But it makes me sick at the number of people that walk around with a cell phone glued to their ear.

I wear a bluetooth because the majority of the time I am discussing work related issues. :wink

Other...I have one but I can't use it in a two-mile radius from my home, too hilly and rural.

I can barely drive, so I never use the thing while driving, either. Cell phones are for parked cars and walking into airport terminals IMO.

With my new job I don't need it. So I'm counting the days when my contract runs out.

I never got a contract. Mine is pay-as-you-go. I hate contracts (when it comes to stuff like cell phones, electricity or other services). They're very easy to get into but very hard to get out of when you want to. I just load about $50 every 3-6 months and that gives me more than enough minutes (can you tell I don't use my cell phone very often? ).

We live in suburban Greenville, SC. It is one of the test markets for cell phone companies so we get all the new phones and services before most other places. We also have about 70% saturation, which means that nearly every adult and young person has a cell phone. My wife and I cut off our local phone service and now only have the two cell phones. It is very convenient and cheap for us this way. :thumb

Chelle, Do you have what they call a track phone? If so, if you load it with 120 minutes, will they expire if you do not use them in a certain time period?

My wife has one, but me, no way. I'm not a phone person.

Around here, they are many areas where a cell phone is not good at all. For instant, here sometime back my daughter house phone was out. Linda and our daughter could not talk to each other on their cell phone, even though Linda could stand in our front yard and look across the pasture and see our daughter standing in her front yard holding her cell phone.

They keep saying its going to get much better, they even put a tower up just west of us, it helped very little. I believe they say its going to get better in order to sell more phones.

I just use an ordinary phone that does not have all the gimmicks such as call waiting or an answering machine or what ever else bell will try and increase your phone bill for. I really dont like using the phone all that often. I remember 10 years ago I would ask for a persons email if they wanted me to keep in touch or what ever reason. I would rather use msn to chat rather then the phone as well. When Bell sent me a cell phone when I moved down here I called them and said that since I spend most of my time in my house there is no need for me to have a cell phone. I only have one person that calls every day and that is a friend across the street otherwise I rarely use my phone, I use it more for calling Prince Edward Island, California, or North Bay then local calls. Even when I have a problem with my phone or bill I will email bell rather then call.

The only cell phone I've ever had and still have is a Tracfone. Never needed it much except for when I take my daughter to or pick her up from the Buffalo airport every four months. The coverage is terrible around here, also. They advertise 99% coverage in the U.S., but we must be in that 1% area. It does work okay when I get close to Buffalo (100 miles away).

As for the minutes expiring, yes they do, if you don't add more time to it within the 60 or 90 days, depending on how many minutes you buy. I think they do have a deal where you can pay $99 a year to keep it active, but you still have to buy the time in addition to that. I did notice tho, that even if the time has expired, you can still use it to call 911, which is nice.
