Good Morning All

The day before last I was at a Christian bookstore in NH and purchased a "Evidence Bible". I was curious if any of you had heard of it in your journeys and if so what are some of your thoughts concerning it. Granted it said KJV on there or "Comfort-Able KJV". I read through a few places thus far and it seems they only change the "thee's" and "thou's " to "you", etc. The Bible was put together by http://www.wayofthemaster.com Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. I have a problem with even changing the pronouns and verb forms from the original KJV to modern English in that it strips much of the meaning, since our modern English lacks the clarity of KJV English. It also follows the mode of thinking: "easier is better", when reading the original KJV really isn't that hard, and one has to wonder about the spiritual maturity of someone who refuses to use a more accurate English translation because it's slightly harder to read.

While I would tend to "technically agree with you" Kevin, I will say that when the word "thee" is used in reference to addressing God it does have that certain ring of majesty that God deserves, which the word "you" in today's language just doesn't have!

Kevin I have admit she might be right. I hope for now on when she prays she uses "thee" and "thy" so God can get more glory than just rather using "you", or "your". Silly isnt it? Granted it has a wonderful ring to it, but God is more concerned with the state of your heart rather than your lip service.

Danny I applaud you for trying to sound sophicated. I am sorry to inform you though changing "thee" and "thou" does not alter the text. I am a KJV only and cling to only it for I believe it is God's perserved word in the English tongue. Granted if one was to change "begotten" to "one and only", then we might have a problem, but that is not the case. As far as the KJV being hard to understand for some people in the world today. The only way I can see that happening is when one isnt use to using "archaic" words in their everyday conversations. Once those words are learned and the meaning, the KJV is very simple and easy to understand and clear. So with this one I will have to agree with Kevin.........



P.S. How many of you in here use " archaic" in your daily conversations or when you pray?

While I don't use "thee","thou", or "anon" - I use such archaic terms as "quick" for "alive" (as in I broke the nail off into the quick) and "tell" for "count" since at the bank I never give my money to the counter but to the teller.

As for the technical precision of "ye", "you", "thee", and "thou" verses "you", "you", "you", and "you" - modern "proper" English makes no distinction between singular and plural except if denoted in context. If singular is used (applicable to the person directly spoken to) and plural is also used (to included other within hearing, though not directly addressed) within the same sentance, "you" as used today does not make that distinction (I use "yall"[contraction of ye all -originally a New England term, not a Southern one], but that's not considered proper).

Exactly! The "thees" and "thous" are there for a reason. They should not be taken out.
