Thanks for all the info on China, but that's really not what I'm looking for. I am looking for documented accounts of a foreign state officially/legislatively disallowing the possession of the Bible in every circumstance. Any credible info would be appreciated. And again, thanks.
I gave you that in my first response. Even the date they made it illegal.
I know of a long time missionary to mexico that was not allowed to bring a bunch of Bibles through customs just recently.
Thanks for the comment, but again, this is not what I am talking about. Prohibitions against bringing certain items across a border is more likely concerned with tarrifs and import taxes, rather than the suppression of a religion. This is almost certainly the case in Mexico, which is officially a christian nation that subsidizes the Catholic Church.

One of my coworkers has smuggled Bibles into China (I am not sure how long ago though). The Chinese government does suppress Bibles and Christianity - what they want is a state-based Christianity that they have control over. If someone preaches what they don't want them to preach or is not licensed by them to preach (in other words, endorsed by the government), it is against the law.

Thanks for the comment Jerry, but I think I have gathered as much info as I'll need concerning China. Are you aware of any state sponsored bible banning in any other parts of the earth?

Voice of the Martyrs would be a good resource for determining where Christians are persecuted throughout the world. They have a list of nations that restrict Christianity in some form or another.

The website is http://www.persecution.com.

As was mentioned earlier, you will probably not find much of what you are looking for because it is not popular to admit that religious oppression or suppression is happening in one's country. :duh

That's why I am looking for official/legislative measures of persecution. They can't hide what's written in official state documents.

There is persuction of christian beliefs everywhere, even on this very website in some instances. The research is to document countries that OFFICIALLY persecute christians or ban religions items (such as bibles, icons, crucifixes . . .)

Obviously, no one here would agree with Bibles being banned - but the world would be a better place if religious icons and crucifixes were gone. They play no part in Biblical Christianity. (And before you argue against what I just said, show me where God is pleased with such in the Word of God, or where they are promoted by the Christians in the NT.)

The Malaysia ban was not a Bible ban, it was a particular translation ban. They didn't like the the name of their god "?????" (Allah) being used to represent the God "????" (YHWH) of Israel.

If some fundamental Christians had their way, the same would happen to many English translations here in the US. In fact, probably not just a ban, but also a burning (as some people here condoned a few months back). What's sad in Kuala Lumpur is that closed-minded people like this have become the majority, and their government established laws to reflect the wishes of their people. I take it Malaysia doesn't have a constitution that prevents the mixing of religion with government.

Mr. Jerry, I don't know of any mentions of icons in the new testament. The four Gospels mention a particular crucifix, but I don't believe I have to elaborate on that one. You seem to believe that every christian tradition is mentioned in the Bible (even though the church was relatively small and those first believers obvioulsy had trouble agreeing on what they even believed) or that no Christian traditions exist that aren't mentioned in the Bible. That's fine, you may believe how you want and I don't believe there is anything wrong with that. This isn't the topic of the thread and I would really like to get as much info on bible banning as I can. I am writing a book and I would like to include some factual accounts of present dayChristian persecution at the hands of an organized government, and in particular, bible bans. Thanks for any help you can offer.

There was country who felt the bible was too violent to read. I don't know they wanted to ban it or not. I forgot the name of the country and where I read it. But anyway, The day they actually ban the bible just because they don't want people to convert to christians is another sign of times.

Can't say I necessarily disagree with you Jerry, but I sure don't want to see them banned in America. I don't want to see anything even from the most wacky religions banned (unless it creates harm to life or limb). As soon as they start having success in outlawing anything religious here you can kiss you privelege to preach in public or private good-bye. There are lines formed of people just waiting to stomp out Christianity...Count on it!

As for the Bible being officially outlawed in a specific country, I think you'll be hard pressed to find one as it wouldn't properly advance their country in the rest of the world and could do them financial and political harm to some extent. Instead they will do what I have seen done in Saudi Arabia. Go through customs when entering the country and they will confiscate your Bible. Call it tariff issues or custom issues, in reality it is banning the Bible. As for home churches being allowed, you better check your data. Officially they are allowed, but I have been to them. Every week they are at a different home so they will not create a pattern that the Matawa can pick up on. If a home church is raided, you are deported. No, they won't cite because of a home church, there are plenty of phony charges they can deport you for.

So an official ban somewhere??? I doubt it, but it's all political speak. It's like what I saw on CNN world yesterday. They were reporting on China's snow in. They followed one guy that actually made it home. This guy makes $4.00 a day and has to live a days travel from home just to work. He can only go home once a year. He and his partner were talking and they said that at least they had a good boss...though their pay was three days late, HE ATLEAST DIDN"T BEAT THEM!!!! Now, ask China if they officially misuse their people. The obvious answer is no, but the proof is in the action. Political speak.

And you know, CNN World actually handled this all in a favorable light for the Chinese Gov't. I don't know how anyone can tolerate to watch CNN for any length. Unfortunately its the only English Chennel for news (if you can call it that) where I'm at.

Another reason that you will not find what we are describing is that your definitions of all things Christian in your Roman Catholic Church and our definitions as Independant Fundamental Baptist believers are worlds apart.

A very common, but not at all fully admitted, fact is that the RCC uses many of the same terms as we IFBs use but simply attaches different definitions to them.
