I was just curious about numbers in your local church.

My local church has a small congregation (approximately 100 per Sunday morning). I attend Decatur Chapel and the congregation is growing. Of course we would like to see more and we're planning to do some community knocking.

If you know the numbers for sure could you post them for the Sunday morning service.

Also, if they are Baptist please say so, the name would be great but not required.

Decatur Chapel, Independent Baptist, 100 approx.

Fairhaven Baptist, Independent, Fundamental...we have lots! Couple thousand? We don't really keep a count, other than the busses (of which we have over 20). Not bragging! A big church, anymore, isn't necessarily a sign of God's blessing (look at all the modernistic churches that are bursting at the seams!). We are seeing souls saved, added to the church and growing in Christ.

Our independent Baptist congregation (North Carolina) is around 250. We are growing out of our building; we have purchased new property recently. My father-in-law pastors an independent Baptist church in Missouri with Sun. a.m. attendance around 750. (It was larger when I attended school there--1200 on Sunday mornings. The reason it isn't as large now is that it has started several new churches in the Kansas City area, and members have gone out of the main church to serve in the sister churches.)

LuAnne, thats great. Your not bragging.

Elkhorn Baptist Church approx 65.

Has anyone here suffered the yo yo affect as i call it. Our numbers go up and down over the years. At one point we were running 150 regulary. After we built a new building numbers dropped way off. Starting to creep back up again.

Yes deputy, that's us! If we could keep everyone we got over the years we'd be bursting at the seams...but we run about 70. We have a large area that is predominately Catholic...and we have several other IFB churches around and people tend to switch churches. We do have outreach ministries but our particular church has alot to overcome from its past (started in the late 40's) in order to really succeed.

We have seen growth in 6 years but lately we are at a bit of a standstill.

Oh and ours is Grace Independent Baptist Church.

Community Baptist. Sault Ste Marie, MI. Around 100 attending for the sermon Sunday morning. Not Sunday school or Wednesday. We do some ministries with people from broken homes and bus children whose parents do not come. The attendence due to these ministries has lost some people through the years (so I'm told) who do not understand these kinds of ministries. I have been attending for one year. I stayed because this town knows this church as being strict or very conservative. When I ran into people who said this about this church (in a critisizing way) when I first got here and I just smiled, because that was what I was looking for. A church not afraid to live by the word of God and teach and preach it. Pray for us, we are praying for revival. We also need more workers. We are getting ready to expand our building, but need more workers so we can reach more of these people. We are at our limit, but know we can bring in more with God's help and if we had the room. The people who are dedicated to helping are being stretched to thin and we need more people for the harvest though.
In Christ.

That is the experience at my church too. No new building just a drop off of membership and similarly, we are beginning to rebound.

Also, duh...thanks everyone for the inputs. It's great to see churches that are not dying. I hope to hear from more people in this thread.

Yes, I'm begging for posts.

It is my perception that the biggest issue that is affecting church "membership" these days is the music issue; but I have a limited circle of churches I'm basing that on.........

My church runs probably about 45 people on Sunday morning, roughly. We've lost a few larger families over the years, though, which has drastically reduced membership.

We're an Independent Baptist church, though I would prefer not to say the name.
God bless,
Crushmaster.

I can appreciate leaving off the name. There can be many good reasons for it.
The number is most important and if it appears to be going up or down.

Well, at the moment, sir, it's pretty much the same, and has been for a while, sadly.
But, nonetheless, we have a pretty dedicated and friendly group, and that's a blessing. :smile
God bless,
Crushmaster.

We lost a few members, because they wanted to bring worldly music in the church. The pastor didn't allow it and the left. The really sad part is, that a few other young people in church liked this idea and left with them.

About 40-50 if also counting children as well. We are a Independent Fundamental KJV only Pre-millinium Baptist Church if all of that is important. Old hymns sung only with a piano and a organ.
