I don't know. I suppose there must have been a town called Little Hope and the church is named after it.

The name would sound much better if it was just Hope, Big Hope, or Much Hope.

Perhaps the one who founded the town just had little hope, so he named the town Little Hope, which I suppose is better than no hope. Wow, can't you just see it, a church called No Hope Baptist Church? That surely would top Little Hope as being a bad name for a church.

That is true, and at the moment they selected the name it prOBably did not register to them that the name ought not be associated with one of Jesus' Churches.

They name the church after the street then grow and have to relocate to a bigger lot. Now the name does not apply.

When I moved to NC some years ago it took me forever to realize that Wake Forest university wasn't at Wake Forest - it's at Winston Salem. The university originally was at Wake Forest but moved.

I Folkestone there is a Grace Baptist Church on Grace Hill. The Church is relatively new, but Grace hill is old. It just happens that the Baptist Church is a member of the Grace Baptist Association.

My Great Grandparents were married in St Mary's Baptist Church, Norwich. The Church was named after the street the Church was in. St Mary's Road.

The Roman Catholic Church in Renningham, Germany is in Martin Luther Strasse which caused some amusement to our family.

Kind of like the county store my grandfather built in the 30's, it was a rock building and called McCrary's Station. My father tore in down in 1947, built the new store out of tile, named it the Rock Service Station. For several years for most people around here that made sense. But after a few generations people would wonder, why does a tile building carry such a name?

Only one church in Liberal, Kansas, adopted the city's name: Liberal Friends Church. There are about eight Baptist churches there, including the 1st Baptist Church and the 1st Southern Baptist Church -- I wonder if the "philosophies" of any of the Baptist churches matches the city's name?

Does Liberal Baptist Church in Liberal Kansas live up to its name?

Never really thought about this until this topic came up. I suppose there is many churches out there which have some names that really not good for one of Jesus' Churches.

I know a church that used to be called Non Missionary Baptist Church. They are across the street from Non Freewill Baptist Church. The first one changed their name to Landmark Missionary Baptist of Non. They are named after what was the town they are in. Non Oklahoma.
