Our pastor has a son and a daughter, both grown. His son went to college to become a doctor. In the midst of attending pre-med college the Lord called him to preach. After getting a Christian Master's degree (I don't recall the actually type) he's now our associate pastor.

Ā

Our pastors daughter is currently on the foreign mission field with her husband.

You or we cannot put a recovery time on a young man. Moses and many more men of God live the wild life first my friend.

Ā

No, but the local church can remove their pastor because of his rebellious child. Ā It has to to protect the assembly.

Ā

Christians rebel against Jesus Christ all the time. Does this mean Christ should be disqualified from the ministry?

Ā

No, it means we follow what the bible says because it says a pastor/deacon must rule well his house and have his children in subjection. Ā If that's not happening and the pastor is ignoring God's Word and the Holy Ghost, then the local church should take biblical action.

Ā

Even in secular homes some kids turn out alright while others go off the deep end. Ā There are none righteous, no not one, if they have not accepted Christ as Lord and Savior after first having made repentance before God. Ā It doesn't matter if one wears a pin-striped suit and the other prison stripes, they're both headed for eternal separation unless they repent. Ā It's a different topic really.

i think you added the red letters to this? Ā 50% of pastors and 85% of deacons would be non active today, if we go by their children not right or active in the church. :(

No, paraphrasing. Ā Subjection has nothing to do or should have nothing to do with children being active in the local church.

Ā

You might be right. Ā If those pastors had obedient kids, they could spend more time on the things of God and not diversions through rebellious children.

I can't remember if this was mentioned already so....

Another issue is that people expect so much and demand so much from their Pastor that he can be tempted to neglect his family.
Doing the work of the ministry along with what many people THINK the pastor should be doing, and then him working a job (full time or part time - but often full time), and trying to fit the family in there somewhere is hard.

And if the Pastor forces time with his family often times he is criticised for neglecting the church.

I was talking just yesterday with a couple of pastors both of whom said that although they have an assigned "day off" they rarely actually have a day with no church work.

Even a couple of weeks ago when I last took a "day off" and took my family on a day trip, my wife and I ended up discussing certain matters in the church.

Then people wonder why the pastor's family suffers......

Well said, Dave. Ā This is what happened to the pastor at the IFB church my husband and I went to for four years. Ā He spent so much time with the church, that he believes his oldest son rebelled b/c of that. Ā Sadly, he blames himself. Ā I hope and pray that his oldest son comes back to the flock. Ā He has been grounded in God's word, and sadly went the worldly route. Ā This pastor did the right thing when he removed him from the ministry, as he saw him becoming a prodical. Ā I always thought, if he didn't have his daughter, he would collapse.

My FIL also spent so much time being a deacon, with the demands he had to face with my church. Ā My husband has always stayed faithful. Ā And, so have his sisters. Ā All the brothers are back serving the Lord, except one. Ā We keep him, his wife and baby in prayer. Ā He is saved. Ā I have heard his testimony.

What's funny is that the same members who would be the first to vote out a pastor with a troubled kid would be the ones with the kids who probably helped lead the pastors kid astray. Ā

Ā

Obviously the qualifications of the Bible hold for a pastor.....but every Christian should strive for good kids.

Ruling his house well and keeping his children in subjection...hmm?

Ā

Does this mean make his children get saved? Make them grow in the Lord? Make them live for the Lord?

Ā

Nobody can make anyone do any of those things. I think the problem is with the churches and pastors who actually think the verse means the above.

Ā

Subjection is keeping children orderly and obedient to their earthly commands. Certainly means nothing spiritual.

Ā

Are these kids causing disruptions in services? Are they beating kids in church? are they selling drugs to other church kids?

Ā

100 years ago early teens weren't considered kids. You remember with your own kids, the point where they were forming their owns opinions and not following your beliefs and ideas about God and life and everything else. That is when parents threw them out to start their own lives since they now know better than them.

Perhaps the Lord actually meant children, you know, before the "change" in their early teens. It is US law that says they are children till 18 for some things and 21 for others, not necessarily God's intent.

Something to think about.

Pastors raise their kids the best way they can. The devil tries to make the pastors weak, anyway that he can. Santan will try the pastor frist, then that wife, then the children to hurt him, the pastor. Those that think its only the pastor fault are weak christian. As salvation is personal, so is the ways of the child or teen. Each for their own. They will choose whom they will serve.

Why hasn't some one posted the scriptures for the requirement that some of you are tossing around.

Ā

So I will.

Ā

1Ti 3:4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
Ā 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

Ā

The subjection is with all gravity.Ā  That is the subjection is of mutual respect and demeanor of uprightness, grounded and centered on Christ.
