Another businessman in town, a Badcock store owner, said it cost him $38,000 to replace the roof on his store. Ouch!

The roof on my house is about 23 squares. I have roofed the house myself, twice; the first time with 3-tab shingles and the second time with architectural ones. If I am still able, I believe I will be re-roofing it again when the time comes. The only thing I hate is roofing around those dormers and the chimney. The rest is much simpler and quicker. For the last time I bought a Bostitch roofing nailer and that saved a lot of time.

I also got a quote to replace my composite roof here in Northern California. It was quite a shock, $13,000.00 Mine is a very modest two bedroom.Ā

I would think prices would be higher in California...but wow!

Our house isn't that big either. You can see the white/gray areas on the shingles where the grit is coming off. It hasn't started leaking yet...the back side of the house is really steep and two stories high. It would be a long and hard fall if I tried to do it and slipped!

Nice house! Next time I re-roof, I'll have a metal roof contractor.

Thanks. We considered...well...I considered a metal roof. My wife is afraid it wouldn't look right on our house, and since we're wanting to sell our house in the not-too-distant future...I guess our safe choiceĀ is to go with shingles.

Roof contractor #2 will come tomorrow to give a quote...

Yeah by the looks of that dormer yours is at least a 12/12 pitch. I wouldn't get up there either. Mine is only 6/12 and it's almost too steep for me to stand on. These are my digs, with the "architectural"; shingles; they last longer than the "three tab" ones.......

Whew! That looks like a lot of work for one man roofing it himself!

Can't really see the roof, but that roofing on the bay window looks great!Ā

Thanks, I never went back and put the piece on the top corner of those. At the top, you can't just Ā put roofing tacks because they will be exposed and leak. You have to 'glue' them down with roofing cement (tar) and I never got a round tuit..... I also should have tapered them from bottom to top.Ā

Oh dear...I just realized something...

Several months ago, the heat and air system where I work had to be replaced. About a month later, we had to replace our H&AĀ at home.

Also several months ago, we had to have the roof replaced where I work ($78,000). Now, we need a new one at our home.

Hmmm...I'm starting to see a trend here, and I'm not liking it! PerhapsĀ I need to find another job? Ā :15_1_63:
