Simple enough...Before clicking this topic, had you heard of the "flying spaghetti monster"?

I'm working on a tract with the Flying Spaghetti Monster on the cover, with Bible evidences and a Gospel message inside. Thought it'd be interesting to see how many people actually know what it is, because I don't want the tract's cover to confuse people. I'm pretty sure most people at my college would know what it is, but I don't know about the general population.

Very blasphemous stuff.

The FSM was born in a satirical letter Henderson sent last year to the Kansas Board of Education, which voted to teach alternatives to evolution in high school science classes. The vote was heralded as a victory for proponents of "intelligent design," who see the hand of an intelligent force rather than natural selection in the evolution of mankind. Intelligent-design advocates such as Lehigh University biochemist Michael Behe believe some biological structures, such as the wagging flagellum tail of some microbes, are too complex to have simply evolved.

I have never heard of FSM, but after reading this article I believe it is nothing more than a satirical view of a rather serious and important subject. I remember a similar uproar many moons ago about a poll in Australia, that was trying to decide what religions existed in that country, and a bunch of college students listed "Jedi" as their religion.

Do you really think it is necessary to actually dignify this nonsense with a tract? It might appeal to a select few, but I would not expect a wide general audience.

You scope is going to be limited to a rather techy/collegy crowd. I read /., so yes, I know about the FSM.

I would think you may actually do better with a web based thing. The crowd that knows FSM will prob not be reading too many tracts. A flash site where FSM faces off with God, now that has some potential. :saint

Aha, some interesting feedback. I live in the most liberal town in Kansas, so there's been some big hoopla over this due to the Kansas Board of Education's evolution debate (which has really proved meaningless for Christians anyway). Since the tract's focus is proving the Bible, I think it caters more to the "intellectual" crowd. I need to think about it. Maybe I can use the same material in a more general, straightforward Bible tract with something normal on the cover (like "Bible Evidences" or whatever).

And yes, FSM is ridiculous and stupid...And people are really into it for some stupid reason. Nothing new under the sun.

Ah yes I remember I was witnessing to some heathen and they referred me to this FSM. Im sure it wouldn't hurt to make a FSM tract, because if they havn't heard of the FSM the name itself is so ridiculous that I'm sure it would grab their attention. Either way God bless you as you continue to be faithful in being a part of sharing the Gospel to this lost and dieing world.

It may be a local thing then, and you would have more readership. Post it, I would like to read it when you are done.

Yes, I've heard of it and it is nothing more than a mockery of God.

Those who embrace this FSM thing, believe it, and spread it, have done so much blasphemy it is almost equivalent to the blasphemy of the Holy Ghost.

Well, sorry it's been so long...I tried to work some more on the tract, but it wasn't really working...It felt like the whole premise of the tract was a little dishonest. I went ahead and got rid of the flying-spaghetti-monster theme, and wrote a more straightforward tract on Bible prophecy, which also has the Gospel in it. I went with a Mona Lisa (Da Vinci Code) cover, which should be very appealing. It's called "What is Truth? A study in prophecy." I ended up spending over a month just trying to figure out Daniel 9:24-27. :) Tricky stuff.

Here's a link to it: http://tracts4god.googlepages.com/what_is_truth.pdf.
