Hi! I wanted to make this thread to get your opinions on fantasy-related entertainment, by this I'm referring to books, videos, cartoons, etc.
Where do you draw the line? Many books containing the fantasy element have these beings which are not human as main characters(for instance, pagan deities, aliens, elfs, fairies) and the story revolves around them.
Would it be acceptable to read or watch a story with something like that?

It depends. I don't see any way how having other "gods" can be acceptable, rather than having God Himself in the world, and then the lord of evil, Satan (in my ideas/stories God is "Jehovah" and Satan is "Asmodeus").

If they're in other worlds, and not this one, it can be fine, minus the above. Like elves, dwarves, dragons, etc.
God bless,
Joel.

Being entertained by some form of media that involves the occult, magic, and paganism in some form (including C.S. Lewis and Tolkien) cannot be pleasing to the Lord, as He clearly speaks against all these things in His Word. Magic/occult/paganism is NEVER shown in a positive light in the Bible. The NT teaches that what we think in our hearts, we are guilty of (such as lust being equal to adultery in our hearts, hatred equated with murder in our hearts, etc.). Romans 1:31 is an interesting verse when we apply it in this area.

Avatar came to mind. It's prOBably border-line fantasy (more so sci-fi). It gets into the natives viewing nature as their deity. But all through the movie, we as the viewer sees it from a human, scientific perspective. I won't be one that condemns the movie for it, but some might.

That movie is totally New Age and promotes worshipping and praying to Mother nature/the earth/planet.

Jerry, I assume by your comments you did not like the movie. It's too bad to spend the kind of money they ask for at a movie theater these days and then have it be like that. I agree, that if Avatar promotes those things it is wrong and should not be considered Godly entertainment.

I did not see it, but I was doing some research into it because I heard it was really good graphics and in 3D. But when I heard some of the junk in it, I decided that it would be better to avoid that one.
