This cat was outside our door and seemed hungry so we fed it. It has come back ever since. We now have it inside. It is declawed. We are looking for the owners but today we noticed that she had something white on her hind in. It looked like mozzerella cheese. Well before I could take it off and examine it, the dog ate it. After awhile, she had another on her hind in. Well, she finally went poop and we examined it and found a white worm moving in it. It was a little larger than a maggot. Does anyone know what types of worms these are? We are taking her in to the vet tomorrow.

I don't think it's heartworm, they don't come out the butt. They're called "heart"worm for a reason. :P

Check this out:

I looked it up, and I find that it more likely Roundworms as it told me that heartworm does not show up in bowel movement. I just assume because our pet had heartworm according the vet and I experienced the same thing. More likely she may have heartworm as well.

round worms are extremely common and look like spaghetti
tapeworms break off in segments and can look like little grains of rice. There are other types of worms too. Try and take a fresh, um, "sample" in to the vet with you so he/she can put it under the microscope and tell you what your cat has. It will help them to find the best course of treatment........some worm medication works better on some than others. Good luck.

Well, she just had a couple coming out of her hind end by themselves. I gathered them up and put them in a plastic baggie. Hopefully they will still be good tomorrow as she only seems to go to the bathroom at night time. I am not going to lie, but it is pretty disgusting especially to a germ fanatic like me.

HAHAHA
Just one of the reasons I can't, for the life of me, comprehend why anyone could let a dog lick their face.

NO kidding!!!! ewwwww!!!!!!!!!!!

Amblivion, if you take in a bm sample, the vet will check it under the microscope for eggs and he will be able to tell if there are other kinds of worms as well to determine the best course of treatment. The poor things must be pretty sick. They have a lot of info about this stuff on-line. If you are a major germ freak like I am, it will creep you out totally, but at least you'll be informed.

Just reading this thread for the first time...wildly inappropriate time, as I am getting ready to eat lunch! Ugh!

While you're getting the cat checked for worms, it might be a good idea to check it for feline leukemia. That's kinda common in strays. (and kudos to you for taking it in!)

What is even worse is that the little dog eats her poop. The first day we had the cat we had to brush his teeth because cat litter was stuck to his gums. DISGUSTING!!

Yeah I have looked a lot of it up online. I have decided that it is prOBably what everyone else is saying, tapeworm. Soooooo gross. I am totally freaked out by it. I have vacuumed and will continue to. Who knows where these little segments are landing. What is really grossing me out is she slept on my bed a lot. I have already washed my sheets and have not allowed her back on my bed. Now I am paranoid that I am going to get tapeworm. I have already washed my hands like ten times today and used hand sanitizer about twenty. Worms are disgusting.

It sounds like tape worm to me. They look like flat maggots and come out the hind end quite often. They are segments that break off. The main tapeworm could be many feet long. The vet can give the cat medicine and the cat will pass the worm. Make sure to watch the cat carefully. We had a puppy once that had a tapeworm and the medicine made her pass it. She strung it all over the yard!!! She never had any more prOBlems with it. CJP56.
