Do you use any commentaries for your scripture study that were printed before 1611?

No - what does that have to do with what I posted?

I have no use for commentaries that are critical of the King James Bible or that correct it continually. If they are based on other versions, I get tired of them very quickly - as they are not helping me to understand the Bible I am reading or studying.

Warren Wiersbe used to base his commentaries on the KJV - now he seems to be mainly using the NKJV - so I am finding more and more to disagree with or overlook. The other commentaries I read are all based on the KJV, such as Matthew Henry, Oliver B. Greene, John R. Rice (though he makes some references to the ASV), various ones I have in my Bible program - some others I have too.

Yes, and considering its translators and the time in history - that makes sense. Not saying it's right...but what does that tell you about King James' translation? :wink

Nothing.

If you can't respect your king (as long as he doesn't make you do things that would be against the bible, of course), you are going to have a hard time respecting the King of all kings. beside the article says: James wanted a Bible free of political and theological notes.

James was not sinlessly perfect. He did many despicable things. History bears out some of his cruelties. Why does respecting an earthly leader carry over to my sinless God? God's way is perfect. James's was not. I do not have to respect James (besides all that, he is not my earthly authority...he's dead.)

Yeah, I know what the article says. There are so many holes in a Theocratic society model, when it is monist in form. Let's not hi-jack the thread though.

Suffice to say that we all have different ways in which we study the Bible. I use some MV's as study helps or as commentary to the KJV, which I use as the final authority. That is how I study God's Word. When there are contradictions, and there will be - I defer to God's Word.

No one should have a problem with that, but in case they do - welcome to life. The OP asked for my viewpoint on the NKJV - and I gave it. If we want to discuss the validity of certain study methods, then we should probably start a new thread.

There are many of our fellow brothers and sisters that use the NKJV and get a lot out of it. God has blessed many through a multitude of translations. But my preference is the KJV.

In your opinion... The NKJV is a dangerous deception. Remember where you are Kubel - this is a KJVonly board. We don't need you promoting MVs here (stated because of several posts of this nature in two different threads).

Of course, much can be said about the textual differences in the NKJV, (I'm KJVo) but I'm surprised that no one has brought up the symbol that is printed on the NKJV---anybody bothered by that?

Can u get anymore politically corect. :Green

I disagree, there are translations and then there is the bible. I believe these other translations are tools of the devil.

I was saved in 1993 using a NKJV. A few years later I was challenged by a new Pastor to our church to study the issue. The first thing I learned about the NKJV is that it removed God's name over 100 times. That was all the proof I needed. I still study the issue and am more convinced than ever that the Lord gave the english speaking people the KJV. :wink

I have a book that uses mostly KJV quotes with three or four NKJV quotes. I looked up the NKJV quotes and they are blatantly different from the original texts in the KJV. It wasn't just that they took out "Hell" and put in something nicer, it was a completely different meaning. :puzzled:
