They're trying to get our town's manger scene removed, thanks to the efforts of an editor at our local newspaper. One guy being interviewed, in the following report, says "the Bill of rights exists to protect the minority from the tyranny of the  majority"....But I always thought it was to protect the majority from the elite few....

...and this is the local editor who contacted the "Freedom From Religion Foundation"....

It's actually there to protect the people of the US from the overweening power of the federal government.  Using it to try and remove a nativity scene is unconstitutional at best.  Here are some links from which you might glean some info to write a letter to the editor if you are so inclined.  http://www.forbes.com/sites/billflax/2011/07/09/the-true-meaning-of-separation-of-church-and-state/

It's likely all stuff you've already read, heard, or know.

So having a manger scene is an example of tyranny of the majority over the minority?

Of course...
Because we all know the vast numbers of Christian fundamentalists out there who are ramming their religion onto those poor, few, neglected atheists.

Actually, since so many Christians, including fundamentalists, so openly and clearly yoked themselves to the Republican Party and made their biblical views a matter of partisan politics, many atheists, liberals and others view Christian fundamentalists as attempting to force their views upon everyone through politics.

Yet, apparently, they do. There's no need to say stuff like that. It's unnecessarily combative. There is nothing unScriptural with a manger scene; yet, if people feel there is something wrong with it, they have the liberty to eschew them.
