Two Men in One Bed?

What gives with Luke 17:34? Why would Jesus use this example when the Scriptures clearly state that two men shouldn't lie together?

Luk 17:34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
Luk 17:35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Luk 17:36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

These verses are not dealing with the rapture but the judgement after the tribulation period. Remember when Jesus told the disciples in Mathew 13 that at the end of the world the angels would separate the tares from the wheat.

Matthew 13:49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just.

I do not believe there are any sexual overtones implied in the verses because they could apply to brothers or friends. Even today it is not unusual for two men or two women to sleep in the same bed for economy while travelling or going to conferences.

Exactly, compare this passage to the end of the Tribulation and you will find that the one taken is taken to the valley of Megiddo. The one left makes it to the Millennium. We don't want to be either.

Years ago, when people didn't even think about homosexuality, it wasn't seen as gross to sleep with another guy in the same bed. They still do it sometimes in Korea if they need to. They don't have the problems with homosexuality there that we have here.

I know when our youth group goes on trips and stays in a hotel we have separate rooms for boys and girls, of course, but in those rooms there are two in a bed. otherwise the trip would be twice as expensive.

While I agree with the take on cultural differences; your statement that "people didn't even think about homosexuality" would seem to be contradicted by the book of Romans (among other books in the Bible).

I could be extremely wrong in interpreting what he said, but it seems to me he is referring to the fact that no one was worried about what their motives would be taken as. While homosexuality was still frowned upon and considered an abomination, situations such as this one weren't taken to represent homosexuality. I could be wrong, but that is what i understood.

If you were to examine the passage and look at the word lie in the original greek you will find that it has sexual overtones.

If You are speaking of Luke 17:34 the word "lie" doe not appear in the text.

Men is not in the text. Nor is women in verse 35 or Men in verse 36. Gender of the rest of the statement is used to determine if men or Women was used, but (like most modern translations) leaving it out of the sentence is perfectly fine. "on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left" is technically more accurate word for word.

Edit to add: of course the KJV is fine in its rendering. The meaning is clear, and I agree with the other statements where there is no sexual connotations here.

In Greek there are at least two words that were translated into our one word, "man" or "men". Anthropos means people and includes women. Here is an example of anthropos being used and translated as men:
