I believe their diet was highly favorable to the production of copious amounts of methane.

 

Oh, and by the way, all those mammoths that CPETM (see #3) saved were big methane producers too.

There is actually a pine somewhere in the Northwest which must have a forest forest fire to open it's cones so it can reproduce.
