  1. Just wanted to update...my Catholic friend who lives in Long Island got SAVED and was baptized last Sunday...WHILE the pope was giving mass at Yankee Stadium!!!
  2. Dear Friends, Your prayers are needed! We found out yesterday that my Mother has a tumor in her throat. The dr didn't say that it's malignant, he won't know for sure until the biopsy, but from the way he was acting, he sure seems to think it is. She has a CT scan this week and the biopsy next week, so please pray for her. Thanks and God bless.
  3. Y'know, it's funny, EVERY-body likes that!
  4. This may not be the right place to post this, but it made sense to me! I have started a new website just for cooking and recipes and I wouldlike to invite everyone to stop by! The address is http://vickiskitchen.tripod.com.
  5. For one: no one said what you are stating. Second: I think what the Bible teaches is pretty important - don't you? And it is the Bible that teaches us not to use any kind of deception or guile in our lives, when speaking to others, etc. So how does it make it okay to teach our children falsehoods? How many times did Jesus rebuke the Pharisees for their traditions that contradicted the Word of God?
  6. I'm sorry, ya'll, but I just really don't think that God is sitting around in Heaven pointing lightening bolts at people who allow their children to believe in Santa Claus! OR the Easter bunny and tooth fairy, for that matter. I'm probably about to make some people mad, and if I do, I hope they'll forgive me, but I just have to say this...GET OVER IT ALREADY! :bonK:
  7. I know that I will probably regret posting this, but when my pastor's wife sent it to me, it made me think of all the talk we all had here about Jesus, Santa, and the true meaning of Christmas. I truly hope and pray that I offend no one. This just touched my heart and I wanted to share it with you all. True Meaning of Christmas Just a week before Christmas I had a visitor. This is how it happened. I just finished the household chores for the night and was preparing to go to bed, when I heard a noise in the front of the house. I opened the door to the front room and to my surprise, Santa himself stepped out next to the fireplace. "What are you doing?" I started to ask. The words choked up in my throat and I saw he had tears in his eyes. His usual jolly manner was gone. Gone was the eager, boisterous soul we all know. He then answered me with a simple statement . . . "TEACH THE CHILDREN!" I was puzzled. What did he mean? He anticipated my question and with one quick movement brought forth a miniature toy bag from behind the tree. As I stood bewildered, Santa said, "Teach the children! Teach them the old meaning of Christmas. The meaning that now-a-days Christmas has forgotten. "Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a FIR TREE and placed it before the mantle. "Teach the children that the pure green color of the stately fir tree remains green all year round, depicting the everlasting hope of mankind, all the needles point heavenward, making it a symbol of man's thoughts turning toward heaven." He again reached into his bag and pulled out a brilliant STAR. "Teach the children that the star was the heavenly sign of promises long ago. God promised a Savior for the world, and the star was the sign of fulfillment of His promise." He then reached into his bag and pulled out a CANDLE. "Teach the children that the candle symbolizes that Christ is the light of the world, and when we see this great light we are reminded of He who displaces the darkness." Once again he reached into his bag and removed a WREATH and placed it on the tree. "Teach the children that the wreath symbolizes the real nature of love. Real love never ceases. Love is one continuous round of affection." He then pulled from his bag an ORNAMENT of himself. "Teach the children that I, Santa Claus, symbolize the generosity and good will we feel during the month of December." He then brought out a HOLLY LEAF. "Teach the children that the holly plant represents immortality. It represents the crown of thorns worn by our Savior. The red holly berries represent the blood shed by Him. Next he pulled from his bag a GIFT and said, "Teach the children that God so loved the world that he gave his begotten son." Thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift. Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a CANDY CANE and hung it on the tree. "Teach the children that the candy cane represents the shepherds' crook. The crook on the staff helps to bring back strayed sheep to the flock. The candy cane is the symbol that we are our brother's keeper." He reached in again and pulled out an ANGEL. "Teach the children that it was the angels that heralded in the glorious news of the Savior's birth. The angels sang Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace and good will toward men." Suddenly I heard a soft twinkling sound, and from his bag he pulled out a BELL,. "Teach the children that as the lost sheep are found by the sound of the bell, it should ring mankind to the fold. The bell symbolizes guidance and return. Santa looked back and was pleased. He looked back at me and I saw that the twinkle was back in his eyes. He said, "Remember, teach the children the true meaning of Christmas and do not put me in the center, for I am but a humble servant of the One that is, and I bow down to worship him, our LORD, our GOD."
  8. Once again, not really a "homeschool" post, but for everyone I offended with the letters from santa post, here's a laugh to make up for it! HOW TO WRAP A CHRISTMAS PRESENT WITH A CAT 1. Clear large space on table for wrapping present. 2. Go to closet and collect bag in which present is contained and shut door. 3. Open door and remove cat from closet. 4. Go to cupboard and retrieve rolls of wrapping paper. 5. Go back and remove cat from cupboard. 6. Go to drawer, and collect transparent sticky tape, ribbons, scissors, labels, etc. 7. Lay out present and wrapping materials on table to enable wrappingstrategy to be formed. 8. Go back to drawer to get string, remove cat that has been in the drawer since last visit and collect string. 9. Remove present from bag. 10. Remove cat from bag. 11. Open box to check present, remove cat from box, replace present. 12. Lay out paper to enable cutting to size. 13. Try to smooth out paper, realize cat is underneath and remove cat. 14. Cut the paper to size, keeping the cutting line straight. 15. Throw away first sheet as cat chased the scissors and tore the paper. 16. Cut second sheet of paper to size - by putting cat in the bag thepresents came in. 17. Place present on paper. 18. Lift up edges of paper to seal in present. Wonder why edges don't reach.Realize cat is between present and paper. Remove cat. 19. Place object on paper to hold in place while tearing transparent sticky tape. 20. Spend 20 minutes carefully trying to remove transparent sticky tape from cat with pair of nail scissors. 21. Seal paper with sticky tape, making corners as neat as possible. 22. Look for roll of ribbon. Chase cat down hall in order to retrieve ribbon 23. Try to wrap present with ribbon in a two-directional turn. 24. Re-roll ribbon and remove paper, which is now torn due to cat's enthusiastic ribbon chase. 25. Repeat steps 13-20 until you reach last sheet of paper. 26. Decide to skip steps 13-17 in order to save time and reduce risk of losing last sheet of paper. Retrieve old cardboard box that is the rightsize for sheet of paper. 27. Put present in box, and tie down with string. 28. Remove string, open box and remove cat. 29. Put all packing materials in bag with present and head for locked room. 30. Once inside lockable room, lock door and start to re-lay out paper andmaterials. 31. Remove cat from box, unlock door, put cat outside door, close andre-lock. 32. Repeat previous step as often as is necessary (until you can hear cat from outside door). 33. Lay out last sheet of paper. (This will be difficult in the small area of the toilet, but do your best). 34. Discover cat has already torn paper. Unlock door, go out and hunt through various cupboards, looking for sheet of last year's paper. Remember that you haven't got any left because cat helped with this last year as well. 35. Return to lockable room, lock door, and sit on toilet and try to make torn sheet of paper look presentable. 36. Seal box, wrap with paper and repair by very carefully sealing with sticky tape. Tie up with ribbon and decorate with bows to hide worst areas. 37. Label. Sit back and admire your handiwork, congratulating yourself oncompleting a difficult job. 38. Unlock door, and go to kitchen to make a drink and put out cat food. 39. Spend 15 minutes looking for cat until coming to obvious conclusion. 40. Unwrap present, untie box and remove cat. 41. Go to store and buy a gift bag.
  9. I want to thank everyone who replied to my post, whether you agree with me or not. At least it got us all talking, and that's good. And whether you do the "Santa" thing or not, I wish you all a very merry Christmas!
  10. Wow. Didn't mean to start anything. I believed in Santa when I was a kid. And I believe in Jesus. And I would have loved getting a letter from Santa. And if you all could have seen my little girl's face when she read her's, well, you'd understand why I did this. She'll eventually figure out Who is real and who isn't. But in the meantime, can't she believe in both of them?
  11. This isn't really a "homeschool" post but, I just found the cutest thing!! Its a website where you can have Santa send a personalized letter or email to your child or grandchild and its FREE. http://buggybuddy. com/santa. htm
  12. Well, the test got cancelled and he had to go to a little part-time thing, which ended, BUT the test at CAT has been rescheduled and he has to go Wed. AND the people at the part-time thing called the temp svc and requested him back!! Y'know, it occurred to me, God hears us even when we THINK we're just talking to ourselves.
