Hi. Since this is day number 4 in our homeschool experience............. I was just wandering what is a typical day like in other homeschooler's homes? We are having fun; but I am very regimented and have the children on a tight schedule. It is working for us because I like things to be orderly.

Judges: 'Gay' exposure OK for kindergarteners In a case that could wind up in the U.S. Supreme Court, an appeals panel upheld dismissal of a lawsuit by Massachusetts parents seeking to prevent discussion of homosexual families in their children's elementary school classrooms. The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals yesterday agreed with a judge's decision last year that a school can expose children to contrary ideas without violating their parents' rights to exercise religious beliefs. Hi. We are finally, after many years of prompting from the Lord, beginning our homeschool journey. I am a little nervous and excited. The kids are esctatic! Please pray for the school we are leaving. We don't want to hurt them or cause them any problems. We also don't want this to be a cause to break our fellowship with them, as they have been hurt in the past by other IBF people. One of my closest and oldest friends works as a teacher at the school as well. The new school year begins in 4 weeks here. It has been a tough decision because of these reasons, but one we believe the Lord wants us to make. Don't you just love how the Lord continually takes us out of our c…

My question is for those that homeschool, or will homeschool, or would if they had children...oh well, it's for anybody! Can you show me Biblically why you homeschool? I've had 2 people tell me they homeschool because of Deut 6. I just can't seem to understand what they are talking about. Looking for some insight.

Once again, not really a "homeschool" post, but for everyone I offended with the letters from santa post, here's a laugh to make up for it! HOW TO WRAP A CHRISTMAS PRESENT WITH A CAT 1. Clear large space on table for wrapping present. 2. Go to closet and collect bag in which present is contained and shut door. 3. Open door and remove cat from closet. 4. Go to cupboard and retrieve rolls of wrapping paper. 5. Go back and remove cat from cupboard. 6. Go to drawer, and collect transparent sticky tape, ribbons, scissors, labels, etc. 7. Lay out present and wrapping materials on table to enable wrappingstrategy to be formed. 8. Go back to drawer to get s…

I know that I will probably regret posting this, but when my pastor's wife sent it to me, it made me think of all the talk we all had here about Jesus, Santa, and the true meaning of Christmas. I truly hope and pray that I offend no one. This just touched my heart and I wanted to share it with you all. True Meaning of Christmas Just a week before Christmas I had a visitor. This is how it happened. I just finished the household chores for the night and was preparing to go to bed, when I heard a noise in the front of the house. I opened the door to the front room and to my surprise, Santa himself stepped out next to the fireplace. "What are you doing?" I starte…

Hi. I am pulling together the books I will be using for my children's homeschooling (first year for us.) I will have a 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grader. I would like a Bible program that would span those grades without needing separate classes. Do any of you have any good recommendations for any programs? Thanks, jennifer

OK, maybe you guys can give me some suggestions? Once a month, there are a number of home-schooled families that get together and have a fun time out with eachother. It's good for them to get out and about and play with children that are "odd" like them (because they are home-schooled). The girls go off and play or talk like girls do. The girls are quite fair dinkum. But the boys... I volunteer to play with the boys, right? I'm the oldest (I'm more than twice their general age), so I look after them. Well, they are hard to handle. Half of them are young teenagers, and they are so prone to getting bored. Personally, I think it is just that their attention spans just ov…

Where would I buy (cheap used) bible curriculum for elementary aged kids? We use the charter school system in Ohio, so our taxes pay for our Ohio Virtual Academy. The history lessons are great as they teach history including Biblical history which is great, but we are adding a Bible class to the lessons also. So, where's the best source.

I was thinking of going the unschooling way for my kids. I want to have a cirriculum for Math and Language Arts. What is a normal day of "school" for you? My my biggest concern with unschooling is that they won't be learning what they need to. Thank you for any help. In Christ, Melissa P.S By the way my boys are 11 and 13 years old, in 6th and 8th grade.

Anybody shop at a particular store or on Ebay for homeschooling material? There is a large KJV bookstore in this area that has a huge homeschooling section. They buy used homeschooling materials from parents and then resell them for 1/2 the cost of what the price would be from the publishers. I was able to get most of my A beka 4th grade books and K5 books from Gullions and the rest from Ebay. Incredible savings! :thumb

I always said that I could never homeschool, it wasn't for me, yada, yada, yada. I was afraid I couldn't do a good job and the kids wouldn't learn anything. Well we are homeschooling for the first time this year and :uuhm: :uuhm: :uuhm: I actually enjoy it! We had a great beginning to the school year. In December, ask me how its going. :cool

I could really use some ideas for lang. arts. My son was using Abeka a couple of years ago. Then last year I just filled in with misc. cur. Now this year I went to find new cur. and realized that I might need to fill in alot of missing skills. Should I go back and get this years according to his age or where he left off with Abeka. I am leaning towards starting where he left off with Abeka. Abeka is much more advanced. (I noticed that it is pretty equal to the Public school or general cur. for his age.) The problem is the $$$ to buy Abeka books again. Any suggestions?

There is a lot of stuff the student text doesn't teach that they have to know. I didn't buy the teacher text for this class and I guess that was a huge mistake.

For those of us who have been taking time off for the summer and are soon starting back to school.... What ages or grades are you teaching and what are your plans? I have a 16 yr old (11th) and a 14 yr old (9th). So far....it's Geometry and Algebra I from Teaching Textbooks. English 12th grade from Landmark Freedom Baptist Press and undecided for the 9th grade yet. We usually use Abeka for the history and my oth grader will be doing Apologia Biology. The 11th grader will be doing the online thing for Anatomy and Physiology (I used www.free-ed.net with my two older children and it was great! So we're doing it again.) Anyway Bible and Literature will probably be Abeka.…

I am home school all the way! But I have heard people say that if the mother is a high school drop-out then she should not home school her kids (even though it is Biblical). What do you all think? Katy-Anne

the A Beka reading isn't going to be enough, even with extra activities added in to lengthen it. Have any of you ever made up a reading list of books that you had your child read that you could share? She's game to read just about any reading level 5th and up, but age-appropriateness becomes a problem at a certain point. (She asked to be assigned 2 book reports a month and I'm not against that )

What homeschool curriculum do you use? My family uses Christian Liberty for my 6th grader. Our youngest is not old enough for school yet. We only pay about $125 per child. We tried Abeka and loved the books, but it was way to expensive. Over $400 a year per child. I even tried to ebay alot of the books, but I ended up with too many different editions. Nothing matched up. Bob Jones we found were just a little confusing on some of the layouts of the books. Does your state have alot of requirements for homeschooling your children? The only thing Arizona requires is to give notification that the child is homeschooled. No tests are required, no special curriculum, …

My husband and I want to home-school our children but all of the curriculum we have looked at is out of our financial reach. Our pastor's wife has offered to borrow us her BJU video that she has and some teachers guides but that is still spendy. Does anyone know of some less expensive materials out there that are easy for a first time homeshool teacher?
