From all that I've read about the border guards is that they take a lot of liberties that other cops, etc. would never get away with and the our gov. tends to look away at their abuses.

That being said, the whole thing smells fishy.

More fuel for the fire, plus the reason so many are down on law officers. Such stuff as this should never happen. Imagine how many times it happened before cameras started capturing them. As I have said before, the judge will take the law officers word over the private citizen.

Birmingham Police Officers Fired After Beating

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/21/us/21 ... tml?ref=us

I posted about this elsewhere. Notice how the police kept this hidden for about a year. Had it not been for a few odd incidents, this would have never come to light and nothing would have been done.

Even with cameras virtually everywhere these things continue to happen. We constantly see on the news where cops are caught on their own dash cams beating someone. Even knowing the cameras are there these cops don't change their conduct.

It's common knowledge that in one of the nearest major cities the cops routinely take inmates, hold thick phone books over their heads (sometime elsewhere) and then beat on the phone book with their night sticks. In this way, the inmates receive a beating that doesn't leave marks.

There should be high standards for one to become a cop and they should be required to hold to those standards to remain a cop.

Not where I live. Our Judges let guilty folk go all the time. We call our jail the revolving door.

Are those officers prevented by their employer from witnessing to those they pull-over or is that a completely open mission field

Yes, trc, we are forbidden to witness while on duty. However, if a person asks a question about my faith, I can answer. Such was the case many times with me. I would play my Christian music while transporting a prisoner and 8 out of 10 times it provoked conversation.

I only know of one person that got saved after I sewed some seed. One of our Christian Correctional Deputies lead him to the Lord in the cell. God gives the increase.

I also outright witnessed against policy, as well as kept a big ole King James Bible on my desk for everyone to see. My Sheriff (not saved) often would walk into my office and look at the bible then me. :smile

God gave me provision to witness.

Based on Romans 13, my work in Law Enforcement was my ministry. Now as a Pastor I plan to continue as a Chaplin.

We ought to obey God rather than men.

We had a female judge like that in this county. We got a new sheriff a few years ago and he went right after the drug problem in the area; among other things. A great change from the last do-nothing sheriff we had.

The problem was, every case that came before that woman judge was either tossed out entirely (she seemed to love doing that!), or was greatly limited. On the rare occasions when something went forward she was quick to hamper the prosecution and impose the most trivial of sentences possible.

Finally, after several attempts, she was voted out of office. Nearly every cop in the county worked for years trying to get her removed.

Her method was legal. What she did was demand 100% perfection in everything the police put forth. A misplaced coma or period was enough for her to toss out a warrant or evidence.

That said, nearly every other judge in this county and the surrounding counties obviously lean towards the prosecution and work against the defense.

Several years ago one judge was having an affair with a woman whose son was always in legal trouble. While they were carrying on this judge made sure her son never did more than a little county time; even after he stole a car, took off with a minor girl, and they crossed state lines.

This was also the same judge that if he had a woman to sentence would slap them on the wrist, no matter what her charge, if she cried in court. However, on the rare cases where the woman didn't cry, he threw the book at her. :roll

There is a big time "good 'ol boy" network in this entire area.

One county cop in the neighboring county got away with having sex with minor girls in his squad car for years because the other cops covered for him. The first female city cop hired in the nearby college town was caught having sex in her squad car with another officer the first month she was there!

<<"Yes, trc, we are forbidden to witness while on duty.">>

I would think that would vary from department to department. But its nothing I ever though about nor do I have any knowledge of.

I once got a ticket, I was driving 55 MPH, the speed limit was 55 MPH, the trooper said I was going 77 MPH.

The JP was real nice and talked with me a bit about my home town having been the peach capital of Arkansas. After which he asked did I have anything to say about the speeding ticket. The only reason I made a comment was he had been so friendly, I told him the truth of the matter. His friendly attitude ended, "Don't come in my court and call our State Trooper liars."

Once I got a ticket for going 79 MPH in a 70 MPH speed zone, I was only going 55 MPH, the judge told me our officers do not make mistake and I should never infer that they would lie about it, doing so will only make it harder on you in my court and cost you much more money.

And yes, I know of many other cases 1st hand of similar situations. Sad to say, it happens quite often.

And of course everyone knows that some towns set up speed traps, and they love out of state plates, for they know they can take advantage of them, even writing them tickets when they're not speeding. Money making situations.

Lets not turn this into a rake the police over the coals thread please. Everyone knows they aren't perfect, most have had some less than pleasant encounters with them, but I dare say they are better than the Law in peters time and this is what he had to say about those that habitually criticized government authority in his day.

2 Peter 2:10-11 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.

We shouldn't choose to overlook this verse or acts 23:5 where paul remembering the OT says: "Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people."

Respect of authority even when it is undeserved should be the testimony of believers.

Yep we could have this discussion from cops to pastors to plumbers, to truck drivers to school teachers to soldiers etc. on and on.

Thats why we are told by God to....

Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

And this applies to us all...

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Praise God for Jesus Christ and the full atonement for our sins by his blood.
