I know one preacher in the Bible that also wrote 2 books of the Bible and he had more than one wife. Say what you like, it is in the Bible.

1:1The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
1:2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
1:12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.

Yes he did, but he could not have been a New Testament pastor.

1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
1 Tim 3:1-2 (KJV)

And if you will do some more reading you will find that all of the wife's caused him many troubles.

Don't take one verse out of context and build doctrine or you will not have God's truth, but only that which you choose to accept.

And after all it does say let the man cleave to his wife, not his wife's, and it does say those 2 shall be on flesh, not those 3 or 4 or 5 or 6, only 3.

5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Matt 19:5-6 (KJV)

Yes, like Jerry says, a new testament preacher is to be the husband of ONE wife. And just because someone did something or said something in the Bible, doesn't mean it was right.

All those wives were Solomon's(the preacher's) downfall.
1Ki 11:3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
1Ki 11:4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, [that] his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as [was] the heart of David his father.

Any married man can tell you that one wife is more than enough! :Green

God did specifically command the kings not to have multiple wives (or to have lot's of horses...but that was another matter).

Bro John, do you know the scripture reference for this?

Bro John, do you know the scripture reference for this?

Deuteronomy 17:16 But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.

Deuteronomy 17:17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Matt 19:5-6 (KJV)

Verse 5, Shall cleave to his wife, no wifes.
Verse 6, the 2 shall be one flesh, not 3, not 4, not 5, but only 2.

2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
1 Cor 7:2 (KJV)

Every man have his own wife, not wifes

Also, every woman have her own husband, not husbands.

7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
Mark 10:7-8 (KJV)

Same as the verses in Matthew.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Gen 2:24 (KJV)

Shall cleave to his wife, not wife's, and of course the 2 shall be one.

Yes, God meant for man to have one wife, but of course some men are not happy with God's ways.

I have been doing a lot of reading especially in 1 Samuel and noticed that David had more than one wife and I also know that Jacob had more than one wife. Why is that it was kind of confusing but I guess that is what they did back then right? Am I right?

Yes they did, however Christ specifically condemns it.

"But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery." (Matthew 5:32)
