More trivia. I live three miles from the village of Teversham, where Spurgeon first preached, and 6 miles from Waterbeach, where he was first pastor.

I live in Idaho.

I don't think anything of any real historical value has ever happened in Idaho.

Well, the Great Seal of Idaho was designed in 1890 by Mrs. Emma Edwards Green. It is the only Great Seal in the 50 states to be designed by a woman. That is of some (minor) historical significance.

And then there's the Fosbury Flop, a high jumping technique invented by Ketchum, Idaho resident Dick Fosbury.

And before anyone thinks I am some miraculous repository of arcane knowledge for all things Idaho, I must confess--I conducted a Google search for "fun Idaho facts" and found these. Google knows all!

Given the amount of nonsense and negativity I have read here regarding the men of the Lord that go out there to do His bidding, preaching at true Christian churches, rebuking heathens, and doing street preaching, I figured we need a good example of how to properly preach. Let's start from the pulpit. Here is an account from a fellow pastor of mine, and a few good anti-abortion preaching techniques:

I do have a question. If Dixon is a pastor, why does he call himself Deacon Dixon instead of Pastor Dixon?

Am I hearing this "Calvinist" correctly? "Men who preach such sermons is [sic] what brings people to the Lord"??? "and keeps them"??? I must say that no Calvinist I have ever known would stand for this kind of man-centered theology. "Men...are what [sic] bring people to the Lord"? "Men...keep them"? I'm pretty sure John Calvin himself would have a few things to say about these ideas.

Have you read any of Edwards' preaching (which he read in a monotone)? No sensationalism...no theatrics...no bragging...no singling out and embarrassing people...just some effective, appropriate use of word pictures that helped to clarify his message. Bloody chicken gizzards? Rusty forceps? Any props whatsoever? Ranting about political activism? I'll let you answer.

Are you for real, "Thomas Cooper?"

I am a true Christian, so yes, I am for real. Edwards did not need to use such "fiery" techniques. His preaching was enough for the elect to hear His calling. And it was enough to instill fear of the Lord into the people. In these last days, we do have to work harder.

Why?

Will the elect not hear if we don't?

So, you're not a Calvinist.

We need to use the techniques in these last days. We need to use these techniques so that all the elect will get elected. If we don't the elected will never get elected, and that would be a really BIG prOBlem.

Of course he is. I've said before that he is akin to Fred Phelps. Mr. Cooper sounds like a Primitive aka Old School Baptist.

Phelps is not a Bible-believer, hence he's not a Christian. I, on the other hand, am a true Christian, Praise! As true Christians, we follow the Bible completely and unconditionally, without any interpretation or apologetics. Glory!

I tend to agree with this. The Lord works largely through His followers. It is our jOB to net in the Elect, by all means possible.
