Has anyone used this curriculum before? We have a 7,5, 4, & 2 year old. Our 7 year old is Autistic. We are new to homeschooling, and were wondering what you thought. We have found, through research, that it is definitely the most cost effective in comparison with all of the other well known curriculums. It is KJV, but how well is the material presented, and is it hard to navigate one's way around the material? I was looking through the PACES material of another church member, and found it difficult to figure out what to tell her to do. Thanks.

My girlfriend is beginning a new job as a fourth grade teacher at a Christian School, and she is trying to come up with ideas to decorate her classroom. She is looking for something that would be appropriate for both boys and girls. Anyone have any ideas

We're trying to find books, and when I was doing the homeschooling I never needed a teacher's edition, because I knew almost everything they were being taught, and when something occasionally came by I didn't know, I could find it within seconds skimming the reading they had been assigned. This was with Abeka. So with BJU Homesat, are they given assignments every day, and will those need to be graded? Exactly how needed are the teacher's editions in the later years (we'll have kids in 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th)

We are through w/ our books, except for Math and Spelling. We will do those all through out the summer. However, everything else is done. The problem is by law, I still have another 45 days to teach. Unit studies? Field trips? any creative ideas?

We were asking around at church about BJU HoneSat, and it turns out several famlies had used it and no longer needed the equipment. We now have the dish and receiver. This week I'm going to try to see if I can get it mounted (we live in a mobile home, so I'm not sure the best way to do that). The instructions seem simple enough, but I'm still wondering what we'd pick up without actually having registered with them yet. Will the set-up get a signal, or do we have to wait until we get enrolled first?

Check it out at http://HomeschoolFind.com I was browsing through Craig's List when it occured to me that it'd be nice to have a site like that just for homeschoolers. I'll be promoting it next week so there'll be lots more traffic, especially if people spread the word.

if it isn't ok to post this here, PLEASE forgive me and let me know and I'll edit it ASAP!! I have theAbeka K5 homeschool teacher's edition and the student workbook. there are about 15 pgs done in the workbook, so that can be a "freebie". $5 takes both. Bob Jones Science and History grades 1 and 2 $5 each all books were used when I bought them, but are in "good" condition.

I thought we were making progress with my 5th grader and her math, but her achievement test returned and she's still in the hole. She tested at a third grade level. So, I'm thinking LifePac to get her caught up, but maybe you all have suggestions on better math resources.

He was doing his subtraction page in his work book (100 problems per page) and was getting close to being done when I went in to check on him. When I looked at his work, he had been adding instead of subtracting. We made him erase it al and start over. While he did complain a little, we told him he needs to pay attention to the directions. He did the work correctly pretty quickly.

NC law states that homeschoolers age 7 and over have to be given an achievement test every year. I knew that. :Green Here's what I didn't know... each test for each child costs $40 and the person who administers it has to have a bachelor's degree, or have a teacher's license or be a full time teacher in a public or private school (not homeschool). It is no problemo for me since I do have a bachelor's degree but I had no idea of the extra expense some homeschool parents have just to homeschool. The cost of curriculum is high enough all by itself. On top of that you have to buy the tests and pay someone to test them. I understand the concept behind it - the…

Has anyone used either of these? If so, what are your thoughts. If I have to use one more year of Bob Jones boring history I think I'll scream, not to mention my kids! LOL

Is anyone or has anyone here homeschooled their high school age children? Our oldest will be ready for high school this year and I've been looking at many different ideas and options. I've not yet decided which route we will take but it's nearing the time I'll be narrowing things down and going through the process of elimination as I work to make the final decision. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, links, websites, pointers or whatever would be greatly appreciated. He's not college bound and he may decide to join the military, so he doesn't need or want college prep.

What are the writing requirements with regards to Abeka high school? Some programs require an extensive amount of writing: essays, reports, research papers and such while other programs require little to no extensive writing assignments. From looking over their website I can't really determine how much writing papers factors into their program. For the work that must be turned into Abeka for grading, what type of work is most commonly required to be turned in? I would like to learn as much as possible about Abeka high school now that I've moved it up to my potential category.

http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/mar/08030503.html This is a serious threat to our rights as parents. A lot of the lunacy that is enacted nationwide has its origins in California. Why is it that it seems only homeschooled children report "physical and emotional mistreatment by the children's father"? Check out the attached list of "PUBLIC" school shootings in the past decade. How come no court ever says that we need to outlaw Public School as it is obviously unsafe for our children? Jonesboro massacre Jonesboro, Arkansas March 24, 1998 Parker Middle School Shooting …

The baby is officially a toddler now in her behaviour. So, when we start school, our "little pet" cannot understand why the siblings aren't playing with her. We have plenty for her to do, but she wants THEM. :cool So, she fusses and complains all morning while we are doing school. I need some seasoned homeschool tips or tricks to help her. My son requires my full attention until he is done, which is about 2 1/2 hours. The girls could take turns with the baby, but they won't get done what they need to, unless I can somehow rearrange their schedule and still get their schooling done.

Aerodynamics Experiments to Share with Your Kids By Aurora Lipper, Supercharged Science This article teaches kids about aeronautics and gives a handful of totally fun activities to experiment with for their homeschool science learning (including helicopters, parachutes, and other flying machines). It?s also good for boy scouts working on a badge, or for any kids that love science experiments. These experiments are part of a homeschool science program that I teach, and I promise your kids will love it. Every flying thing, whether it's an airplane, spacecraft, soccer ball, or flying kid, experiences four aerodynamic primary forces: lift, weight, thrust and drag. A…

I need some answers about some things and can't quite find them. if homeschooled is it better to go with accredited or non and if you mix and match Curriculum can it be accredited? After school is finished through highschool are they considered highschool grads by the state or is there something you have to do? I have a child in 6th grade next year and on that will go into 4th any help will be appreciated, we have pretty much decided to let them finish out this year and then start home school next year, just a little nervous and ignorant about the whole thing. I'm shure i have more questions I just can't think of them right know.

I'm seriously considering using the DVD program next year for all of my kids. However, the only option for writing in Kindergarten is cursive. Does anyone know if they ever teach manuscript to the children? Additionally, my daughter will be in 1st grade next year. I taught her manuscript this year but the DVD program for next yera is cursive. Is she going to have a problem?

The word "LASER" stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A laser is an optical light source that emits a concentrated beam of photons. Lasers are usually monochromatic ? the light that shoots out is usually one wavelength and color, and is in a narrow beam. By contrast, light from a regular incandescent light bulb covers the entire spectrum as well as scatters all over the room. (Which is good, because could you light up a room with a narrow beam of light?) There are about a hundred different types of atoms in the entire universe, and they are always vibrating, moving, and rotating. Think of kids on sugar. When you add energy to these a…
