Members Maxmya Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 My wife majored in piano at Bob Jones University, so I got to love classical music there along with sacred Christian music. I love the hymns by Fanny Crosby and John Wesley which glorified God! Music should exalt Jesus Christ! I also like the music performed in the show Faith for the Family which used to air on Saturday night in Greenville, S.C. :bonK: Quote
Members kevinmiller Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 Beethoven is okay. In the classical genre, I would have to say that my favorite piece is probably Pachelbel's Canon in D. I primarily use classical music when studying, working, or to wake up to in the morning. Because of the lack of words, I don't differentiate between most songs. :frog Quote
Members John81 Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 I enjoy a lot of classical music but I'm not familiar with all the details. Quote

I've heard so many versions of it (like done at different speeds or with different sets of instruments) and it just never loses it's awesomeness. :smile Oh, and I know many of you probably haven't seen it, but the movie August Rush has some really awesome classical music! I bet the soundtrack is going to be great! (all the movie review sites will tell you it's got some questionable content, but I don't remember anything bad in it at all.. besides the idea that he was born out of wedlock, but it doesn't promote that, it just shows where this genius boy came from) Quote
Members kevinmiller Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 I'm planning on seeing it, all of my students have already seen it just about. lol There were a few cuss words in it, though, so I'll wait until it's out on DVD so that we can watch it with our TVG. Quote
Members dadof4 Posted January 6, 2008 Members Posted January 6, 2008 I love Adigio for Strings! Very sombre. Quote
Members kevinmiller Posted January 6, 2008 Members Posted January 6, 2008 Never heard of it, is it good for stings? :lol Quote

Oh, and there's a teensy little bit of rock music in it, but that's because the boy's daddy is a rock singer (at the beginning of the movie) but it only shows that a little bit. It's not focused on the rock music at all and the boy doesn't learn to play rock music. Btw, have you heard of Andy McKee? Do a search on Youtube.. he plays with just the guitar and the boy on August Rush does sort of the same thing when he gets a guitar. Quote
Guest Guest Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I used to like classical music, but I got convicted that it was just appealing to my flesh as surely as rock ect. appealed to the flesh of others. Although perhaps not wicked, it was just vanity and weariness of the bones... I like music to much to "waste" it on nothing. Personally, I feel that music is dedicated to God and him alone and I will use it for nothing else. Thats just me though. :Green Quote
Members kevinmiller Posted January 6, 2008 Members Posted January 6, 2008 That's cool, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I haven't heard of that guy, I'll have to check him out sometime. :smile Quote
Members 5dumplings@home Posted January 6, 2008 Members Posted January 6, 2008 As for me, give me Pathtique any day. Mmmmm, yummy. Quote
Members matie-k Posted January 7, 2008 Members Posted January 7, 2008 Bach's "Sheep May Safely Graze" is one of my all-time favorites. Quote
Members war_eagle Posted January 7, 2008 Members Posted January 7, 2008 My grandmother was a classically trained pianist and violinist, so I grew up listening to a lot of classical music (among other things). I don't listen to much classical now, but when I do open mic nights, sometimes I'll play Mozart's Allegro on guitar, Dave Edmunds style, while I stall to think of another song to play. Quote
Administrators HappyChristian Posted January 7, 2008 Administrators Posted January 7, 2008 I enjoy most classical music. I like Pachobel's Canon - used to have it as a ringtone. Handel's Messiah is one of my favorites, and I really like Ravel's Bolero. Quote
