How many members here on Online Baptist have multiple versions of the Bible?

Are they all God's perserved Word? If the answer is yes, or no tell us why you feel the way you do.

it seems like this has already been discussed before and i think we know what the answer is as far as to which bible is the preserved Word of God.

Uh-oh...I hope this is not baiting.
I have a KJV, a Korean translation, and a Korean-English NIV. My mom has a Geneva that I use sometimes and I use Biblegateway for comparisons.

I believe that they are all God's preserved Words to a certain extent. I believe that the NIV contains errors, so it is not wholly and completely God's Word. I don't believe that the KJV, the Geneva, or other Bibles based on the proper source texts and translated literally contain errors, for the most part.

It's the KJB for me.

I do have the RSV I was given as a child in Methodist Sunday School about 36 years ago.

I also have a KJB/NIV parallel Bible.

I don't want to violate the rules of this forum by stating the following; so, if I'm out of line, mods, feel free to delete...I'm just answering the question in the OP.

I enjoy studying from the KJV (various editions), NKJV, and NASB. I do not currently own an ESV, but I would study from it also. I believe all of these versions to be the true words of God to men, because I believe they are all faithful translations of the available Hebrew and Greek manuscripts. It has always been amazing to me that, although these versions come from different manuscript families (Byzantine, Alexandrian), there is so little difference between them...none, really, when it comes to important doctrinal issues. Praise God for His faithfulness to preserve His written Word for us over thousands of years! We are so very fortunate to have these translations in our own language.

EDIT: Different wordings among versions don't trouble me like they seem to trouble some. Translation is tricky work. It is interesting to compare different versions, and to do word studies in the original languages; so much meaning can be mined from the Scriptures with very little effort, using concordances and other language tools that anyone can use.

I guess the first question you have to ask yourself is do you believe that God has left us with an inerrant version of His word in the English language? If so, which version is it? If not, it doesn't matter because you will most likely interpret and use what scripture best fits your lifestyle. Now, I am by no stretch a scholar on the topic, but after some research I have found that there are siginificant enough differences between the KJV and the modern versions to warrant careful use of the latter. Side by side comparisons between the KJV and the modern versions will show many subtle and some blatant omissions made in the modern texts. Most of these omissions may be seen to allow for false doctrine and/or diminishing Christ's position as the Son of God, His co-equal status with God, and the power of his resurrection. Let's look at a few (I am comparing with the ESV as it is convenient, but the changes seem almost universal):

Mat 1:25

(ESV) but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.

(KJV) And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

This omission would seem to give substance to the Roman Catholic Church's (RCC) stand on MAry's perpetual virginity.

Mat 6:13
(ESV) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

(KJV) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Found in most all existing manuscripts, this omission is beyond my understanding.

Mar 2:17 (see also Mat 9:13)

(ESV) And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

(KJV) When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

What a convenient omission. In order to be saved one must be repentant. We must have a change of mind and come to understand that sin separates us from God and it is only through His grace that we can be saved, not our own works.

Mat 17:21

(KJV) Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Complete omission. Fasting and prayer is a fundamental truth of the Word of God.

Mat 18:2
(ESV) And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them

(KJV) And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

Left out Jesus. The modern versions leave out this name more times than I have time to write here. Why omit the author, reason and fulfillment of the Testament?

Mar 15:28

(KJV) And the Scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

Verse omitted. This eliminates statements concerning the fulfillment of prophecy (See Luke 24:27 and Isaiah 53:12)

Joh 1:27

(ESV) even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie."

(KJV) He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

Removes the pre-eminence and pre-existence of Christ.

Joh 6:47

(ESV) Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.

(KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Removes a foundational truth. One must believe ON CHRIST.

I could go on and on but by now I hope you get the idea. Also it is interesting to note that the Modern Versions all seem to tie back to Westcott and Hort's minority text which consists of over 5000 changes from the Majority Text. You should look into the character of these two gentlemen: Brook Foss Westcott - Studied Far East religions and was considered a mystic. Fenton John Anthony Hort - admirer and proponent of Darwin and the theory of evolution. Neither seemed to believe that Heaven could be attained by works or faith as they both believed Heaven existed only in one's mind.

We are KJB. We do have several versions on our shelf, to use for comparison purposes (kinda like qwerty), but not for study. We use commentaries and books like Wuest, but stick to the KJB. If the others are so close, why bother with 'em? We understand the KJB fine...the Holy Spirit is a good Teacher! :thumb

I have several versions I have picked up over the years, but I am of the opinion that only those in the TR family of translations are preserved and pure. I am (like most of you,) KJB. I like my German Luter Bibel, it is TR based and good.

Over the years I have used various versions (RSV, NIV and NKJV) but find myself always going back to the KJV. It is a good principle to have several modern versions for comparison etc but one has to bear in mind that the KJV upholds Christ's deity in a way that MVs do not, with the possible exception of the NKJV (and even that has drawbacks eg. John 1 v 3, "through" rather than "by").

KJB only here. I wouldn't use any other version. I understand it, love it, and know it is God's preserved word in English. I've done much study on this subject only to find the KJV comes out on top every time. As for versions in other languages... I havn't studied that very much...

KJV's are the only bibles I own. I did briefly have some others for the "bad book" shelf, but every time I read them it irritated me. Poorly written, no flow, verses left out etc. Since I have the Internet now I got rid of the "bad books": no reason to have them. If I want to look at another "version" for some reason it is easy to look it up on the web.
