Primitive Baptists 1 2

I have read a lot of conflicting information about the Primitive Baptists. Some sources say that they are Calvinist and other sources say they are not. I have read that many of them sing Sacred Harp and that they are very minimalist and separatist, which I like. There is a Primitive Baptist church tucked way back down an old dirt road not too far from my house that I was considering visiting. Has anyone here had any experience with them?

If you have Amazon Prime there's a few free videos about the King James bible that are worth the watch. One is entitled, "A Lamp in a Dark Place" and another is its sequel entitled, "Tares Among the Wheat". Both are pretty good. There's also one entitle, "KJV-The Making of the King James Bible". Finally, there's one entitled, "KJV- The Book that Changed the World" but that one you have to rent. The latter focuses a lot on King James himself, the translators and the socio-political environment of the time. Check them out if you can.

(By David Daniels of Chick Publications) "Remember, Remember, the fifth of November!" Guy Fawkes, Gunpowder and The Bible While the U.S. has its Fourth of July, complete with fireworks and revelry, England also has November 5 and it appears their celebration outdoes ours. All over the country “bonfire societies” field multiple parades complete with massive firework displays. . So, what is so special about November 5? It’s Guy Fawkes Day! Those who know the history of the holiday, know the significance of the “gunpowder plot” that got Fawkes and some of his buddies executed. But, if Fawkes had succeeded in igniting the fuse to 36 barrels of gunp…

As I was reading an article about Brendon "Chelsea" Manning being pardoned, it brought to mind the ridiculousness of the whole "gender identity" clap-trap and I had a thought. Just as biological identities are objective, could we not say that spiritual identities share similar objectivities? Biologically, Brendon Manning is 100% male and there is nothing that can be done to change that. Due to indulging his sexual perversion, he desperately wants to be a woman, asserts that he is a woman and is willing to have his body mutilated in order to mimic the appearance of a woman. However, the only way to become a woman is to have been born that way. No amount of …

Just for a small, yet wide range of discussions... It has been stated in another thread (Jim's 'Closed Communion' sermon entry) - [Not by Jim btw] "You are not a member of the body/bride until a local NT church votes you in. There is no such thing as the universal, invisible church." For accuracy - you ARE a member of the body OF CHRIST, but not a member of the bride - [bride being the earthly group of independent churches, in different communities, collectively.] Which does indeed form "a universal", and "invisible church" - as the whole group of churches (real one's mind you.) form the whole body of Christ...don't they? * Not the catholi…

The "length of Sermon" thread - or rather some of the responses in it, have brought to my mind something which I thought of a while back. There was a thread about "loud preaching" a while back and there were the same kinds of answers given in that thread. What I speak of goes something like this: "I like long preaching", or "I Like loud preaching". Length in and of itself is irrelevant. Volume in and of itself is irrelevant. "Enthusiastic delivery" in and of itself is irrelevant. These things are irrelevant because no one would say they like a sermon that is doctrinally incorrect just because it is long. No one (after thinking about what…

So, I received a surprise today: I got a call from a lady on the base here where I work-I am going to speak race for a minute because it is part of the subject. It is a black lady on the base, a lovely Christian woman, and she is, I guess, in charge of the base's Martin Luther King day event, and she called to ask me to give the prayer for the event. Now, it is to me an honor, because, despite all the controversy around MLK, and I know there is a lot on both sides, from what he spoke, I agree with his message, that race should not play into everything in human relations-but as many know, there are still those, on both sides, who don't see it that way, and use the nam…

Hello everyone, I should be back now, but not everyday. Starting a church was such a huge task, but things are going well and God is getting the victory. Looking forward to chatting with you all again. God Bless and have a great Sunday tomorrow.

Recently I encountered an article on the matter of sermon length that stirred my heart yet again on the matter. Often in the church culture of the U.S.A. (I do NOT speak about the church culture of other countries, since I simply do not know about them), it is argued the sermon length MUST be somewhat short, being no longer than 25-30 minutes, and rarely reaching 45 minutes. Indeed, arguments are presented such like -- if a preacher/teacher cannot say what has to be said in that amount of time, then . . . (something that implies that he is a failure as a preacher/teacher of God's Word). Indeed, arguments are presented against longer messages because of "human attention…

Sorry if this is not the appropriate spot. Anyone here have any experience or know of anyone that used the Converge P3 Pastor Placement Process? I'm extremely leery of shelling out $175 for a non-guaranteed search firm to interview me and match me up with a church they feel is a good fit. http://convergep3.com/V3Home.php

I know it is the holiday season and folks are busy, visiting family and they also have a life apart from OB. But lately, if it were not for RSS Feeds there would be no activity on our board. I come here every morning with my first cup of coffee hoping to read something interesting or edifying; I also visit the site three or four times during the day. But lately there seems to be a serious lack of contributions/interest on the board. Out of a total membership of 4,984, one would think that God's people could find something to talk about or contribute. I know from experience with my own message forums that it is the nature of forums for interest to taper off with time.…

'Twas the Night Before Jesus Came 'Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house Not a creature was praying, not one in the house. Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care In hopes that Jesus would not come there. The children were dressing to crawl into bed, Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head. And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap. When out of the East there arose such a clatter, I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash! …

Have an especially Merry Christmas and Happy hāligdægs. The root of this word holiday (hāligdæg) is Old English meaning 'Holy Day'. Yes, I understand we Baptists esteem every day as holy. Some esteem one day above another, etc. But, so many words over time have been hijacked by the secular world that I wanted to share this knowledge with my brothers and sisters. I heard about it as I rode to Sunday School this morning while listening to Ravi Zacharias. He also said, in jest, don't tell the atheists or they'll want to ban it. God richly bless you all during these remaining days of 2016 and in the year/s to come.

May God bless all of you as we ponder upon the birth of the Lord Jesus; the Saviour of the World. Merry Christmas! I do hope that the song, "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear," sung by the Cleveland Baptist Church, is a blessing to all of you. Alan

I get that we are not voting for "Pastor in Chief" but with more viable christian, moral, ethical, politically savvy, etc, candidates. Why are preachers and other Christians backing Trump? At first I could not wrap my mind around it but when you realize the majority of these "pastors and Christians" are "Business Christians" who sell christian products and build big christian buildings and run churches as a business; It makes sense that they would chose a depraved business man over the ethical, moral, christian statesman. I think their justification for this is From the Religious business 101 handbook; 2 Corporations 3:17 Where the spirit of Business practices is, the…

For those who may be interested, I am aware that I have a number of "more intensive" forum discussions unto which I have contributed just "hanging" at present. I am writing this "note" in order to inform those who may be looking for my next contribution in one of them - I am NOT done, but just very busy at present with ministry, family, and holiday responsibilities. For me, contributing to these "more intensive" discussions requires more than just a few, quick lines. Please be patient with me. Thank you, Pastor Scott Markle

Anyone know anything about old picks? We recently bought a house built in 1954 and I found this pick in some rubble in my basement wall. Any ideas? Is it old or just something that slipped through the floorboards?
