We have both turkey and ham. Since we have a lot of people over, we want to make sure there's something for everyone. Last year I did a bit pot of chili also, for eating later in the day. This year I might make sloppy joe meat. We spend the entire day, until late at night, so there has to be plenty of food.

Ham Sort of - A few weeks ago one of our larger hogs got to fighting with a smaller one and killed it before we could get them seperated. So I drained him and gutted and skinned him and left him hang for four days in our locker and then we put him in the freezer whole minus the head so we will be having whole roast hog this year.

We also have a nice Big Tom Turkey we have been growing up since this spring for Christmas dinner, I'll probably butcher him a day or two before.

I was raised in a reform Jewish home, so we pretty much had turkey for Thanksgiving--although I do remember one year my mother cooked a big fat ham for Thanksgiving. We all were shocked and asked "Where's the turkey?" when we saw that ham on the platter with those pineapple rings! We never had a ham after that!

I do eat ham, but prefer turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Down here in the delta of Mississippi, there are ALOT of pork eaters--but I'm not real fond of pork, but I will eat it occasionally. So, please pass the TURKEY and dressing! :cool

I prefer Turkey... and to avoid the dryness, I just get the dark meat. It has more flavor anyway. :smile

My oven is awful and I haven't been able to cook turkey for a long time in it. After a good 8 hours it still isn't cooked through. So, I switched to ham. But, last year, the kids really wanted turkey, so hubby sent me out to get a rotisserie oven. Beautiful tasty fast. :thumb

Your oven needs a good fixin'. :Green

***If it's not heating up fast enough. i.e. a dramatic slow=down, but still keeps accurate temperature then it's probably the element(s).

***If it doesn't keep accurate temperature, then it's probably the thermostat.

***If none of the stove burners or oven elements works fast enough you may have low line voltage.

Sometimes an electric range just gets too old and decrepit and needs a good throwin' away. :lol

I have never made a turkey that is dry .

My secret is those oven bags you place the turkey inside and you get a lot of juice .
