My hubby and I both have birthdays this week (his is Thurs, mine is Fri). We are leaving this afternoon to spend a couple of days at a bed and breakfast in the next town. It's right on the highway, but it's so well insulated you can't even hear traffic. We've been several times over the last several years. It's so nice to get away with him, and just relax.... Here's a link: http://www.innataberdeen.com/ The guest suites: http://www.innataberdeen.com/rooms/gues ... ummery.htm We've stayed at the Abbotsford, the Holyrood, the Balmoral, and the Cawdoe suite. Don't know where we'll be this time. We register through an organization that allows us to get the rooms f…

has anyone heard of Seedline? a church closeby here in Millford Ohio does Bearing Precious Seed, and they've started a great program that gives other churches a chance to put together bibles! it's the coolest! well yesterday, my family got to do a program at our church last night for Seedline, and it was really great! it was for the whole weekend, but we only went for last night. The Seedline guy had brought all we needed. i got to collate, and there were people stapling, and there were some huge cutting machines too. it was just such a wonderful experience. my 5 year old did a little to help, like delivering my finished books to the group that put the covers on. …

Hopefully this thread won't turn out like the last one... :frog I read an article on tipping today that indicated that our society is going overboard with the tipping thing. The writer's premise was that tipping should be restricted to those workers who earn less than minimum wage because they are providing a service which merits additional money based on performance. Examples include wait staff, bellboys, etc. Anyway, do you tip? What is your baseline? Do you vary based on performance? Do you think tipping should be restricted to jobs like restaurant waiter/waitress, etc.? http://moneycentral.msn.com/community/m ... did=864226

In John's thread (viewtopic.php?f=13&t=25811) about "New People" I posted current "Who's On line" status and noticed there was a "turnitinBOT" and decided to see what it was about. It's a BOT from this site... http://turnitin.com/static/index.html . "About Us The iParadigms team is a group of dedicated professionals that includes award-winning teachers, graphic designers, computer scientists, and business professionals working together to stop the spread of internet plagiarism and promote new technologies in education. Our offices are located in the San Francisco Bay area." "History iParadigms, the company behind Turnitin, got its start in 1996, when a group of …

Good Evening, What are things that should be taught to people, that no one seems to want to teach on. Here's Mine: The church is not a playground. The church sanctuary is not a place for kids to be running around in. It is a place to worship God. I could say a lot more, but I don't want to get into an argument. This thread is not for arguing against other people. Just list your etiquette issues. Thanks

Some of you remember the first thread on the shack - as do I. My reason for this one is that a woman in our church gave it to my wife and reccomended that she read it. I thought nothing of it (as I had forgotten the title of the book and the previous thread). Then my wife mentioned the "woman-god" or "father-goddess", it alerted me as to what this book was. I approached our pastor with the guidance that we should address the issues of this book and worn our congregation about the book only to find out that his wife also read the book. He said that some of those things bothered her, but that she said the bigger picture of the book was very good. Through the cours…

The Long Retreat by Patrick J. Buchanan 02/20/2009 "The situation in Afghanistan is deteriorating," said President Obama, as he announced deployment of 17,000 more U.S. troops. "I'm absolutely convinced that you cannot solve the problem of Afghanistan, the Taliban, the spread of extremism in that region, solely through military means." "(T)here is no military solution in Afghanistan," says Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Said U.S. Commander Gen. David McKiernan yesterday, U.S. and NATO forces are "stalemated." Such admissions by our military and political leadership in a time of war call to mind other words heard back in 1951, when Gen. Douglas MacAr…

Obama and the Great Game by Patrick J. Buchanan 02/13/2009 The day before Richard Holbrooke arrived in Kabul, eight suicide bombers and gunmen attacked the Justice and Education ministries, killing 26 and wounding 57. Kabul was paralyzed, as the Taliban displayed an ability to wreak havoc within a hundred yards of the presidential palace. The assault came as President Obama is both conducting a strategic review and deciding how many additional U.S. troops to send. Earlier, there was talk of 30,000, bringing the U.S. total to 63,000. Now, there are reports Obama may commit no more than the three brigades promised in 2008, and only one brigade now. Clea…

Our kids' jr. church teacher (he's a dentist, BTW! ) passes out candy on Sunday and sometimes my husband makes comments about it saying that kids shouldn't even know what sugar is until they are teenagers. He'll go on and then eventually he will launch a lengthy discourse about all the different kinds of candy he ate as a kid. I rarely had hard candy as a kid and don't really have a taste for it. I remember the occasional peppermint, butterscotch, jaw breaker and cinnamon ball. That's about it. Anyhoo, all of that rambling to ask...what is your favorite hard candy?

