For that matter, the whole internet is the same....but you and I are using it right now. If my daughter, or sons, were underage I would put tight restrictions on both.

Like all things online one needs to be careful what they click on.

I absolutely agree children should be monitored carefully with regards to any online activity.

I'm amazed at how many Christian parents allow their children to have full, unfiltered and unmonitored internet access in the palm of their hands and behind the doors of their rooms.

No children in our house.  While both my wife and I have Facebook accounts, we don't click on advertising links on Facebook.

As Brother Wayne said, the internet itself is used as an evil tool.  Instead of complaining about Facebook, open a page, dedicate it to posts that glorify God.  Make it public so that, not just friends can see it, but the entire Facebook community.

Use it to witness to people; family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, etc..

This site is flagged as "mature" on my Covenant Eyes report to my accountability partners (my associate pastor), but Facebook doesn't show at all!  I would never close my facebook account though because it is the primary way I can keep up with our many missionaries overseas since many/most of them post updates and pics on Facebook.

Yes..before you start wondering why I have Covenant Eyes (a Christian accountability and parental control program) on all my computers, smart phones, laptop, and tablet when my youngest child is now 31 years old and lives 600 miles away. It is for ME.  By personal conviction I have been single for the last 19 years after my divorce from a woman I was unequally yoked with.  While I have denied myself the pleasures of female companionship, the battle with my flesh has been very hard, and I have now had Covenant Eyes for 5 years to help me.  That is why I take such a stand on the womens clothing issue.  I really need all the help I can get to keep my eyes, mind, and thoughts on things edifying to God.

On another note, the woman I am divorced from 19 years ago has recently passed away.  My vow "till death do us part" has been fulfilled and I am just now starting to entertain the thoughts of female companionship.  No I am NOT here seeking.  Don't even go there. (Saving up 300 camels right now).

I have ad blocker, so I don't see the majority of advertisements on any internet site I go to. If one happens to slip through, I simply do not click on it. If it's a distraction, I close the site and move on.

I have no problem with those who refuse to use Facebook for whatever reason. That's between them and their conscience and God. I use it because it's the best way to stay in touch with certain family members, friends, and other missionaries. I've tried snail mail, email, and skype to stay in touch with them, but I eventually lost contact with or rarely heard from them, so I got Facebook.

Like everything else on the internet, Facebook is a tool. This site is a tool, and in many ways it's similar to Facebook, we have profiles where we can choose to put as much or as least information about ourselves as we see fit. We are communicating our thoughts and opinions to each other, I've seen pictures posted, videos posted, etc. It's not really all that different.

I haven't been here long but I enjoy the fellowship here with others of the same heart and mind. the things I could never find any other place. I'm thankful to have found a place were the owners hearts are upon the things of God and not of the world ,we should consider the owners of facebook ,myspace, and the many others which are worldly ' these men make their money off every "free account" and have the right to use you and your children in whatever way the wish.'' Read the user agreement'' when you click yes you are agreeing to their terms . should Christians support these ungodly men?

I use the computer mostly for my Business online/offline use, I visit the Top Baptist websites every once in awhile, stay in touch with missionaries, come here to Online Baptist and that's it.

as for facebook I will not support all their worldly ethics nor will I become a part of it, thanks Pilgrim for the post.

Rule number one of the internet.  If you are not paying for something, you're not the customer, YOU are the product!  They will sell you and everything about you to your own mother or any total stranger who asks, regardless of why they want you (the product) or what they wish to do with the "product".

Facebook gets exceedingly little out of those who only use it as a means of connection with a few others. Their bread and butter comes from those who click on all sorts of things. Those clicks allow them to profile what a persons interests seems to be and then they can sell that to others and guide specific ads to specific people who may be interested in such things.

Those who only use Facebook to communicate with family, friends, missionaries and for church purposes are typically out of their loop.

I've seen various warnings about ads and things yet I've never once seen any of them show up on Facebook when I've been on there. As far as I can tell it's because I don't use it much and then only for communication.

When I came back to Online Baptist, I closed my account on Facebook.  I re-opened it a little less than two months after that, b/c "friends" were contacting my husband, through private message, to ask about me and to tell him that I was missed.

I use Facebook as a witnessing tool to so many people I know from high school, college, and those I picked up along the way.  I am able to keep in touch with church family and IFB missionaries, as well.  I also have Christian "friends" on Facebook.  Hopefully, lost family are reading the scriptures I post, too.  And, I like it as a news source.  I can get news from independent news sites, as opposed to those from the "Lamestream" Media.

As far as that?  I rarely even use it anymore.  Some days I don't even post anything.  It depends on the day, and what I have going on in my personal life.

I hope not to try and to discourage anyone from the use of facebook  especially those whom use it as a way to witness to the lost, it just find it hard for me personally to use facebook when the founder Mark Zuckerburg is an Atheist and I've read his personal views about Christians and what he believes. this young man is on my prayer list along with the other 9 owners of facebook. God bless

If that is your conviction, well and good. Wouldn't want you to change. If the reason you don't like it is because it supports an atheist though, well, aren't most services/stores in this country probably owned by non-Christians? Would you for instance avoid using/shopping at (and I don't know if these are owned by unbelievers, just using for examples sake) Walmart, McDonalds, Lowes, Wendy's, Applebees, Canadian Tire, etc?
