As we all know, it's easy to take a verse out of context in order to "prove" something. All too often, one doesn't take into account the preceding or succeeding verses that lend to understanding what a particular portion of scripture (a.k.a. - verse) is saying.

While chapter and verse divisions are definitely helpful in many aspects, they can also be a hindrance. Chapters and verses weren't part of the Bible to begin with, and I believe that being able to read the Bible without them can be of benefit to someone who is a serious student of God's word. I'm not advocating doing away with chapter and verses, but I do think that being able to read God's word without them could help in giving context where context is ignored.

With that said, here's a link to an online Bible without chapter and verse divisions. So far, this is the best one I've found. I do wish they had chosen a different font though. Be prepared...this is much different than what you're used to. It would be much harder to "read a chapter a day" for your daily Bible reading.

One thing that I've noticed...and maybe it's just me...but I find that I have to slow down (while reading it this way) in order to "take it in"...and that's a good thing.

Interesting. Nice link, and I agree, sometimes the chapter seems to indicate a change in subject when there is not.

As for the use of chapter and verse, I think God gave men the idea for a purpose, and even though it appears to 'change subject'

the one's doing the chapter and verse division had no such view.

The Geneva Bible I use was the first to do the verse division in the English language realm of the scriptures.

They should have, however, established paragraphs (which can be done accurately by following the grammatical / literary flow) in order to make it read easier.

I agree. There actually are some "paragraph" divisions, but they're not obvious because they don't include a space between paragraphs...and their paragraphs are extremely long. That plus a different font would make it easier to read (in my opinion).

Not too long ago I was dealing with a passage in church (I don't remember which one) and told them, :"This verse is in the middle of a sentence, let's back up another verse, oops - that's not a period, it's a comma, back up, semicolon, colon, comma, etc. Vs 1 of chpt one starts out "Therefore" so the context begins in the previous chapter, comma, etc." We went back about 8 verses to the paragraphical beginning and I said, "Now, let's read it in it's contextual entirety"

It's very difficult for me to read a wall of text. Paragraph breaks in the proper places would go a long way in helping people read it easier. A long while back I had a Bible that put the chapters and verses into proper paragraphs. The chapter/verse numbers were still there, but the numbers were tiny. I liked that Bible. :)

I saw that but proper spacing and indentation who be helpful (which is why such things were established). Sorry, just the educator coming out.

Sorry, but no, those are not proper paragraphs. That's just taking a deep breath before diving back into the ocean after the pearls....

That's why he placed the word in quotation marks.

Yep, you're right - they're kinda hard to spot.

They are more like the quick bite of air you grab as a drowning person starts to shove you under the water while climbing you.

It's probably just me or my computer, but that link brought me to an online KJV bible with definite chapter and verse divisions.

Sorry, but I will keep to the chapter & verse arrangement, & feel free to ignore such divisions where appropriate. Well...you could look at it this way...

Well, you could look at it this way...

From what I understand, and I don't know if this is true or not...but the Greek text was written basically as one long word; such as, no punctuation marks or spacing between words. If that's so, this might be pretty close to "the originals".

I had an aunt who never capitalized or used punctuation (along with improper grammar and spelling), though she did space, fun to read a letter from her (you could read it 3-4 different ways).

An example: we came past a reck past bethel church rode going from town with jaybird jaybird wernt driving he was but not recked just passing not that way the other an stoped ....