The Plan by Newt Gingrich 02/17/2009 Democrats in Congress have made a $1.14 trillion bet on big government. With less than 48 hours notice, they passed a 1,073 - page collection of special interest spending and dared to call it a ?plan.? With interest, the $787 billion bill will cost us, our children and their children about $1.14 trillion. That works out to about $30,000 in new debt for each American household. Worse, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) asked the Congressional Budget Office to estimate the cost of permanently extending the twenty most popular provisions in the bill. The cost? $3.27 trillion. But we?ve seen Washington bet on big government and b…

In the event the economic downturn, recession, or depression continues or worsens public safety funding will be strapped to provide law enforcement personnel. State, county, and local governments are being forced to trim and slash budgets now. Decreased revenue from a depressed tax base will require local governments to downsize their police force. There will be less state, county, and city funds available for law enforcement. I?ve already seen evidence of city governments dropping police task forces designed to prevent neighborhood drug trafficking and activity. I?ve also heard of localities curtailing plans to increase their police forces. Ohio authorities question…

Well the gasping and gurgling is over, the week of 1-2 hours sleep per night is ended. The 3000 mile round trip by car is still ahead. However, whereas 7 different times in his 83 years has seen him fight death with tooth and nail -- this time he fought his body's lack of cooperation but when death came he didn't fight but left his decrepit body peacefully. Having been saved less than a year ago and still just a babe in Christ, my father-in law was ushered into the presence of his Blessed Savior @ 2:15pm MST today. My wife and I were there along w/ a couple from the church. The Grace of God and the Peace of God have been marvelous. To the end of the earthly journe…

Mm, I love medium cheddar! I also enjoy monterey jack, colby and a bunch of other cheeses. I tasted a delectable nugget the other day; it was a cheese that had dill in it. Yum! So, what is your favorite snacking cheese?

I am trying to decide which one to save up for using birthday money and some extra Paypal money. Not sure how much I will get, might have to save longer. I am either looking at getting an airbrush (specially for cakes), which all said and done including colors and cleaner and shipping will be close to $300 (I have been told by decorators I do not want the cheaper one as it has no air pressure control). OR an edible image printer which I can get, counting shipping, for close to $200 all said and done or a nicer one with seperate ink cartriges (only replace a color at a time) all said and done for $300. I did price one of the printers elsewhere and its just as cheap to get …

EDIT:::::::::::: The following story was sent to me from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from a.................... "As a young bagpiper, I was asked by a funeral director to play at a grave-side service for a homeless man, with no family or friends. The funeral was to be held at a cemetery way back in the country, and this man would be the first to be laid to rest there. As I was not familiar with the backwoods area, I became lost; and being a typical man did not stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late. I saw the backhoe and the crew, who were eating lunch, but the hearse was nowhere in sight. I apologized to the workers fo…

A group of country neighbors wanted to get together on a regular basis and socialize. As a result, about 10 couples formed a dinner club and agreed to meet for dinner at a different neighbors' house each month. When it came time for Jimmy and Susie Brown to have the dinner at their house, like many women, Susie wanted to outdo all the others and prepare a meal that was the best that any of them had ever lapped a lip over. A few days before the big event, Susie got out her cookbook and decided to have mushroom smothered steak. When she went to the store to buy some mushrooms, she found the price for a small can was more than she wanted to pay. She then told her husba…

I?m reading, A History of American Christianity, by Leonard Woolsey Bacon (1830-1907), a Congregationalist (I do not know what flavor). Whatever his persuasion of Congregationalist, he seems to be remaining fairly unbiased. It seems the older books are a lot better for shedding light on early history in America. I'm not too far into the book and already have good comments for Baptists and Anabaptists. I'll give a review later and a special expanded discussion (personal research) on one of the persons mentioned in his book.

There are two things politicians like to practice and neither are new concepts. Deception and Elusion; the two forms of presentation aren?t new to government. It isn?t even new to democracy or; even our own nation?s republic. Both have been practiced since the earliest forms of government were established. The difference today isn't the politician; it?s the people making a difference by actually believing their best interests are cared for. When this nation was established, people were much more aware of the obvious deceit and subterfuge of government and politicians. The people establishing this nation had just escaped from despotic governments, politicians, and Bibl…
