Are they wasting precious time. Should they be winning lost souls instead. How much golf is to much golf?    :coffee2:

When in California; my Pastor and I played a round of golf at least three times a week. I just took it for granted that this was the norm for all Pastors in California.

Are you saying you believe Pastors should not have ANY leisure time whatsoever but should spend every waking moment of their lives actively working in the ministry, or is is just golf in particular you object to but would have no trouble at all with any other leisure activity?  I am sorry, but I don't know what holds my Pastor together as it is.  I would have gone stark raving bonkers long ago if I had half the pressures and stress that is thrust on him on a daily basis.  There is NO WAY I would want his job.  It truly must be by God's direct calling because apart from God's power, there is no way a man could handle it.  Even the Lord himself separated himself apart from his disciples for a time of rest and prayer.

I had a gentleman in my church for about a couple years that was very disappointed that I didn't play golf. Like was said above, I think it was his belief that all IFB pastors played golf. Nope. And he didn't care much for how I ate my eggs and hash browns all scrambled up together. But we were friends anyways.

He found me a very odd IFB pastor, and I had to remind him of where I served-an odd place. I think he understood that.

I will say that I am very thankful and extremely blessed to have a pastor who writes all his own material and lessons.  He never gets his sermons and illustrations from a book.  All the Sunday School lessons and handouts are written and designed exclusively by him.  In the very rare occasions he has used another Pastors outline he starts the service right up front with full disclosure of where the material came from, and he received written permission from that Pastor to use his outline and mention his name in relation to it.  I say this only because I have seen Pastors who do not prepare anything on their own, and all their messages are canned messages from a book, and their lesson plans from some outside source/organization.  They had TONS of leisure time on their hands and probably played to much golf, fishing, camping, bowling, or ________ fill in the blank.

Reminds me of an account that Charles Stanley gave about preparing sermons/lessons. He found himself going to his computer and pulling up his files and selecting an outline he wanted to use for the service. He became convicted and deleted all his files.

I play too much golf.

I have played about 10 games of golf in my life, but everyone I have played golf with tells me I either need to play a LOT more, or for preference, a WHOLE LOT LESS.

My pastor doesn't play golf.  He also has a full time job, besides being a pastor.  Now, my FIL, who is one of the deacons, plays golf.  Does that count?

Our pastor doesn't play golf. He's far too busy for anything like that. Our pastors are in the church six days a week, prepare their own sermons and Sunday school lessons, have duties regarding youth groups and AWANA, also prepare and lead Bible studies along with special events. Then there are weddings, funerals, visiting those in hospitals (and elsewhere), appointments for counsel (pastoral, not psych), etc. (etc. can include anything from doing tech work to taking out the trash, from general maintenance to dealing with supplies)

With the long winters, and yes we go soulwinning in the winter time, I am looking forward to a few rounds of golf. With that being said, it is always done on my own time. Preachers have family and needs too. The great commission is to all Christians, not just your pastor. He just might say, "Church Members That Are on Online Baptist Too Much...Are they wasting precious time. Should they be winning lost souls instead. How much Online Baptist is to much Online Baptist?" :)

Too bad we are in different necks of the woods. My hubby loves to golf but only gets to go once a year (some rare years he gets to go twice).
