Hi! I wanted to make this thread to get your opinions on fantasy-related entertainment, by this I'm referring to books, videos, cartoons, etc. Where do you draw the line? Many books containing the fantasy element have these beings which are not human as main characters(for instance, pagan deities, aliens, elfs, fairies) and the story revolves around them. Would it be acceptable to read or watch a story with something like that?

Hey Matt.... When you create your Blue Ribbon commission to cut Online Baptist spending would you please consider me? I just love Blue Ribbon Commissions! Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson started work today on the toughest jOB in America: coming up with a plan to cut Online Baptist budget deficits. President Barack OBama named Bowles, a Democrat from North Carolina, and Simpson, a former Republican senator from Wyoming, to head the OB Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. Their task is to build bipartisan consensus on a plan for the Baptist board to balance its budget, excluding interest payments on its debt, by 2015. "Everything is on the table

We have at least one skunk who has taken up residence under a portion of the new addition. The last three nights a couple hours after dark (they are nocturnal) the dogs go crazy in a certain area of the floor and then the skunk sprays under there and it starts to seep up. During the day they are of course sleeping and all is good. I took three skunks out of here a few years back with a Have a Heart trap, but they were not living under the house and we didn't have the dogs wandering around. The area they are coming in an out of is facing the street so the trap isn't a good idea. I'd like to put something under there that tells them, get lost you are not welcome. If …

Would "Sing His Love" by Caedmon's Call still be considered rock? It's more folk as far as I can tell, but it does have a snare drum like on every beat at various times. So I'm just wondering where you guys would categorize it: rock, borderline, or good? I'm posting the thread here because the Music section has been moved to the IFB forums, and I go to an ECB church, though I don't label myself, since I don't agree with ECBs on everything.

Open question to news media: Why is it that when "anyone else" gets snow it's a "weather event" but when NY City or Washington gets snow it's a "news event"?

Yesterday I got some strange texts from my son. He was texting me smiles and laughs...and said he was just doing it to make me wonder. Then, this morning, he wrote and asked if I was going to work. I said yes. Through the morning, he sent texts asking me silly questions. Then, one of my co-workers brought in this great big box.... I am looking at 2 dozen mixed roses in a vase, with a box of chocolates sitting next to me (unopened...I'm gonna share them with my hubby). Everyone thought the box was from my hubby, until I opened it and got the note, which said, "Love ya Mom. Josh." Man, oh man. My hubby has always done things like that for Valentines' Day, annive…

It is so hard to be consistent in prayer, and yet, that is exactly what is needed in our lives and work for the Lord. We often pray in spurts; we go for awhile, and then simply peter out; if only we could pray on a regular basis, for specifics as well as as in general. Some men have accomplished a great prayer life; these are the old-time preachers we hear about like Finney, Mueller, Hyde, etc, and they have moved mountains for the Lord! Oh, if only we would see the power of prayer (myself especially!) and get on our knees before God, what a revival we could see in America. Remember 2 Chronicles 7:14? Remember the promise of healing our land? Not to mention the man…

the following was found on a pastor list..... As I was in the Philippines the pastor told me that many of the mountain churches don't have hymn books. Instead when someone comes down to the cities they will just try to remember the songs they hear and then teach them to the congregation when they get back. At one such church the pastor said that two of the songs they sang were quite interesting, let me tell you what they sang and see if you recognize the songs. Magestry, worship His magestry, Uncle Jesus...... Gensings my soul, my saviour far away, how green thine eyes, how green thine eyes... this got me to thinking about some others who should change song wo…

I walk my dog + 6 others 3 times a day and in the morning I go past an old lady's ( no apology for calling her a lady ) house, she is an old character and without fail every morning comes out for a natter and to see the dogs who all love her ( she always has biscuits for them ) She was a dispatch rider during WWII and with my interest in bikes we always got on well ( even took her out on the back for her 90th birthday ) She had a few stories to tell about her antics during the war - bit of a girl she was, her husband died in a Japanese POW camp and never re-married. Well on Tuesday she wasn't there, car was in the drive - did I mention she was 94, still driving and t…

I don't know if any of you have seen this, but there is a big debate going on in Alabama about the legality of electronic bingo machines. The Supreme Court has already stated that one establishment's machines comply with the law. The Gov. has formed an anti-gambling task force that has threatened to shut down other such operations that he contends offer de facto slot machines disguised as electronic bingo machines. Not many people know that Alabamians have a long history of violently attacking their at times oppresive government. In the 1940's the attorney general was assassinated in Phenix City for attempting to shut down illegal gambling facilities. In the 1970'…

Do you know U.S. History? 1 2

I'm sure anyone could google an answer if I asked who said a famous quotation. However, if I ask who's thought is a certain statement I prOBably would get no reply to it. Since it is a thought, there could be more than one person who could be attributed. Take the following paraphrase from U.S. History: Who, spoke the words from which the thought above evolves? Your answer must be someone famous in U.S. History and not from some Joe or Jill's blog spot.

One of my close friends has made me realize something interesting about myself that I didn't pay much attention to before: I have a way of stating things convincingly enough that people who disagreed before can often accept it without asking for proof or questioning it. This particular friend, however, questions almost everything I say, especially theological statements. At first I was rather frustrated by it because I wasn't used to it -- in fact, many people in our youth looked up to me as almost a sort of guru although I always asked them not to exalt me -- but it made me realize that other people often accept the things I say without reasoning behind it. That does…

My son, Nathaniel was listening to his friends on Sunday evening hoping for a snow day from school. On the way home, Nathaniel pipes up from the back of the van, "I hope we have a snow day tomorrow!" I turned around and asked him, "Why? You are homeschooled - you will be snowed in to you school." He didn't think about that part.

I've really about had it with this computer. I'm thinking of using some of our tax returns to buy a new one. Any suggestions on a new computer that runs well, can handle applications, work well on the internet and should be good for several years? I'm thinking of checking some online dealers (Dell, etc.) and some local dealers once I get an idea and compare prices and offerings. Anything you may have to offer will be greatly appreciated; I'm really not up to date at all on computers.

Got "temporary membership cards" from AARP today.... I wrote on them "NO TO YOUR LIBERAL AGENDA'S" and put the cards back in the PrePaid envelope (which was for payment). If any of you get this "offer" I suggest you do the same. I'm happy to make them pay the postage back for my negative reply...

Our Military A Perspective - Part 1

The military has always had a civilian in charge, the Commander In Chief (CIC), the President of the United States, has always been in charge. The CIC tells the military what change agenda to pursue. Changes come to the CIC from varied sources, himself maybe, something he has experienced from his own service. Sometimes close advisors suggest change from their own service experiences. How many of the current administration
