Members Invicta Posted July 24, 2011 Members Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) We had two great old hymns today, Sinners Jesus will receive; Sound this word of grace to all Who the heavenly pathway leave, All who linger, all who fall. This can bring them back again Christ receiveth sinful men. Refrain Sing it o’er and over again; Christ receiveth sinful men; Make the message clear and plain: Christ receiveth sinful men. Shepherds seek their wandering sheep, O'er the mountains bleak and cold, Jesus such a watch doth keep O'er the lost ones of his fold, Seeking them o'er moor and fen, Christ receiveth sinful men. Refrain Sick and sorrowful and blind I with all my sins draw nigh; O my Saviour thou canst find Help for sinners such as I; Speak the word of love again Christ receiveth sinful men. Refrain Christ receiveth sinful men, Even me with all my sin; Purged from every spot and stain, Heaven with Him I enter in. Death hath no more sting nor pain Christ receiveth sinful men. RefrainThe second was O teach me what it meaneth, That cross uplifted high, With One, the Man of Sorrows, Condemned to bleed and die! O teach me what it cost Thee To make a sinner whole; And teach me, Saviour, teach me The value of a soul! O teach me what it meaneth, That sacred crimson tide, The blood and water flowing From Thine own wounded side. Teach me that if none other Had sinned, but I alone, Yet still Thy blood, Lord Jesus, Thine only, must atone. O teach me what it meaneth, Thy love beyond compare, The love that reacheth deeper Than depths of self-despair! Yes, teach me, till there gloweth In this cold heart of mine Some feeble, pale reflection Of that pure love of Thine. O teach me what it meaneth, For I am full of sin, And grace alone can reach me, And love alone can win. O teach me, for I need Thee, I have no hope beside— The chief of all the sinners For whom the Saviour died! O teach me what it meaneth The rest which Thou dost give To all the heavy-laden Who look to Thee and live. Because I am a rebel Thy pardon I receive Because Thou dost command me, I can, I do believe. O infinite Redeemer! I bring no other plea; Because Thou dost invite me I cast myself on Thee. Because Thou dost accept me I love and I adore; Because Thy love constraineth, I’ll praise Thee evermore! Edited July 24, 2011 by Invicta Ian Day 1 Quote

Members JerryNumbers Posted July 25, 2011 Members Posted July 25, 2011 This is one of the hymns we sang. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long; This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long. Perfect submission, perfect delight, Visions of rapture now burst on my sight; Angels, descending, bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long; This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long. Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blest, Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love. This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long; This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long. 1John2:15-17 1 Quote
Members farouk Posted July 25, 2011 Members Posted July 25, 2011 How good is the God we adore Our faithful, unchangeable friend Whose love is as great as His power And knows neither measure nor end. 'Tis Jesus the First and the Last, Whose Spirit shall guide us safe home, We'll praise Him for all that is past And trust Him for all that's to come. Quote
Members no name joe Posted July 26, 2011 Members Posted July 26, 2011 A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevaling. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal. 2. Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing, were not the right man on our side, the man of God's own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he; Lord Sabaoth, his name, from age to age the same, and he must win the battle. 3. And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed his truth to triumph through us. The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure; one little word shall fell him. 4. That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours, thru him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill; God's truth abideth still; his kingdom is forever. Quote

Administrators HappyChristian Posted July 26, 2011 Administrators Posted July 26, 2011 <pre>I love all of those hymns!! This is one of my favorites: 1. Man of Sorrows! what a name for the Son of God, who came ruined sinners to reclaim. Hallelujah! What a Savior! 2. Bearing shame and scoffing rude, in my place condemned he stood; sealed my pardon with his blood. Hallelujah! What a Savior! 3. Guilty, vile, and helpless we; spotless Lamb of God was he; full atonement can it be? Hallelujah! What a Savior! 4. Lifted up was he to die; "It is finished!" was his cry; now in heaven exalted high. Hallelujah! What a Savior! 5. When he comes, our glorious King, all his ransomed home to bring, then anew this song we'll sing: Hallelujah! What a Savior! Quote

Members JerryNumbers Posted July 26, 2011 Members Posted July 26, 2011 When We All Get To Heaven Sing the wondrous song of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace, In the mansions, bright and blessed, He'll prepare us a place, When we all get to heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, We'll sing and shout the victory. While we walk the priglrims pathway, Clouds will overspread the sky, But when traveling days are over, Not a shadow, not a sigh. When we all get to heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, We'll sing and shout the victory. Let us them be true and failthfu, Trusting, serving every day, Just one glimspe of Him in glory, With the toils of life repay, When we all get to heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, We'll sing and shout the victory. Onward to the prize before us, Soon His beauty we will behold, Soon the pearly gates will open, We shall tread the streets of gold. When we all get to heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, We'll sing and shout the victory. There's lots of very good ones! Quote

It usually goes to a very swinging tune, if I remember correctly. Like, to play along in the car. Quote

Members John81 Posted July 27, 2011 Members Posted July 27, 2011 I never head it with a swinging tune. Yes, it shouldn't have a "swinging tune", even though it's typically a bit more pronounced, such as is "I'll Fly Away", but I've only seen such performed in a "swinging" way by secular groups. 1John2:15-17 1 Quote

Members Wilchbla Posted July 28, 2011 Members Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) Two great hymns by John Newton.Behold the Throne of Grace Behold the throne of grace, The promise calls us near, There Jesus shows a smiling face And waits to answer prayer. That rich atoning blood, Which sprinkled round we see, Provides for those who come to God An all prevailing plea. My soul ask what thou wilt, Thou canst not be too bold; Since His own blood for thee He spilt, What else can He withhold. Beyond thy utmost wants His love and pow’r can bless; To praying souls He always grants, More than they can express. Since ’tis the Lord’s command, My mouth I open wide; Lord open Thou Thy bounteous hand, That I may be supplied. Thine image, Lord, bestow, Thy presence and Thy love; I ask to serve Thee here below, And reign with Thee above. Teach me to live by faith, Conform my will to Thine; Let me victorious be in death, And then in glory shine. If Thou these blessings give, And wilt my portion be; Cheerful the world’s poor toys I leave, To them who know not Thee. One There Is Above All Others One there is, above all others, Well deserves the name of Friend; His is love beyond a brother’s, Costly, free, and knows no end: They who once His kindness prove, Find it everlasting love! They who once His kindness prove, Find it everlasting love! Which of all our friends to save us, Could or would have shed their blood? But our Jesus died to have us Reconciled, in Him to God: This was boundless love indeed! Jesus is a Friend in need. This was boundless love indeed! Jesus is a Friend in need. Men, when raised to lofty stations, Often know their friends no more; Slight and scorn their poor relations Though they valued them before. But our Savior always owns Those whom He redeemed with groans. But our Savior always owns Those whom He redeened with groans. When He lived on earth abasèd, Friend of sinners was His name; Now, above all glory raisèd, He rejoices in the same: Still He calls them brethren, friends, And to all their wants attends. Still He calls them brethren, friends, And to all their wants attends. Could we bear from one another, What He daily bears from us? Yet this glorious Friend and Brother, Loves us though we treat Him thus: Though for good we render ill, He accounts us brethren still. Though for good we render ill, He accounts us brethren still. O for grace our hearts to soften! Teach us, Lord, at length to love; We, alas! forget too often, What a Friend we have above: But when home our souls are brought, We will love Thee as we ought. But when home our souls are brought, We will love Thee as we ought. Edited July 28, 2011 by Wilchbla HappyChristian 1 Quote
