Members Ann B Posted February 13, 2023 Members Posted February 13, 2023 G'day folks, I have a request regarding IB mission groups and recommendations. I am a registered nurse working in a local medical clinic. I am struggling and feeling burdened to step out and bring my nursing abroad. I desire to be involved in some sort of mission work where my nursing skill can be of use and spreading the Gospel. Of utmost importance: It must be through a solid Independent Baptist mission group/association work. Could anyone recommend any IB mission associations in USA ? I am prayerfully searching. I'd be encouraged if anyone could help point me in the right direction. It will be such a blessing to my church family and myself to be able to move forward. In Christ, Ann swathdiver 1 Quote

Administrators Jim_Alaska Posted February 13, 2023 Administrators Posted February 13, 2023 Not trying to be contentious here, but I have to wonder at a seeming "contradiction of terminology" As most here know, I am solid Independent Baptist; as such I have to wonder at the terms, Independent, association, group. To my mind these three terms denote something other than "Independent Baptist." Conventions, associations, groups, conferences and fellowships are not Independent. Disciple.Luke and DaveW 1 1 Quote

Administrators Jim_Alaska Posted February 14, 2023 Administrators Posted February 14, 2023 Thanks Salyan. I'm not opposed to your suggestion at all. The reason I posted what I did here was because I thought it relevant to the OP since she posted her topic as an Independent Baptist, on an Independent Baptist message board; while at the same time specifically asking for advice about something that contradicts and is the opposite of Independent Baptist. She says "Of utmost importance: It must be through a solid Independent Baptist " and then goes on to say in the same sentence, "mission group/association work." There is no middle ground; it is either Independent or it isn't. The biblical example for mission work is to be sent out of a local Baptist church, which no association can claim to be. Quote
Moderators Salyan Posted February 14, 2023 Moderators Posted February 14, 2023 But not all IFB hold to that particular definition. For example, I’m not against a particular IFB church creating its own mission agency, to provide logistical support to missionaries that may then be supported by a variety of churches who have each individually decided to support that missionary. Like Canamera Missions out of Pembina Valley Baptist Church in Winkler, MB. I could see someone describing that as a mission group. And it sounds like there is a local church involved here that doesn’t know how to move forward on its own - exactly the situation in which help from a more experienced sending church is desirable. In any case, we understood the request even while potentially disagreeing with the mechanics. So the terminology debate is moot. Ann B 1 Quote

Hello Ann, Our church has been supporting Kristine McLaughlin over in the Ivory Coast, West Africa for a long time. She is a nurse and could give you guidance or ask you to join her! Our church also supports BIMI http://www.bimi.org/ Bob and Patsy Green would be another great resource to contact. http://www.bimi.org/content/abGreen.php Edited February 15, 2023 by swathdiver Ann B 1 Quote

Members TheGloryLand Posted October 19, 2023 Members Posted October 19, 2023 (edited) I went back to history search looking for mission posts. I ran into this one, amazing how some people are here very friendly, then they’re gone. It’s like first time visitors to a church. They visit 2 time's, and then gone with the wind. Some come just to get a few answers, not to take up residency. Staying isn't a compulsion, but rather a choice. Quote
