NINE ? ! ?

GREAT SCOTT !

My wife and I did well, with God's help, to raise TWO! (She had her tubes tied after the 2nd one, but we were 38 years old.)

(I thought only Catholix had armies of kids nowadays!)

Many people do who are not RCC, roby. I have several friends who have 8, 9, 10 and 11 kids. And could still have more - even though they are beyond 38.

Well, I DO hope all turns out well...but as for having a whole tribe of kids, even if a couple has no financial worries, do they have enough ATTENTION to go around?

My late mom-in-law had a lifelong falling-out with her sister over this, but her sis was RC. She had ELEVEN kids, and chided my mom-in-law, who was a Baptist, for having her tubes tied after FIVE.(My wife is the eldest; the others are men.) The last 4 of my wife's cousins ended up jailbirds from using/dealing dope; two subsequently died from ODs. My wife's aunt & uncle just didn't have enuff ATTENTION to spread among 11 kids, let alone MONEY. They lived from pay to pay.

I believe GOD is telling a couple something when they have X number of kids & are at the end of their financial and attention-giving tethers. God can communicate in many, many ways, and this is one of them. Now, while my wife & i coulda afforded more kids, the two we had were rough, rowdy boys who needed LOTS of love, attention, correction, & guidance to become Christians and productive citizens. I dunno how successful we mighta been with any more.

PB, I hope your "baseball team" all grow to be Christians, your new "shortstop" and your wife remain healthy, and that you don't have the typical "Preacher's Kidzz"!

:bleh: I happen to know of several good families with a very well behaved "army of kids"--you just need to get out more, Robycop. :icon_biggrin: (and none of them are RC)

Been out quite a bit in my 61 years...seen the underbelly of society from a cop's, & a paramedic's pointa view, and looked back on it from a CHRISTIAN perspective. And I know that a whole army of kids in one family being "well-behaved" is the exception rather than the rule. Some folx have ignored God's "stop" sign.

Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, Robycop, but it is just that.............an opinion. I know that some parents with a large brood may just "let them run", but many of the ones that I have known do not, and in fact are quite the opposite, having well behaved, well mannered and well adjusted children. As I tell other people, it only takes ONE child to throw a tantrum, I wouldn't trade my well-behaved brood for the often seen bratty one or two children that I see most mothers toting around in public these days. As far as "stop signs".......hey, when God closes the womb, now that's a stop sign. :icon_mrgreen:

Well, thanx for your opinion, even though we disagree on some points. I believe my wife and I made the right decision to quit at two kids, but GOD has different plans for other couples.

I'll close by saying that if a couple cannot see any way to afford another child, or it takes a vast amounta their time to properly raise those they already have, I don't believe they should have any more, at least at the time. They could always either have more later, or adopt. But just going ahead & having one anyway, saying "God will provide" is, IMO, TEMPTING GOD, and could lead to a lotta pain & regret.

Roby, we probably agree more than you think, I believe that whatever a married couple decides, they should have a clear conscience before the Lord that they believe they did what would please Him. Sounds like you and your wife thought that you were doing just that. I don't believe God has asked everyone to raise as many children as they can muster as if they are in a competition or something. My hubby and I are quite aware that we are accountable for every little one under our roof, and we don't take that responsibility lightly.

P.S. Congratulations, Preacher Ben and family! What a wonderful blessing!!
