The Lords Supper Should Be Done Right

My church observes The Lord's Supper once a month.  Another local IFB church observes it when the pastor believes it's necessary, according to the Holy Spirit.  Sometimes that is only 3-4 times a year, if that.

We generally do it once per month, but less or more as I feel led, Sometimes the brethren need to remember more often what the Lord did for them. I try not to make it too routine when I do it-I will read the passages, and then speak on it a little to try and bring the realities closer to their hearts.

 

I have thought about doing a foot-washing ceremony just to teach them the lesson jesus taught, which was to serve one another, by doing for each person something very humbling to the performer. I heard a message where he told about a preacher who would weekly collect up the shoes of all the members and shine them for Sunday to stay humble.

We partake of the Lord's Supper the first Sunday of each month.

At my church here in Ohio we have it quarterly, and it is close communion.

My old church back in Missouri we did it whenever the pastor was lead to, typically once or twice a year and it was closed communion.

Just an observation and suggestion:

 

In most foot washing services that I'm familiar with the people came with feet trimmed, perfumed, painted, etc (4-H ready).

 

If you intend to preach and exhibit dying to self in humility while esteeming each better than oneself -- don't announce the date ahead of time.
