What do you all think of the stock market?

I hear its been going up and down lately.

We don't invest in stocks (no money to right now) and I see the wisdom in investing in stocks and bonds in general and don't have a problem with it.

However, I notice older people who have alot of stock tend to get happy or depressed depending on how many thousands of dollars they "make" or "lose" overnight. To me, it doesn't seem healthy....how many have actually committed suicide after a stock market drop or crash?

Just thoughts....

Most people who are gainfully employed have some stack in the stock market as their retirement (whether it be 401K, pension plans, mutuals, etc.) are tied up in it. I don't worry about it as I have my faith in God. If I lose it all, God will still clothe and feed me as he has done the Lily and the Sparrow.

Agreed, trc.

Someone was telling me the other day that the stock market tends to foretell what our economy will be in a couple of years. I don't know if our economy has a couple more years!

I don't have no stock and I don't want no stock and of course if I wanted some stock I would not have the money to buy it. So its going up and or down has no effect on my happiness nor does it make me feel depressed.

I believe I figured up last year that I invested a bit over 20% of our income in Jesus' Churches, I suppose I could cut it down to under 10% being as I do not believe in tithing, them take the rest and invest it in stock market and build up money for future use and or to leave to others. NO, I thought about that, I don't want to invest in something where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal.

Stocks are generally unstable. They can flucuate in worth greatly. Generally, stock prices go up over time which is why stocks are recommended for those who have years to grow their money.

As folks get older, closer to retirement age, it's recommended they begin moving out of stocks into more secure investments so they won't risk losing the money they've built up over the years. Those older folks who really need their invested money to live on are taking a HUGE risk if they keep their investment in stocks which is why these folks are so effected by the ups and downs of the stock market.

My friends are well off and fine, and I know they are wise and have their money invested in several places. My grandparents too. But they still lose thousands.

Real savings is in gold and silver. They will always have value, even if the dollar amount fluctuates. I wouldn't recommend sinking all one's money into it, but it wouldn't hurt people to have a few ounces of the stuff laid aside so when the economy falls they have something to take care of their family on.

But - that takes money to do as well! And we don't have any extra here, either!! :lol

The market is always going up and down but you don't typically lose your principal if you invest wisely. My grandmother has done a LOT of investing over the years and has done well in them. She worked in secretarial work, too. Anyone can invest and put away a good savings if you do your research. She now has enough money to take big world trips every year. I have some stock but I'm not worried about it. Investing is for the long term and this is just a low point, it'll go back up.

True...but usually people who are wealthy do lose because of the amount of stocks they have. Both my friend and my grandparents are worth a couple mil and that's when they lose the money. Not just a retirement acct or something. Also depends on how high risk you decide to invest.

I would love to have a chunk of money and time and "play" with stocks for a while. I used to frequent a penny stock forum and watch penny stocks, but due to our location and time zone difference (and being busy), it would never work out for us to do much stock trading.

Why would I want any gold, why would I spend money for it, for when I get to heaven I'll be walking on that stuff. The only investment I have is in heaven, in the mean time I'll just have to trust God to provide me with Linda and my needs.

I would highly recommend everyone to invest only in the treasures in heaven, they cannot be lost, no one can take them from you, them in the mean time, trust God to provide, after all He promised us He would. Surely we can trust Him!

Here's an interesting tidbit for you, Pure Gold doesn't rust/oxidize, and obviously moths don't eat it. Gold is an interesting study in the bible, and also from a scientific point of view.

My hubby's uncle has sooo much money invested in the stocks. He puts all of his trust in his bank account. :sad It is very saddening b/c it is all about money with him. He was so depressed this past weekend. Of course, he has been given advice by my FIL, but won't take it...when asked. Oh well, to me that is his loss.

We don't have stocks, but, I have my retirement plan. I had some annuities that we had to cash in to eat when my hubby was out of work. Do I regret it? No. It is only money. We need money as a necessity...but, a lot of people can worship it, as everyone well knows.

I Timothy 6:10...For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. KJV 1611 AV.
