We hand out little bags that contain candy and also a Chick tract. We have bags with tracts geared for younger children and then bags for the older kids.

what is a chick tract?

John(?) Chick - produced comic book style tracts. Some are really good, some are a bit average. (Like everyone's stuff...)
Can be useful in the right setting.

Never taken part. Likely because it is not heavily participated in in Australia

So I can safely say I had never sinned.

Or maybe me standing at my front door  :knuppel:  may suggest otherwise.

I do that some years.  I love the Chick tracts for Halloween.  We don't give out candy, anymore.  We don't have many kids and I have never liked this holiday, even before I was a Christian.  Tonight, we will order Chinese food, shut off all the lights and head to the back of the house and watch a good movie.  Sounds like a plan to me.

Sounds like a very good plan!

I don't care for Halloween. One year we passed out candy and tracts but only a handful of kids stopped by and even less are out these days so we never did that again. We just stay in.

Yep:)  That's how it is in my neighborhood, John.  Less and less children come out each year.  Parents will take them to Harvest parties, instead.  That is so much better, IMO.  A new couple moved in on our street, with 2 young children this year.  I don't know if they will be out or not.  I hesitated ordering Chick tracts for Halloween, but Joe said he would rather shut down the house.  We do that some years.  I am fine with Joe's idea, b/c we end up eating the leftover candy, anyway.  ;)

That year we had candy and tracts and only a handful showed up left us with A LOT of leftover candy. The tracts left over were easy to deal with and could be used whenever, but the candy either has to be eaten or tossed out and it seems such a waste to trash it so we ended up eating way more candy than we needed, or even wanted.

Even in this small town their is a haunted house the kids go to, one of the churches holds a harvest celebration and sometimes there is another thing going on.

When I was a small child it was a big deal to go get some candy, and they gave out full sized candy bars back then and our bags were quickly filled! Today most kids have everything they want already so it's not that much of a treat, other than the dressing up for some, to go out knocking for candy.

I would be happy to see this "holiday" die out.

We have had that happen many times.  We have a lot of leftover Halloween Chick tracts and much leftover candy.  There are some haunted houses in the greater metropolitan area, as well.  I have been witnessing to a girl in town, who works at one of these haunted houses.  It is called, "7 Layers of Hell."  She has dabbled in the occult for a long time.  Her stepmother does Tarot cards and all kinds of demonic things.  I have shared with her what it says in the Book of Deuteromony.  I don't know if what I have given her has penetrated her heart.  Also, she is on all kinds of pychiatric medication.  I have mentioned that it could be b/c of her occult activity.  She agreed with me, but still works at the haunted house.

Many families take their young children to Harvest parties.  However, the older children, teens and young adults still do all the creepy things associated with this holiday.  Adults, dress up too.  Drunk drivers are on the road, during this time, as well.

Yeah, back when we were kids, the holiday was different.  Still too many weirdos come out in the month of October, and will poison candy and put razor blades in them.  I really think parents, of young children, have realized that it isn't worth it to risk sending your kid out, thus putting them in danger.  It would be so nice if this holiday would "die out."

Even in this small town where everyone is probably safe, I still wouldn't risk a child out alone on Halloween.

It seems these days adults get more into Halloween than do the kids. There are a lot of adult Halloween parties and events now and I don't remember any such thing when I was a child or even until not that many years ago.

Many adults use Halloween as an excuse to sin, as if they needed an excuse, but in their mind their behavior is excused because it's a holiday :icon_rolleyes: It's a time the women can dress extra trampy and it's seen as okay, and the guys can be extra gross and vulgar, everyone can get drunk and follow their flesh. Tomorrow they will laugh it all of as "holiday fun and the booze caused it" and everyone will play the game and wait for next years flesh parties.

One of the local churches has a harvest fest or fall fest or whatever they call it. Sometimes they have "trunk and treat", sometimes a bonfire, food and games. Some years it does draw a decent crowd, but all too often when many leave they go out and indulge in the stupid stuff.

Our church doesn't participate in such things. Our position is that we don't approve of the "holiday" but we aren't going to raise a big fuss about it and draw even more attention to the "holiday".

Sadly, many adults don't know Christ as Personal Saviour and do not know that it is a sin.  I have a problem with worldly Christians, who were once in IFB churches, that celebrate this holiday.  It seems like in the USA, every holiday is used as an excuse to get drunk and act foolish.  St. Patrick's Day comes to mind.  People don't even know the rich history on "St. Patrick."  They have no idea that he was a Bible believing Christian.

Where I grew up younger children went 'trick-or-treating' and older children went 'bag-snatching'. Most kids didn't bother with either, of course, as they were too busy getting ready for fireworks-through-letterbox night on November 5th.

Aah, traditions eh...  :scratchchin:

Hmmm - bag-snatching...that sounds like something older siblings would do (as in my older brother had he thought of it...).  And the fireworks-through-letterbox sounds like something that might catch on here....Many's the time we've opened the library box to find objectionable things.  Fireworks that didn't work, animal body parts....some people just have no respect...

Our town does a special 2 hour business trick or treat so the parents can bring the kids out in the daylight and go to the businesses.  That is along with regular trick or treating.

As I mentioned earlier, we will be at church tonight.  If it's a non-church night, we are usually gone anyway.  On Wednesdays, we are out visiting.  On Tuesdays, we have our date night.  Other nights are busy, too.

We always keep our flag out and our porch light on....we need to bring in the flag and shut off the light til after church tonight.
