Jesus was without any sin, so it couldn't be to dishonor her since that would mean sinning by breaking the same commandments that he told us that we have to follow.

I don't think that the Bible mentions anyone else always calling their mother "Woman".

There are also a lot of folks still today who use the term "woman" when referring to their wife and it's not done in a disrespectful manner.

Of course, I don't think this is as common as it once was.

I have heard it posited (and it is just opinion, since the Bible doesn't say) that God knew that eventually people would place Mary in a position of worship (there were already women who were worshipped as gods), and so this was done to show that she was just a woman, and as PastorJ said, show that Christ was the authority.

Jesus referred to His mother as "woman" (Gr. gune) because His sonship had then been overshadowed by a new phase in His messianic role and ministry ("what have I to do with thee?") where His mother is no longer involved. Nothing here suggests that Jesus was being disrespectful in the least (cf. Matt.15:28; Jn.4:21; 19:26; 20:15; 1 Cor.7:16).

I believe that Jesus knew that people may revere her or place her in a position of prominence He was respectfully careful to show others He respected her but didn't place her in a place of worship.
How would it be worship for him to call his mother "Mom" or her name? Would you be worshiping your mother in the place of God if you called her "Mom" or if you called her by her first name? Why would the Bible tell us that all generations are to call her blessed (Luke 1:48)? It doesn't say that about anyone else in the Bible.

Why don't you worship Jael instead? She is blessed above women - Mary is only blessed among women!

Judges 5:24 Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.

(Better yet, why not try reading the whole Bible in context?)

No thanks, I'm not going to worship your god. I only believe in one God (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit).

"Woman" back then was the equivalent of our modern day "Ma'am". It was a term of respect actually.

BB, are you not yet aware that we are an Independent Fundamental Baptist site and in way at all will we endorse the heresies and fallacies of the Roman Catholic Church???????

Not at all.

The heresies in which your Roman Catholic Church engage are myriad.

Tell me, BB, do you accept...

...infant baptism???

...purgatory???

...confession to a priest

...calling a priest, "Father"???

...the wafer and wine of the Eucharist, when taken by a participant, actually becoming the literal body and blood of the LORD Jesus Christ??? We call that "Transubstantiation".

These items barely scratch the surface of the long list of heresies in which the RCC is involved.

Um... howcome the thread is turning into a catholic argument?

I thought my answer to the OP was pretty good.... "woman" is the same as "ma'am" which negates all the other discussion about how Mary should be treated.
