I have been in churches where women say amen pretty loudly, others where they say it quietly, and still others where the women wave a hanky instead of saying amen. There are women in our church who will occasionally say amen -usually these are older women, and or women who have been in charismatic churches.

Personally, I don't feel comfortable saying amen. I don't even feel comfortable waving a hanky (I think that's too much of an attention getter, rather than affirming what the preacher is saying). So I just usually nod my head. I don't know that I would go so far as to say it's sin, but I do lean towards it being inappropriate.

:amen:

Hehe, Nope, I agree completely. I think women speak too freely in church services. I think they are supposed to speak through their husbands or if there is no husband, then ask the pastor later.

Its not my personality but I don't see anything wrong with a quiet murmured "amen"--anything more is at the very least, unladylike IMO...

I think the most appropriate "amen" I have ever seen (wasn't loud enough for me to hear) by a woman in church was a lady that, when hearing something she felt the desire to say "amen" on, would look at her husband and quietly murmur to him a soft "amen".

In such a case, either no one, or only someone very close would be able to hear such so there really should be no distraction or undue attention called by such a quiet "amen".

I agree with a quite amen.

Waving a hanky! NO!

I just wish more men would say, AMEN! And or, "That's right, Brother!"

Usually at funeral services I never hear a amen, unless its a quite amen said by some one setting close to me. Sometime back at a funeral service held at a church, one or maybe it was 2, I'm not sure, said several amens, no doubt in my mind, they said them after the pastors said appropriate words.

I recall well, back in the good old days you would hear amen said many times during a preaching service, as well as after someone sing a beautiful song.

I might add, I do remember several amens said after someone sing a beautiful song, even though they did not sing it beautifully.

I just don't care for the clapping of hands.

AGREED!

I've been in churches, and seen bits of church services on TV where the congregation claps over and over again as if they were watching sports. I've even heard whistling done in the manner they do at sporting events!

On top of that, you can sometimes clearly see the pastor working for the claps and cheers.

Kinda like the Pastors who shout "Can I get an amen?" :smile

"Let the women remain silent"

I know of a church in the Tampa, FL area that does not allow their women to speak from the moment they enter the building until they leave.

I have no problem with ladies saying amen, but I believe we should get back to what Scripture teaches and that is the raising of hands. We are afraid to do this out of fear of looking charismatic though.

HA Awesome. I always thought if ya gotta ask for it, then you probably don't deserve it.
