In another thread, tired wrote:
Our youth are down at camp this week also. Down at the Wilds in NC so be in prayer for them also.
I was just wondering if anyone else's church sends their kids to the Wilds...or if anyone else had heard of the camp--like/dislike, etc.

Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Baptists, and the Constitution! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Don Boys, Ph.D. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Covenant News ~ July 09, 2008 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Americans had won the war with England, written a Constitution under which they would be governed and eleven states had approved it. Virginia and New York approved it with the understanding that a Bill of Rights would be added. The Baptists in those states were the major promoters of a Bill of Rights to gu…

So what do ya'll think of "miniskirt" meetings? By that I'm talking about 2-3 days special meetings (miniskirt because they ain't long enough to properly cover anything). It's been my observation that most churches need no less than 5 days to get past playing "it's church time" and get down to business. Many times it takes a while before the pastor will admit that he's convicted and does something about it. Probably why so many pastors will swap favors (you preach my meeting and I'll preach yours) instead of having an evangelist.

Yesterday, I discovered a reason to blog... [an edited excerpt from my blog] Rachel (joyfulpraise93) mentioned in her blog that blogging is a good way to keep one's family and friends up to date without sending a bunch of emails. Now why didn't I think of that? I used to assume that blogging was for chatty types (which I'm not) and I become bored very quickly of "small talk" (although, I really enjoy the blogs I read; you gals are great writers!). I also never thought our life was interesting enough to put out there in the blog-o-sphere. But...being the organizing minimalist that I am (stop laughing), I now see blogging as a good thing for me because I am terrible…

I thought I would post a thread to discuss the gasoline prices. I live in Florida and the prices here have hit the $4 mark. I never imagined I would ever in my lifetime pay this much for gasoline. I can remember getting all upset when gasoline when beyond $1.00 gallon and every gasoline pump in the nation had to be replaced! (Sort of a Y2K thing for you younger folks!) I found a map of gasoline prices for the entire country here at this link - it is near the bottome of the page. http://www.baynews9.com/GasPrices.html#citrus I have been reading articles about how schools are implementing 4 day school weeks to save gasoline. What are some of the ways you guys are chang…

I was reading some replies on a blog about the murder of Christa Alexander. Several people are calling her father a hypocrite. They claim that if you forgive someone you would not want justice served. To want justice to be served on him and at the same time say you forgive him is not possible. That is he truly forgave him he would not want Couty to suffer the least bit of punishment. I know everyone will have much to say about this.

I notice that most 'fundies' ( our slang term for IFB's) go to church in the morning, and also the evening service. I am doing this nowadays too. I have often wondered when it came about? Like, is it something that folks feel is necessary or is pleasing to the Lord, or just something that most Christians love, because they love to be in church? On times that I have not gone, I have found immense satisfaction in Bible study at home, but miss the fellowship. Is it an unnecessary burden that is placed on others, with the guilt trip added for the not so holies that don't turn up at nights as well. I ask this for a reason. In Christ, Carlos.

For Outstanding Performance In The Killing Of Unborn Children, Henry Morgentaler Named To "Order Of Canada" Henry Morgentaler's naming to Order of Canada met with controversy By Terry Pedwell, The Canadian Press ADVERTISEMENT OTTAWA - The naming of abortion-rights activist Dr. Henry Morgentaler to the Order of Canada is being met with both applause and outrage. The Harper government was quick to distance itself from the decision. Morgentaler, best known for taking the issue of abortion rights all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada, is among 75 people who will receive the prestigious national honour. "The Conservative government is not involved in either de…

A recently retired New York man wanted to use his retirement funds wisely, decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal The modest farmhouse had been vacant for 15 years; the owner and wife both had died, and there were no heirs. The estate was being sold to pay back taxes. There had been several lookers, but the large barn had steel doors, and they had been welded shut. No one wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and it wasn't complimentary to the property anyway... so, no one made an offer on the place. The New York gentleman bought it as is, paying just over half of the property's worth and moved in. The Barn. The ste…

General Douglas MacArthur's Farewell Speech Given to the Corps of Cadets at West Point May 12, 1962 General Westmoreland, General Groves, distinguished guests, and gentlemen of the Corps. As I was leaving the hotel this morning, a doorman asked me, "Where are you bound for, General?" and when I replied, "West Point," he remarked, "Beautiful place, have you ever been there before?" No human being could fail to be deeply moved by such a tribute as this, coming from a profession I have served so long and a people I have loved so well. It fills me with an emotion I cannot express. But this award is not intended primarily for a personality, but to symbolize a great mora…

We got back from our trip Monday night, but I just uploaded the pics, so here are a few. Proud Dad with his soldier: My soldier: Isn't he handsome? :Green He's at AIT now, hopefully will be home in early November. Then it will be on to other schools... I miss him, but am very proud of him. We had a good time with him. The Family Day demonstration was really nice. All of the soldiers (unbeknownst to most of us) were across the field in the woods. When the speeches were done, all of a sudden different colored smoke bombs were being thrown out of the woods. When there was a huge smoke screen, all of the sudden we saw the colors coming through the smoke,…

(Something I found in my email today) Iowa Versus Louisiana When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a 'vanilla' Iowa , because that's the way God wants it? Just a personal observation. ..as I watched the news coverage of the massive flooding in the Midwest with over 100 blocks of the city of Cedar Rapids, Iowa under water, levees breaking, and the attention now turned downstream for when this massive amount of water hits the Mississippi, what amazed me is not what we saw, but what we didn't see... 1. We don't see looting. 2. We don't see street violence. 3. We don't see people sitting on their rooftops waiting for the government t…

She was 93. Her husband is 96 and still drives. The world changed around them, and they forgot to change w/ it. Whenever you walked onto their little farm, you would swear you stepped back into the 40s. I would venture to say Papa only owned one tractor his entire life, and still uses it. The barn is red. The house is a little old farm house with squeaky floors. Most of the meat they ate was raised and butchered by Papa. I haven't been to their house in about 5 years, but I would venture to say that there is a garden growing. They had the same furniture they had most of their life. They kitchen was an antique in and of itself. She dressed like a sterotypical farmer's wi…

I have never really liked soccer. I used to go see the Baltimore Blast. Which is an indoor soccer team. I also played soccer in grammar school but never really liked FIFA or MLS. For some reason though my cable has a soccer channel called Fox soccer. I watch all the games. It is so exciting and I can't believe I am enjoying this. What do you do when there isn't an IFB close to you? I'm used to being surrounded by tons of close churches to choose from, so this is new to me. My husband and I are moving in a couple of weeks and the closest IFB church is 2 hours away (sadly, I thought we were going to be closer to it). With the price of gas being 4.50+ in that area, we would have a hard time going to that church and even then with the distance we'd only be able to go to it on Sunday mornings. We'll probably only be able to go once or twice a month. It seems all of the churches close to where we will be living are either 1. Catholic/Episcopal that sort or 2. Charismatic/Pentecostal. There's one …
