Hi everyone. Can you all please help me understand why the King James Version is the perfect Bible version in English? I would really appreciate your help as I don't understand the issue.

Hi BG2,

In a nutshell:::

#1. It uses the right and proper text (the TR and the Masoretic texts)

#2. There are no mistakes or errors in the KJV. There have been "scholars" who seem to be educated beyond their intellect that claim to find errors in the KJV but the error is only in their lack of understanding.

#3. It is a faithful translation from the text (i.e. word for word). This is completely unlike other translations that might claim to use the TR but are not faithful to it. E.G. The NKJV claims to use the TR but leaves out 20,666 words.

There are many other criteria as well.

Consider also that it was when the English language was at its peak of power and expressiveness ((((it has never been so before or since)))) that God had the preserved texts translated into English.

Unlike most modern versions, the KJV is translated from accurate and reliable source texts. Most versions today are translated from corrupted Alexandrian texts so are not error free.

God gave and will preserve His words.
2nd Timothy 3:16 tells us that ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God, and Proverbs 30:5 says that every word of God is pure. We are also told in Psalm 12:7, Psalm 100:5, Psalm 117:2, Matthew 5:18, and Matthew 24:35 that Gods word will endure forever. Since God's words will endure, we need to find the right one.

A literal translation is required (formal equivalency, not dynamic equivalency).

Very true, Randy. :thumb

It was also in Egypt that Abraham got that Hagar women from which came Ishmael, who is the father of the Arab nation. The Jews and the Arabs have been at odds with each other ever since.

Very interesting. What are some other criteria for determining that the KJV is best?

The source documents used are the MOST important, and biggest issue. All other reasons are really secondary, but I'll give you a few.

The King James (and a few other older English translations) are accurate in their translation of the different word forms, which are not found in modern English. The simplest of these is the difference between the 'Thou' and 'You'. In current English, we only have 'you', and it can mean either singular or plural. In the King James, 'Thee' is used for singular, and 'Ye' for plural - the rule is that if it starts with T, then it is singular, if it starts with Y, then it is plural. This distinction can lead to VERY different meanings in the text.

Also, look at the fruit of the Bible - the King James has been THE bible of most (and I'm being generous, assuming that there may have been one) great revivals.

You can also find tons of verse comparisons, about which versions include or exclude different verses, or translate things differently. These types of comparisons are useful, but really not accurate, as the source documents that they translate from differ. A verse comparison chart was what first caused me to start looking into it, as the different Bibles really do say different things.

If you dig into this more, you will also find tons of information, some of which may even be accurate, about the various people involved in the different translations or compilations of Greek text. I tend to ignore all of these because it really has no bearing, since man's righteousness is at best 'filthy rags'.

Ah okay thank you. This is very helpful for me. The underlying text issue alone is enough to make me think twice about this and I am definitely leaning towards King James Onlyism. Thank you!

This is very good, Holly. :lol

By all means, stay close to your KJV (i.e. read it and obey it for all you're worth) and God will bless you beyond your wildest dreams. :ears:

Really? Well, that's pretty awesome! I could use all the blessings I could get!

I agree. I'm in the very same boat. I want all the blessings from the LORD that are available. I've learned long ago that in order for something to work right, it has to be done the right way. Living the Christian life and bringing Glory to God is just like that. It is for this very reason that I get more and more KJV-only every year.

I'm not with the rest on this board who believe in onlyism, but I can tell you from my point why (in no particular order) I prefer the KJV:

1) Much effort was put into accurately translating the best available texts in the 1600s with as little bias as possible.

2) It is the most familiar and most often quoted format, and for me, it's the easiest to memorize.

3) I grew up on it, so I'm comfortable with its style and readability.

4) It has an awesome history behind it that even its critics can appreciate.

5) The copyright is not enforced here in the US, making it's reproduction easy and its price inexpensive.

If, regardless of the above, you have found an accurate and trustworthy translation that you feel comfortable reading, I can do nothing but encourage you to go with that instead! But for me, it's the KJV.
