Does anyone know if you can keep drinking all those teas while pregnant? I've been really careful and I haven't had any coffee.

Is It Safe to Take Herbal Supplements and Teas During Pregnancy?

More than 400 different herbs are commonly used to treat or prevent a variety of conditions. They are sold in many forms, including teas, tablets, capsules and extracts.

Herbal supplements are not necessarily safe to take during pregnancy, however. The safety and effectiveness of herbal supplements have not been studied, especially during pregnancy. The March of Dimes recommends that pregnant women avoid them. The only supplement the March of Dimes does recommend is a multivitamin with at least 400 micrograms of folic acid.

Herbal preparations are classified as dietary supplements by the Food and Drug Administration and are not regulated like conventional drugs. Manufacturers are not required to follow any standard quality controls, nor do they have to perform safety or effectiveness studies before marketing their products. As a result, the quality and strength of an herbal supplement can vary greatly between two batches of the same product and between products from different manufacturers. Some preparations may interact with other medications, potentially making them less active or less safe.

Herbal teas can be soothing, and pregnant women bothered by nausea and vomiting may be tempted to use them. But they should not be taken without the advice of a health care provider. Large amounts of some herbal teas, including peppermint and red raspberry leaf, are thought to cause uterine contractions and may increase the risk of miscarriage or preterm labor. This also is true of many herbal tablets, capsules and extracts, including black or blue cohosh, ephedra, dong quai, feverfew, juniper, pennyroyal, St. John's wort, rosemary and thuja.

Lol I guess I will talk to the midwife, she is a natural health nutritionist too. I'm not talking about herbal stuff you buy in a bottle, I'm talking about making my own, which you can do.

Shhhh Katy-Anne don't say anything about sweet tea in the South, that is still a hanging offense in some places

Man, I love Southern Iced Tea.

Tea in India is super sweet. Very high on sugar content. It's more sugar than tea!

Eww. Sweet tea is so incredibly awful.

I agree, I do enjoy Iced tea unsweetened though. as for herbal teas, my girls and I enjoy them and I do believe they are safe. I know that one called rasberry leaf tea from tradicinal medicials (sp) is very good for us. It aids in helping female organs do there job better, and may make for an easier delivery.

I generally like iced black tea lightly sweetened like my mom and grandmother make. At restaurants I usually get unsweetened tea with lemon but I will put a little sugar in sometimes if it is too strong. :)

There isn't really a recipe for it. I think it is basically ground up job's tears though there very well may be other ingredients. I really couldn't tell you though cause you buy it in powder form.

When I go to Korea this year I will be stocking up on it so if you want I can pick you up a bag or so and ship it to you when I come back. :)

One bag should last between 6 months and a year depending on how much you drink.

In the summer I trade in the :coffee for a big mug of Ice Tea. UN-sweetened.

If you want those adoption papers to go through you'll have to work on that. I think it is a requirement that every citizen of Georgia has to drink at least 1 glass of sweet tea every day in the summer. Somethnig like that anyway I have to check the laws. :duh

I think in North Carolina, you have to carry a glass of sweet tea everywhere you go during the summer. Sigh, these Midwesterners just don't get sweet tea.

Nothing surpasses the wonderful taste of a glass of cold SWEET tea!!!!

I forgot and when I went home to visit in Indiana... I ordered tea...... YUCK!!!! They do not sweeten their tea....
It was not until we hit Kentucky on the way home that I was able to get sweet tea.
