How many of ya have ever talked over matters of worship with any AMISH? Do ya believe they're some sorta "super-Christians: called for special service to GOD? Well, nothing could be further from the TRUTH!

The Amish are as much of a CULT as the JWs, LDS. or any other quasi/pseudo-Christian group you can think of!

Why?

Let's start with their basic view of SALVATION, that most-basic item of Christianity.

No "Old Order" Amish believes in certainty of salvation while in this life! They believe that after their deaths God weighs all their obedience to the church, and only then decides upon salvation or damnation for each individual. it is a belief in PURE SALVATION BY WORX!

Evidently, they don't believe-"Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition." ?Mark 7:7-9, KJV

Or:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." ?Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV

Or:

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." ?Romans 10:13, KJV

The Amish also believe the false doctrine of REGENERATIONAL BAPTISM, that part of the good worx they must do is be baptized, or nothing else will matter. Guess they don't believe that JESUS saved the repentant thief on the cross, who couldn't possibly be baptized.

Now, did JESUS ever tell anyone to get baptized when he saved them? NEWP! He said, "Go & sin no more."

They also believe certain GERMAN-LANGUAGE Bible versions are the ONLY valid ones! They're worse than the KJVOs!

Here's s'more verses which apparently they don't believe:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." ?Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV

"For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers."-Matthew 23:4, KJV

Yes, like many other cults, the Amish are a whitewashed tomb.

As far as I know, the Amish people were Germans who immigrated to America a long time ago. There are no Amish people living in Germany. Maybe that is why they use a German bible version. I also think that only the Amish people printed a bible were on the one side the German version and on the other side the KJV is. All other bibles with both languages have the New KJV or an other version.

I am not a mod but it seems that your post here is pretty disrepectful knowing where this boards stand on that issue. Have some respect.

3) Feel free to quote the Bible, if you do we ask that you use the KJV. This is done to avoid confusion.

The Administrators and Moderators of this site believe that the KJV is Gods preserved Word for the English speaking people, and we ask that you respect that and use the KJV when quoting scripture.

This board is owned and operated by Independent, Fundamental, KJV Baptist believers. We are not interested in arguing or debating. This board is set up for IFB to fellowship and uplift our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is not a ministry and he is not a minister because to minister is to meet the need of someone and I don't know about the rest of you but I need to be lifted up not made mad.
As for your snide comment about the Amish, If you talk to them...and I have talked to quite a few...They don't even think that they are "Super-Christians" so I don't know where you got that idea. And obviously they would use a German translation seeing that they are German in heritage.
You also only gave one teaching that would classify them as a cult and as a general rule they have two or three before they are actually considered a cult.

While I can appreciate the fact that they live generally moral lives and are nice people that doesn't do them a lot of good if they think they are earning there way to heaven. They are false teachers in some critical areas. I know it is tempting to stick up for them because they are often attacked for some of the same reasons IFB's are attacked, but sympathy with those aspects should not be allowed to cloud the seriousness of their doctrinal errors.

You don't understand, this man known as robycop3 and sometimes as steelmaker does really consider it his ministry to troll the internet finding every bible believing site he can to bash the KJV. Another one is a man named Rick Norris who goes by the handle of logos1583. This is all they do. Occasionally, robycop will take a shot at the doctrine of eternal security or some denomination he considers a cult. Which is just about everyone but himself. He even considers most of us in here as belonging to a KJVO cult. He has bashed the Amish on another site I use to moderate. This man is nothing but a liar and deceiver and this is why I warned about him when he first introduced himself. He likes to slip in among the brethern claiming he is IFB but he is nothing of the sort. Then all he does is sow division and hard feelings yet for some reason the brethern continure to tolerate him at the cost of Christians who really do contribute something to a forum.

Witchblah's prattling aside,(He lovesta focus on ME rather than the issues.) let's stick to the SUBJECT of this thread-the Amish.

I know no one has said they're "super-christians" here, but when they came into the headlines cuz some nut murdered some of their children, I DID see that term used more than once on the net & in the news. And many Baptists who don't live near any of them know little about them. Since this forum is about false religions, I thought I'd shed a little light on them, since I DO live near some of'em & know a good deal about them.

This is the USA, not Germany. The national tongue is ENGLISH. if they're gonna LIVE here, they oughtta learn the LANGUAGE! And they came from SWITZERLAND, not Germany. (However, German is one of Switzerland's official tongues.) They refer to all non-Amish as "English". This seems insulting to the majority of Americans who are of English descent.

Their lives are governed more by their ordnung(rules of living, worship, ceremony) rather than by the Bible. They CLAIM to believe the Bible literally, but they really hedge when asked "in that case, why don'tcha believe JESUS can save a person RIGHT NOW?" They say it's PRIDEFUL to claim one is saved in this life! (Never mind that the BIBLE sez differently in many places!) They also say it's prideful for one to claim a personal relationship with Christ.

In summary, they're just another cult that's subbed the rules, rites, & traditions of certain men for the words & commands of GOD.

:uuhm: I don't think either one of you is being very nice. I personally, find namecalling on here very offensive. If what you wrote above is a typo........you should definitely edit it.

I don't want to argue. But I read the article again about the Amish background and it says they came from south west Germany and Switzerland. Those countries are right beside each other. It is true. If you go to an other country you should learn the language but I don't think it is bad to also keep the own language.
If you don't use the verses of the bible as they are, it is wrong in any language you read them.

You can cry and moan about my nasty name calling but this heretic will destroy this website as he has done to others.

I was aiming my comment primarily at HIS name calling of YOU which was highlighted in red in the above quote. When I said that I did not think that either one of you was being very nice, (meaning you as well) I was referring only to your comment of him:
....This man is nothing but a liar....

I have repeatedly found robycops comments offensive, and his atrocious spelling habits, quite annoying. To be sure, if it has been substantiated that this man is the devisive heretic that you call him, I would imagine that the information would be handled by the mods/admin. in a quiet manner and the matter dealt with decisively. (I, personally, would have given him the boot long ago) I'm just trying to keep in mind that some people will come to OB and will view all IFB's by what they see here....including any namecalling that goes on.
