Hi everyone. I have a question for you. Why is the KJV superior to modern Bibles translations? Could you please sum up the reasons for me? Thanks! P.S. I know that I used to be on this board a lot and that I have been a KJV Onlyist before but I have gotten away from that theology and am seeking the truth. So if you all could please help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

We all are well aware that on May 5th 2011 the KJV1611 turns 400 years old. The purpose of this thread is to see if we can come up with 1611 reasons why we love the KJV. Rules are: 1) Members can post as many times as they like, but only one "reason" per post. 2) No other posts in this thread but reasons why you love the KJV. Start a new topic for discussions. 3) We need to come up with 1,611 reasons before May 5th 2011.

I teach a children's class on Wednesday night. Formerly, I would give the kids points for various things like bringing their Bible, bringing a vistor, etc. I stopped doing this eventually, though, because it seemed that each kid brought a different Bible version and when we would read it would be so confusing. I hate to not encourage them to bring their Bible, but what do you do? Many of these kids and their parents don't know to look for a KJV when they buy a Bible.

I’ve been told that the Bible never promises sinners eternal life. If this is true, how can the Bible promise sinners eternal punishment with physical torment? If someone isn’t alive somehow, how can be conscious of their torment? And if a sinner suffering eternal punishment isn’t conscious of their torment, what purpose would their torment serve? Isn’t the idea of eternal torment for the wicked a means of seeking revenge on the wicked- who wouldn’t want an Adolf Hitler to roast in eternal hellfire- meaning that people that rely on eternal hellfire don’t really want to forgive their enemies as God commands them to do? And how can God command His faithful to forgive t…

Did Jesus go to hell? What or who are the "spirits" mentioned in 1 Peter 3: 18-20? Are they fallen angels or the spirits of those of Noah's day? What exactly did Christ preach to them and for what purpose?

Matthew 28:1-10 says that when Mary Magdalene went to the tomb that she was told by an angel that the Messiah had risen and would be seen in Galilee. Matthew then says that she ran "with great joy" to tell the disciples and while on the way that she met the Messiah (this occurred before she got to the disciples). However, John 20:1 and 2 say that when she came to the tomb and didn’t find the Messiah there, that she ran to the disciples and told them that He had been taken away and that she didn’t know where He was. In Matthew she knew where He was (or at least had been) and where He would be, but in John she didn’t. Also, Matthew has Mary encountering the Messiah…

This verse from Psalm 46 is one of my favorites: "Be still, and know that I am God". For the believer it is healthy and wholesome to contemplate quietly the greatness and sovereignty of our majestic and gracious God. City dwellers I think face a special challenge to be able to get away from the constant bustle and rush, and spend time in prayer with their Bibles and remember and contemplate the greatness of God, and His holiness, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ. It's one of my favorite texts, anyway. Blessings.

On another thread there is something about someone having heard questionable ministry from the Song of Solomon. I guess there are aspects of the book which can be a bit tricky, especially for someone with a ripe imagination. I thought I would refer to something that can make a good study in the Song of Solomon. Chapter 1.3 speaks of the beloved being addressed in this way: 'Thy name is as ointment poured forth'. This can link in with the alabaster box of ointment in the New Testament, the savor of which filled the house where the Lord Jesus was. Also, with the sacrifice of praise, even the fruit of our lips, giving thanks unto His name. For those who are rightly…

When talking about the Bible, it seems that a spirit of thankfulness and humility are very desirable among those who profess to have been changed by its message of redemption through the precious blood of the Lord Jesus. I love and use the King James, yet it can be usefully remembered that there are born again believers in Quebec and Mexico and elsewhere who don't use the King James, but believe pretty much what we would generally believe. Indeed, they use French and Spanish Bibles. English, French and Spanish are world languages spoken by hundreds of millions of people and there are sound Bible versions in these various languages with their own separate histories, under…

What do you think of the "four corners" excuse by non-Christians to dispute God's omniscience? Many from the non-believer’s side use the verse from Isaiah to say the Bible is infallible. They say men, were not inspired to write the Bible by God because Isaiah used science’s “world view of the day” of a flat “cornered” earth. They say, “An all knowing God would know the world was not flat so, there must be no God.” Isaiah 11:12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

Did your church do anything special to celebrate the 400th birthday of the KJV? I've heard of a few churches that did, and I was wondering if your church did anything to honor the day.

Being "jealous for the LORD" was it a good thing or a bad thing? 1 Kings 19:10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. 1 Kings 19:14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

Over the past few weeks I've heard several pastors and ministries talking about the "400th anniversary of the English Bible". I know this year is the 400th anniversary of the KJB and I also know there were English translations of the Bible prior to 1611. What reason would Christian pastors and ministries have in celebrating the "400th anniversary of the English Bible", which is actually a lie, rather than celebrating the truth that it is the 400th anniversary of a specific Bible, the KJB? I was reminded of this again yesterday when my wife forgot to shut her radio off in the kitchen. Before I cut it off I heard them talking about the "400th anniversary of the Eng…

From another thread: Much of Scripture, including prophecy & the prophetic Psalms, is given in the form of poetry. Should we expect a literal fulfilment? Does the poetry of Joel 2, quoted by Peter at Pentecost, require literal fulfilment to be fulfilled by the events of Pentecost?

We (ME) have voiced concerns over free trade and global trade agreements. I wonder if the Bible speaks for or against trading among the world's nations. Anyone recall scripture which might help form an answer?

Can divorced or remarried CHRISTIAN men become evangelists and/or missionaries? Do the words below apply to divorced CHRISTIAN men and CHRISTIAN men who marry divorced women? Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the …

The Old Testament refers to “gentiles” 30 times. The first reference is in Genesis 10:5 and the last reference is in Malachi 1:11. Of these 30 times gentiles are referred to in Isaiah 15 times. There is a lot of information we can gather about we gentiles from the O.T. What exactly does Isaiah 61:9 mean by “And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed.” Maybe the redeemed Jews and Gentiles? I have not consulted any commentary yet.

I can't post on the IFB forum so I'll post a new topic. The Blue Letter Bible has Strong's numbering for every word in the Bible. Links show every use of a given word, & how it is translated. the definitions are given, together with the usage, so we do not have to rely on dictionary definitions. e.g. Hbr 2:10 For it became him, for whom [are] all things, and by whom [are] all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. ¶ For 1063 it became 4241 him 846, for 1223 whom 3739 [are] all things 3956, and 2532 by 1223 whom 3739 [are] all things 3956, in bringing 71 many 4183 sons 5207 unto 1519 glor…

I'm not special enough to post to the "real" KJB board, so that is the reason I posted here. I won't be allowed to answer once it gets moved, but maybe someone can answer this in a way I won't have to ask more questions. I ran into another stumper of a question in my diligent search for the truth about the Bible version issue. The problem is what to do with the "copyist errors"? I was looking through Sword Searcher Program that I got from WayofLife.org when I accidentally found several references to such copyist errors found in the old testament in the Keil and Delitzsch Old Testament Commentary. I ran a simple search in this commentary using just the word "error" …
