I put "convenient" because none of them really applied to me.

I think more than anything, they are a safety feature as many mentioned. The only reason I like mine is when I am out and about, if something should happen I like knowing I can call my husband. Or, like if we split up and go to two different stores, or do two different errands, we can do the timing alot better. We dumped my cell phone but then when I got my p/t job (2x week) we had to get one for me again so if something came up when I'm at work, I can be reached.

It makes me mad to spend so much money on communication (two cell phones, a land line that uses Vonage along with our internet service... that adds up to more than I like to pay just to communicate!) but I guess there's really not a way to get out of it, especially with dh a pastor and having to be accessible to others.

I have no problem with people driving while talking on their cell phones as long as they're not holding them. I mean, people, please! There are wireless headsets available everywhere, and they're not that expensive. Some people are just careless and lazy.

Okay, rant over.

I have no use for cell phones (I am deaf). I seem to survive without one alright so far and I am 29 years old.

Yes, cell phones can be a curse when it come to driving, but so can children when you trying to get them to behave or they want something. A local where I live lost her son, and almost lost her daughter because the grandmother who happen to be the driving turned her head around to help her grandson with something and she accidently skid off the road and hit another driver. The grandmother died as well.

Rule of thumb..if you trying to do something that will cause your eye off the road, pull over or wait til you get to a stop sign or stop light. But of course talking on the phone can cause distraction but so does listening or singing along with music. I don't know who told me this, but someone told me that he had a favorite hymn song that was had somewhat a fast pace, speed mood to it (even the lyrics) , and he ended up with a traffic ticket for speeding way above speed limit without realizing that he was speeding

sounds like you have very good filter (or filter is set high).

My free filter from http://www.k9webprotection.com/ block any graphics from imageshack.us or photo bucket.com I usually have to unblock those sites to see the pictures on the forum. (in my filtration's case, I have to type down the website, and it would automatically ask me if I want to temporary see the website for 15 minutes or permanent)

I have a cell phone that I found on the side of the road, that someone ditched, but it doesn't have service, and as far as it goes, it never will have service.

I use it as a mini computer.
But as far as my opinion goes,
There is more wrong in cell phones to worth having one.
To many deaths to claim it right.
The old timers never had cell phones, and when an accicdent came, they walked to the nearest phone booth, or flagged down the next driver.

We need to learn to use our resouces wisely,
because cell phones are not a benifit, but a hazzard.

(This is just my opinion, so don't go flaming me for it....)

Regards,

Old timers didn't have cars, airplanes, electricty, telephones, pencillin, polo vaccine, and a host of other things either. We can live without cell phones.

How many lives have been saved because of cell phones ?

We each have our opinion, I disagree with yours on this topic.

I believe cell phones are very convenient and monthly bills for them are cheaper. I do feel that anyone using a cell phone while driving should be ticketed. They should pull over and stop elsewhere for I have seen quite a few wrecks from a cell phone being used while on the highway /expressway and so forth.I do not have a cell phone but a track phone and I never use it or answer it except when I pull off to the side. :)

I always have my cell phone. I have it in church.. ALWAYS off and in my purse. I turn it on immediately after service- surprise, surprise.
I must say I can't stand for someone's phone to ring during church. haha.. believe it or not, our Pastor's phone rang during church one day. It was on vibrate, but he had it on the pulpit and it was loud. He just threw it on the choir pew behind him. It repeatedly vibrated on the pew, but could not be heard but to those of us sitting on the front row. Another time, we were having a revival and a visitor's cell phone rang.. you'll never believe me, but his ringtone was "Hell's Bells". I didn't know what to think!

I've thought about getting a cell phone but haven't yet. Maybe one of these days. The only reason I consider it is for emergencies on the road. For the most part, I just don't think it would be worth the money I'd spend for the amount of time I'd use it. My sister recently visited me from out of state, and she just got a trac phone. I may get one of those before I go on another long trip. But I've been driving back and forth from CT to Maine, and now NY to ME for over 25 yrs, now, and have managed without one. The worse that ever has happened to me was running out of gas. One time I ran out a few miles out side of Elsworth, ME, and had to walk for a half hour to the nearest open gas station, after midnight. Another time, also late at night I was about an hours drive from home on the highway, and I put my hood up and sat in the car and waited for a trooper to come by and help me. He drove me to the nearest gas station and brought me back with the gas. I know people who have replaced their land line with a cell. I don't know how it can be less exspensive, guess it depends on your phone habits, calling plan, and phone company. It would not be cheaper for me.

I started to check the one, Since when did inmates get phones.

Isn't that what a cell phone is?

I put this in our last church bulletin.

The warden was about to celebrate his 25th year as being warden so he asked all the prisoners what kind of party should he have to celebrate his anniversary. All prisoners were in agreement, the warden should have an open house party.

I'm so surprised, I'm in the majority on this. I figured I would be on of few who did not have a cell phone. I have no cell phone. I have seen many wonderful uses for cell phones. But it makes me sick at the number of people that walk around with a cell phone glued to their ear.

And do not think that cell phones are private. I've got a scanner that will pick up cell phones. In fact a long time back they were many people around our community that thought a Baptist pastors was having an affair. But he wasn't, his wife was. I heard his wife talking to her boyfriend many times. It was amazing the conversations her and the song leader would have. They did not leave nothing to your imagination.

No, since them I have those frequencies shut off. I don't want to have to deal with knowing something such as that anymore.
