does, but it has a lot of the "archaic" words updated. Some will dismiss it right away, some will say that Ray did a good jOB updating, but I want a real in-depth analysis to see how it measures up to the original KJV. So far, I haven't been able to find a good analysis anywhere on the web. I'm not allowed to post in the KJB forum, so I'm posting it here.

What is God' purpose for suffering in the life of the believer? So many believe that suffering in the life of a Christian is Christ punishing the believer. What do you think?

The Gift of Tongues Are Tongues for Today? There is much controversy over this question in the church today. Let’s take a close look at the gift of speaking in tongues. Part l “Sign” Gifts: Certain gifts were given to the early church as signs to the people that something supernatural has happened. They were “attention getters” so that the multitudes would take notice. These “sign gifts” were needed during the inception and building of the church, and were given by Him for that purpose. Most of them are OBviously signs to the people, Jew and Gentile alike, that God was at work in their midst. One of the sign gifts was the gift of miracles (1 Cor. 12:28), an…

Isaiah 45:7 Does God create evil? Is the King James Bible wrong or outdated? There are many out there today on the internet and in the pulpits and seminaries (in fact, most Christians today fall into this category) who do not believe that ANY Bible in ANY language is the complete, inspired and 100% true Holy Bible. Instead, each one becomes his own final authority as he rummages through five or six different and contradictory versions picking out a phrase here or a verse there that he happens to

I have unsuccessfully been able to locate a chronological, Books of the Bible study chart for quite some time. Specifically, what I'm looking for is something that shows the Books of the Bible (particularly the OT) in a visual way in the order (as in the overlaps and such) in which the events of the Bible occurred; not the order in which they were authored. There are many LONG pages of descriptions and such that are written out in paragraph form, but I'm looking for something a little more kid friendly and straight forward......more of a chart type format. Anyone know of where I can find such a thing? I'm hoping for free, but at this point, I'm just hoping to find any…

While it seems that most of the time denominations argue about what method of baptism to use, little attention is paid to the fact that there are actually seven baptisms in the Bible and that only three of them actually involve people getting wet! It’s very important to familiarize yourself with these baptisms, because they play a critical role in rightly dividing the scriptures. If you start applying things from one baptism where it wasn’t intended, you could wind up getting crazy ideas like thinking baptism has something to do with salvation, receiving the Holy Ghost, or some other kind of nonsense. We’ll start chronologically from the first recorded baptism to th…

Election There is much confusion about the doctrine of election here, so I suggest you search these verses out (all that verses that have the words “elect” or “election” in them), and decide for yourself, being, of course, in prayer and submitting to the Spirit of grace. Don't be swayed by the name-calling and OBvious animosity on this board, you decide for yourself. The word “election” is not found in the Old testament. Rom 9:11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) Note: “Being yet unborn” Rom 11:5 Even so then at this …

BIBLE COMMENTARIES June 16, 2004 (David Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. One year when I was a young Christian, in fact, I determined to read and study the Bible alone and to forgo consulting any comment…

I just finished a study on St. Jude's episitle and and read irishman's excellent sermon on the same. Please take a look at his sermon and our brief dialogue, which inspired this thread. There are two verses (9 and 14) in Jude that are either direct quotes or references to deuterocanonical books (1 Enoch and The Assumption of Moses). Does anyone else have any information on these or other passages from deuterocanonical books that are quoted in the scriptures? To what level should we esteem these deuterocanonical books considering they are quoted or refered to in scripture? I have done a cursory internet search of this topic and nothing relevant seems available.

Does anyone else notice a vast difference between these four verses in the NIV and KJB? Comments? Luke 11:1-4 NIV: 11 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” 2 He said to them, “When you pray, say: “ ‘Father,a hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.b 3 Give us each day our daily bread. 4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.c And lead us not into temptation.d’ ” Luke 11:1-4 KJB: And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples sai…

I am at my wits end here. I can not tell you how many King James Bibles I have, and the reason I have so many...errors. I keep finding errors, with typos or word replacements. When I find one error, I push my Bible to the side, and begin my quest for another publisher. I have tried Holman, Hendricks, Scofield, Cambridge, Zondervan and Tyndale publishers, and always find some little quirk. I am beginning to abondan the idea of authenticity, am seriously thinking of switching to an ESV and starting all over again.

I was at the Family Christian Store and saw the Strand Study Bible. I just about broke my wrist when I pulled it off the shelf. Its a 3-4" thick, KJV. I went home and checked out the publishers website. They tout it to be "relevant" and cutting edge", "As Seen On TV". I digress

In my studies this evening I ran across the verse below...and read it! Proverbs 16:4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. On the surface it appears to say God made "the wicked" "for the day of evil." However that doesn't agree with cross reference verses I recall so...HELP! I looked at JFB Vol. II and I will be the first to admit my cup of Hebrew is weak. Any help for the Hebrew impaired would be appreciated. Also looked at Strongs Hebrew-Chaldee and Mat. Henry the latter wasn't complete I thought. Thanks Dave

?????????? (monogenes) means according to Thayer single of its kind, used of sons and daughters in relation to their parents. So in Scripture "to be one's only son or daughter." In John 3:16, , 18, 1john 4:9. It refers to Jesus being the Son of God in which sense He has no brothers or sisters, though in his humanity He had half brothers and sisters. Jesus is the one and only Son of God, this speaks of His deity. God Bless John
